Cardiac response to Nage no Kata in judo
2021
The first world judo Kata competition was held in October 2007 in Tokyo, Japan. The Nage no Kata was developed in 1884 and 1885 at the Kodokan. by Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo, who developed Kata to demonstrate the principles of judo and to provide a type of training which emphasized performing techniques under controlled setting. According to Kano, to fully develop judo skills, it is essential to involve both Randori and Kata techniques [1]. Most highgrade Japanese judo teachers emphasize the importance of Kata performance for judokas’ development, in particular Nage no Kata [2]. Results of the study conducted by Canestri et al. [3] suggested that session-RPE and HR monitoring is a sim…
Effect of different protective agents on enamel erosion: An in vitro investigation
2019
Background The purpose of this in vitrostudy was to compare the effect of different protective agents on enamel erosion by measuring mean percentage weight loss. Material and Methods Extracted teeth were sectioned into uniform slabs and enamel specimens were randomly distributed to different groups. Initial weight of all enamel specimens was registered. The protective agents used in this study were Tooth Mousse, MI Paste Plus, Remin Pro and Remin Pro Forte. A control group was treated just with tap water. All the specimens were immersed in Coca-Cola for a total of 8 min at room temperature, dried and weighed. Enamel dissolution caused by acidic soft drink was analyzed: specimens were weighe…
Ketogenic diet and phytoextracts. Comparison of the efficacy of Mediterranean, Zone and Tisanoreica diet on some health risk factors
2010
The purpose of this work was to test the efficacy of three kind of different diet on some health risk factors. The primary objective of the present study was to examine the effects of diets, amount of carbohydrate intake and use of phytoextracts on weight loss, body composition and related risk factors and on metabolic values as Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) and Respiratory Ratio (RR).We tested 44 subjects randomly assigned to one of 3 groups of diet: Mediterranean (MED), Zone (ZON) and Tisanoreica® i.e. ketogenic diet plus phytoextracts (TIS). Anthropometry, blood chemistry and urine analysis were performed. After 40 days TIS led to a significant average weight and fat loss compared to …
Transitions in frailty phenotype states and components over 8 years: Evidence from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing
2020
Abstract Aim Fried's frailty phenotype (FP) is defined by exhaustion (EX), unexplained weight loss (WL), weakness (WK), slowness (SL) and low physical activity (LA). Three or more components define the frail state, and one or two the prefrail. We described longitudinal transitions of FP states and components in The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). Methods We included participants aged ≥50 years with FP information at TILDA wave 1 (2010), who were followed-up over four longitudinal waves (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018). Next-wave transition probabilities were estimated with multi-state Markov models. Results 5683 wave 1 participants were included (2612 men and 3071 women; mean age 63.1 y…
Effects of Rapid Weight Loss on Kidney Function in Combat Sport Athletes
2021
Even though scientific literature shows numerous heath complications and performance decrements associated with rapid weight loss (RWL), its prevalence remains exceedingly high across various combat sports. The aim of this study was to thoroughly search the existing literature to explore the influence of RWL on kidney function in Olympic and non-Olympic combat sport athletes. PubMed and Web of Science were searched for the relevant studies. Only original articles published from 2005 onwards, written in English, that included healthy males and females who prompted ~5% weight loss within a week or less, were included in the study. Retrieved studies showed that creatinine, blood urea nitrogen …
Adherence to the Mediterranean Lifestyle and Desired Body Weight Loss in a Mediterranean Adult Population with Overweight: A PREDIMED-Plus Study
2020
Background. Body weight dissatisfaction is a hindrance to following a healthy lifestyle and it has been associated with weight concerns. Objectives. The aim of this study was to assess the association between the adherence to the Mediterranean lifestyle (diet and exercise) and the desired body weight loss in an adult Mediterranean population with overweight. Methods. Cross-sectional analysis in 6355 participants (3268 men; 3087 women) with metabolic syndrome and BMI (Body mass index) between 27.0 and 40.0 kg/m2 (55–75 years old) from the PREDIMED-Plus trial. Desired weight loss was the percentage of weight that participants wished to lose. It was categorized into four cut-offs of this perce…
Safety and efficacy of irinotecan plus high-dose leucovorin and intravenous bolus 5-fluorouracil for metastatic colorectal cancer: pooled analysis of…
2005
Abstract Background A biweekly regimen of irinotecan 200 mg/m2 on day 1 and levo-leucovorin (LV) 250 mg/m2 plus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 850 mg/m2 via intravenous bolus on day 2 was assessed in 2 consecutive randomized trials in metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). Patients and Methods Individual data of 254 patients were merged, and baseline features potentially affecting overall response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS),overall survival (OS), and occurrence of severe toxicity were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses. Results In the pooled series, ORR was 33% (95% confidence interval [CI], 27%-39%). Liver-only disease (47% vs. 25%; P = 0.0012) and absence of previous we…

Influence of cachexia and sarcopenia on survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a systematic review.
2014
Abstract Background/objectives Cachexia affects ∼80% of pancreatic cancer patients. An international consensus defines cachexia as an ongoing loss of skeletal muscle mass (sarcopenia) with or without loss of fat, which impairs body functioning and cannot be reversed by conventional nutritional measures. Weight loss percentage and elevated inflammation markers have been employed to define this condition earlier. This review aimed to assess the prevalence and consequences of cachexia and sarcopenia on survival in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Methods The systematic review was performed by searching the articles with preset terms published in PubMed and Cochrane Database unti…
Fizioloģisks svara zudums jaundzimušajiem Latvijā: ar to saistītie faktori un atbilstība standartiem
2017
Mērķis: •analizēt FSZ un to ietekmējošus faktorus jaundzimušajiem Latvijā; •izvērtēt iespēju pielietot Amerikas Pediatru asociācijas (APA) FSZ līknes Latvijas jaundzimušajiem. Materiāli un metodes: retrospetīva pētījuma ietvaros tika analizēti dati (dzemdību veids, gestācijas vecums, dzimums, baroša…
