An Examination of Tourist Arrivals Dynamics Using Short-Term Time Series Data: A Space—Time Cluster Approach

The purpose of this study is to examine the development of Italian tourist areas ( circoscrizioni turistiche) through a cluster analysis of short time series. The technique is an adaptation of the functional data analysis approach developed by Abraham et al (2003), which combines spline interpolation with k-means clustering. The findings indicate the presence of two patterns (increasing and stable) averagely characterizing groups of territories. Moreover, tests of spatial contiguity suggest the presence of ‘space–time clusters’; that is, areas in the same ‘time cluster’ are also spatially contiguous. Darba mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai maldinoša laika reprezentācija, ietekmē sāpju intensitātes uztveri. Darba hipotēze bija, vai manipulējot ar subjektīvā laika uztveri jeb rādot maldinošu laika reprezentāciju, samazināsies sāpju intensitāte. Pirmās eksperimentālās grupas rādītāji ir M = 5,15, SD = 1,24, šie rādītāji salīdzinājumā ar otro eksperimentālo grupu ir augstāki M = 4,18, SD = 1,19, darba hipotēze tika apstiprināta. Kopā pētījumā bija 58 dalībnieki, 35 vīrieši, vecums M = 22,40, SD = 2,49 un 23 sievietes, vecums M = 24,52, SD = 4,11. Crumb Rubber (CR) can be incorporated into asphalt mixes via the dry process by directly adding CR into the mixer together with other asphalt mixture’s components, or with the wet process where the CR is used as a bitumen modifier. While the wet process allows an accurate monitoring of the interaction between CR and bitumen, the lack of control represents a main issue in the dry process. A comparison between two feature selection algorithms

This article provides a comparison of two feature selection algorithms, Information Gain Thresholding and Koller and Sahami's algorithm in the context of text document classification on the Reuters Corpus Volume 1 dataset. The algorithms were evaluated by testing the performance of classifiers trained on the features they select from a given dataset. Results show that Koller and Sahami's algorithm consistently outperforms Information Gain Thresholding by capturing interactions between features and avoiding redundancy among features, although it achieves its gains through increased complexity and longer running time.

H.264 QoS and Application Performance with Different Streaming Protocols

Streaming techniques, including the selected streaming protocol, have an effect on the streaming quality. In this study, the performance of three different streaming protocols in a disturbed communication channel is evaluated with a modified version of the FFPlay player. A H.264 encoded video is used as a test sequence. The number of displayed image frames, the frame rate and playout duration are used as objective metrics for QoS. The metrics brings out differences of streaming protocols in our test environment. They are measured at the application level and have a connection to the user experience. peerReviewed
