Background Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating event often leading to poor neurologic outcomes. One of the most widely practiced treatments has been the administration of methylprednisolone. However, today its use has been called into question over concerns of efficacy and safety. The present study evaluated the changes in the practice of steroid administration in acute SCI among members of the National Spinal Society in Poland in comparison with the results of the survey conducted in 2013. Strength training and stretching versus stretching only in the treatment of patients with chronic neck pain: a randomized one-year follow-up study

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of a 12-month home-based combined strength training and stretching programme against stretching alone in the treatment of chronic neck pain. Design: A randomized follow-up study. Participants: One hundred and one patients with chronic non-specific neck pain were randomized in two groups. Fatty replacement of bone marrow after radiation therapy for Hodgkin disease: Quantification with chemical shift imaging

The authors studied the long-term fatty replacement of bone marrow in 23 patients who had received radiation therapy for Hodgkin disease, with T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and quantitative chemical shift imaging. T1-weighted images revealed a mostly homogeneous high-signal-intensity pattern, in contrast to the hypointense pattern of nonirradiated marrow. The degree of fatty replacement was objectively assessed with chemical shift imaging, comparing patients to age-matched healthy volunteers. Ossified spinal meningiomas: Clinical and surgical features

Abstract Object Meningiomas constitute 25% of primary spinal tumors and predominantly involve the thoracic spinal cord. Although calcifications are commonly seen in intracranial meningiomas, gross calcifications are observed in only 1–5% of all spinal meningiomas. We report the clinical findings, surgical strategy and histological features of 9 patients with ossified spinal meningiomas (OSMs). Alternative treatments of breakthrough pain in patients receiving spinal analgesics for cancer pain.

Patients who experience a poor response to different systemic opioid trials (oral and intravenous) are candidates for spinal treatment. Breakthrough pain occurring in this group of patients is challenging for physicians. This phenomenon has never been described in this context and the treatment is quite difficult, as patients already demonstrated a poor response to systemic opioids. Mineral mass, size, and estimated mechanical strength of triple jumpers’ lower limb

This study was designed to examine the anticipated strong influence of extreme impact loading on the mineral mass, size, and gross structural properties of triple jumpers' lower limb bones. We compared the bone data obtained with peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) from 8 Finnish triple jumpers with corresponding data from gender-, age-, height-, and weight-matched nonathletic peers. In gliomas one can observe distinct histopathological tissue properties, such as viable tumor cells, necrotic tissue or regions where the tumor infiltrates normal brain.
