A family of higher-order single layer plate models meeting Cz0-requirements for arbitrary laminates

Abstract In the framework of displacement-based equivalent single layer (ESL) plate theories for laminates, this paper presents a generic and automatic method to extend a basis higher-order shear deformation theory (polynomial, trigonometric, hyperbolic…) to a multilayer C z 0 higher-order shear deformation theory. The key idea is to enhance the description of the cross-sectional warping: the odd high-order C z 1 function of the basis model is replaced by one odd and one even high-order function and including the characteristic zig-zag behaviour by means of piecewise linear functions. Contribution of Taq polymerase-induced errors to the estimation of RNA virus diversity.

The genetic diversity of a vesicular stomatitis virus population was analysed by RT-PCR, cloning and sequencing of two approximately 500 nucleotide regions of the virus genome. PCR amplifications were performed in parallel experiments with both Taq and Pfu DNA polymerases, and important differences were observed. Between 10 and 22 mutations were detected when virus populations were analysed by Taq amplification (20 clones from each region), whereas amplification of the same samples with Pfu revealed between 0 and 5 mutations. Abstract Within the European Fusion Technology Programme, very intense research activities have been promoted on the Helium-Cooled Lithium Lead (HCLL) breeding blanket concept with the specific aim of manufacturing a Test Blanket Module (TBM) to be irradiated in ITER. HCLL-TBM is foreseen to be located in an ITER equatorial port, being housed inside a proper steel-supporting frame. A new representation of power spectral density and correlation function by means of fractional spectral moments

In this paper, a new perspective for the representation of both the power spectral density and the correlation function by a unique class of function is introduced. We define the moments of order gamma (gamma being a complex number) of the one sided power spectral density and we call them Fractional Spectral Moments (FSM). These complex quantities remain finite also in the case in which the ordinary spectral moments diverge, and are able to represent the whole Power Spectral Density and the corresponding correlation function.

Abstract One of the main issues in view of the realization of a DEMOnstration fusion reactor is the availability of a sufficient external supply of tritium (T) to start operation. T is an unstable nuclide, which is almost absent in nature and is currently available as by-product in e.g. CANDU, whose operation in the next decades (both in terms of life extension of existing reactors and construction of new ones) is at the moment under debate. AbstractThe use of microhydroelectric plants in urban pipe networks, based on the combination of a pump as turbine (PAT), two regulating valves, and two pressure meters, is proposed along with simple automation rules. Its economic benefit is tested on a small pipe network, where the network geometry as well as the demand coefficient variation in time and space have been inferred from previously collected data and existing analysis. A similar analysis has been also carried out for different scenarios in which the reduction of pipe installation cost due to a diameter reduction is compared with the increased benefit in energy production. Modelling biological and chemically induced precipitation of calcium phosphate in enhanced biological phosphorus removal systems

The biologically induced precipitation processes can be important in wastewater treatment, in particular treating raw wastewater with high calcium concentration combined with Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal. Currently, there is little information and experience in modelling jointly biological and chemical processes. This paper presents a calcium phosphate precipitation model and its inclusion in the Activated Sludge Model No 2d (ASM2d). The proposed precipitation model considers that aqueous phase reactions quickly achieve the chemical equilibrium and that aqueous-solid change is kinetically governed.
