Solid state structural studies of five bile acid derivatives

Five synthetically important bile acid derivatives have been characterized by 13 C CP-MAS, X-ray diffraction (both single crystal and powder), FTIR, and thermoanalytical (DSC and TG) methods. The crystallinity of all these derivatives is high, which can be deducted from the 13 C CP-MAS and powder X-ray diffraction data. Two of the compounds showed polymorphism, and one polymorph was structurally elucidated for both by comparing single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction data.

Phytochromes are photosensor proteins in plants and bacteria. The biological response is mediated by structural changes that follow photon absorption in the protein complex. The initial step is the photoisomerization of the biliverdin chromophore. How this leads to large-scale structural changes of the whole complex is, however, poorly understood. We report the Soret absorption spectra (500-350 nm) of the cyanomet derivatives of human hemoglobin and horse myoglobin, in the temperature range 300-20 K and in two different solvents (65% v/v glycerol-water or 65% v/v ethylene glycol-water). Diorganotin(IV) N-acetyl-L-cysteinate complexes: synthesis, solid state, solution phase, DFT and biological investigations.

Diorganotin(IV) complexes of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (H(2)NAC; (R)-2-acetamido-3-sulfanylpropanoic acid) have been synthesized and their solid and solution-phase structural configurations investigated by FTIR, Mössbauer, (1)H, (13)C and (119)Sn NMR spectroscopy. FTIR results suggested that in R(2)Sn(IV)NAC (R = Me, Bu, Ph) complexes NAC(2-) behaves as dianionic tridentate ligand coordinating the tin(IV) atom, through ester-type carboxylate, acetate carbonyl oxygen atom and the deprotonated thiolate group. Pyrene derived functionalized low molecular weight organic gelators and gels

Pyrene derived binary functionalized low molecular weight organic gelators (FLMOGs) and gels thereof in selected organic solvents were synthesized and characterized. The functionality refers to a functional group that does not take part in formation of the supramolecular gel network, but remains free and available for other purposes, such as to bind nanoparticles or other molecules into the gel structure. Functional groups were observed to disturb gel formation strongly, if they interact with each other within the same supramolecule due to the formation of competitive structures. Comparative investigation of the macromolecular composition of mycelia forms Thielavia terrestris by infrared spectroscopy

Using analytical and infrared spectroscopic methods, the differences between the composition of diffuse and pellet forms of mycelium of the ascomycete Thielavia terrestris were described. Quantitative estimates of the amounts of protein, nucleic acids and carbohydrates in T. terrestris showed a predominance of catabolic processes in the metabolism of the pelleted form, in comparison to the diffused form.
Analysis of the structural quality of the CASD-NMR 2013 entries

We performed a comprehensive structure validation of both automated and manually generated structures of the 10 targets of the CASD-NMR-2013 effort. We established that automated structure determination protocols are capable of reliably producing structures of comparable accuracy and quality to those generated by a skilled researcher, at least for small, single domain proteins such as the ten targets tested. The most robust results appear to be obtained when NOESY peak lists are used either as the primary input data or to augment chemical shift data without the need to manually filter such lists.
