Horizons de justice de l'école, en France et aux États-Unis

Social inequalities of educational careers are stronger in France than in the US, while most of the other indicators of equity are roughly equal. This can be related to the existence of paths in the French educational system, which do not exist in the more comprehensive american systems. More deeply, it can be related to the fact that equity in the US is conceived as fairness of the process of empowerment of students while it is conceived in France as the independence of the educational merit with the social capital.

“I Like to Keep my Archaeology Dead”. Alienation and Othering of the Past as an Ethical Problem

As archaeologists, we have to deal with the dead, and as David Clarke once said, we like to keep our archaeology dead. From an epistemological perspective, alienation from the dead seems almost inevitable; otherwise, we would only project today’s conditions onto the past. Therefore, the past must be, and must remain, a foreign country. These alienating processes have ethical implications, however, especially when it comes to the study of human remains. In this article, we analyze the structures within the scientific discipline of archaeology that normalize practices, such as the labeling of human bone material during excavations and the object-like display of skeletons in museums. Les Sciences de l’Information et de la Communication constituent un terrain d’observation privilégié du débat épistémologique opposant la recherche dite fondamentale à la recherche dite appliquée. Cette opposition produit systématiquement un déclassement qualitatif de la seconde au profit de la première. Nous souhaitons ici discuter de la pertinence même du débat ainsi que de ce déclassement qui en est la conséquence. La question est alors double : nos travaux s’inscrivent-il dans la recherche dite « appliquée » ?
