Trajectory tracking of underactuated underwater vehicles
2003
This paper deals with a control strategies for underactuated underwater vehicles whose target is the tracking of a space trajectory. A cascade control strategy is employed which brings to a control law consisting of: 1) a kinematic control law, derived from the vehicle kinematic model, which forces this model to track the reference trajectory; and 2) a dynamic control law which forces the system to track the reference signals given by the kinematic control law. Conditions for asymptotic tracking of the trajectory are given with reference to the standard dynamical model of the above vehicle. An observer of the marine current is also added in order to process the control law. Simulation tests…
Validation of the group nuclear safety climate questionnaire.
2013
Abstract Introduction Group safety climate is a leading indicator of safety performance in high reliability organizations. Zohar and Luria (2005) developed a Group Safety Climate scale (ZGSC) and found it to have a single factor. Method The ZGSC scale was used as a basis in this study with the researchers rewording almost half of the items on this scale, changing the referents from the leader to the group, and trying to validate a two-factor scale. The sample was composed of 566 employees in 50 groups from a Spanish nuclear power plant. Item analysis, reliability, correlations, aggregation indexes and CFA were performed. Results Results revealed that the construct was shared by each unit, a…
Sustainable Transportation Management System for a Fleet of Electric Vehicles
2015
In the last few years, significant efforts have been devoted to developing intelligent and sustainable transportation to address pollution problems and fuel shortages. Transportation agencies in various countries, along with several standardization organizations, have proposed different types of energy sources (such as hydrogen, biodiesel, electric, and hybrid technologies) as alternatives to fossil fuel to achieve a more ecofriendly and sustainable environment. However, to achieve this goal, there are significant challenges that still need to be addressed. We present a survey on sustainable transportation systems that aim to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. We describe the ar…
Forces and flow structures evolution on a car body in a sudden crosswind
2014
A vehicle driver is commonly exposed to strong side air flows, for example when passing through a wind gust. The aerodynamic efforts generated in these situations may induce undesired lateral deviations, which can lead to dramatic effects, if the driver is surprised. In order to simulate a sudden yaw angle change on a moving vehicle, a double wind tunnel facility, adapted from the one of Ryan, Dominy, 2000. Wake Surveys Behind a Passenger Car Subjected to a Transient Cross-wind Gust. SAE Technical Paper No. 2000-01-0874 is developed. Two Windsor car body models, differing from their rear geometry, are analysed. The transient evolution of the side force and yaw moment aerodynamic coefficient…
Eletric vehicles impact using renewable energy
2015
In this moment, the principle topics for the modern world are the reduction of environmental pollution and the production of energy from renewable sources (for example photovoltaic system, wind farm, hydroelectric plants, etc.). This particular attention is determined by different reasons, in particular from the Kyoto Protocol, and from different problems as greenhouse effect, acid rain and climate change. The scope of this work is to study, for different years (1997-2013) in Italy, the production of electric energy from renewable and non-renewable. At a later stage, the attention will be on the consumption of the electric energy divided for different sectors. In particular, we study the po…
An energy and power based approach toward design of power split for urban hybrid vehicle
2011
This work presents a novel method of analyzing real and artificial urban driving cycles with regard to power and energy needs. The results can be used to facilitate the design of the power split between primary and secondary power sources for hybrid vehicles in urban applications. Based on the analysis of different real and artificial driving cycles three key values are defined that allow predefining the size of the primary and secondary power source.
Experimental test on a fuel cell powered brushless synchronous motor for automotive applications
2014
In this paper, a fuel cell powered motor emulator is proposed. The MATLAB/Simulink model including the fuel cell stack, the motor and drive models is described. The Urban Driving Cycle test is performed in MATLAB environment. Effective operating conditions of the whole fuel cell powered motor are accurately emulated according to actual regulations in force. The emulated current profile is used for experimental tests on a 5kW Nuvera PowerFlow stack. Thanks to the proposed approach, the motor and inverter drives are accurately emulated and the provided test-bench is used to evaluate performances of the stack under test for automotive applications. Simulation and experimental results are compa…
Synchronization in Vehicle Routing—A Survey of VRPs with Multiple Synchronization Constraints
2012
This paper presents a survey of vehicle routing problems with multiple synchronization constraints. These problems exhibit, in addition to the usual task covering constraints, further synchronization requirements between the vehicles, concerning spatial, temporal, and load aspects. They constitute an emerging field in vehicle routing research and are becoming a “hot” topic. The contribution of the paper is threefold: (i) It presents a classification of different types of synchronization. (ii) It discusses the central issues related to the exact and heuristic solution of such problems. (iii) It comprehensively reviews pertinent literature with respect to applications as well as successful s…
Synergic algorithms for the planning and the intelligent following of a trajectory for non-holonomic vehicles
2008
Although there are many studies about two wheels non-holonomic vehicles, in order to simplify the problem the planning and the following of trajectories or paths are generally considered two different phases. In this paper, two algorithms for the synergic working of trajectory planning with intelligent trajectory following are presented. The "trajectory shape" characteristics obtained in the planning phase are used for the efficient trajectory following. From the shape, in order to follow the trajectory, an intelligent controller calculates, without further elaboration, the reference wheels velocity of the vehicle. The knowledge of trajectory shape characteristics and curvature constraints …
Implementation of the ERI standard and Evaluation of Applications with several low-cost technologies
2008
The electronic registration and identification (ERI) systems allow carrying out a remote, secure and univocal identification of a vehicle through electronic devices. This paper presents the implementation of the ERI standard (ISO 24534 & 24535) in an API to develop applications. The implementation took into account the different components of the system to build the architecture of the identification system. Several applications have been developed in order to test this API with several low-cost technologies (Wifi, Bluetooth and RFID).
