Fracture resistance and failure mode of posterior fixed dental prostheses fabricated with two zirconia CAD/CAM systems.

2014

Background In recent years there has been an improvement of zirconia ceramic materials to replace posterior missing teeth. To date little in vitro studies has been carried out on the fracture resistance of zirconia veneered posterior fixed dental prostheses. This study investigated the fracture resistance and the failure mode of 3-unit zirconia-based posterior fixed dental prostheses fabricated with two CAD/CAM systems. Material and Methods Twenty posterior fixed dental prostheses were studied. Samples were randomly divided into two groups (n=10 each) according to the zirconia ceramic analyzed: Lava and Procera. Specimens were loaded until fracture under static load. Data were analyzed usin…

Fracture toughness of different monolithic zirconia upon post-sintering processes

2021

Background Surface treatments are expected to be a reason for alteration in fracture resistance of zirconia. This study evaluated the effect of post-sintering processes on the fracture toughness of different types of monolithic zirconia. Material and Methods Classical- (Cz) and high-translucent (Hz) monolithic zirconia discs (1.2 mm thickness, 14 mm in Ø) were prepared, and randomly divided for surface treatments with 1) as-glazed (AG); 2) finished and polished (FP); 3) finished, polished, and overglazed (FPOG); and 4) finished, polished, and heat-treated (FPHT) technique (n=15/group). Fracture toughness (KIC) was determined with indentation fracture toughness method at load 1 kg for AG, FP…

Influence of different veneering techniques and thermal tempering on flexural strength of ceramic veneered yttria partially stabilized tetragonal zir…

2019

Background Different technique for ceramic veneering and thermal tempering process are expected to be a reason for alteration in strength of ceramic veneered zirconia. This study evaluates the effect of different veneering technique and varied thermal tempering process on flexural strength of ceramic veneered zirconia. Material and Methods Ceramic veneered zirconia bars (25 mm length, 4 mm width, 0.7&1.0mm of zirconia & ceramic thickness) were prepared from zirconia block (e.max® ZirCAD), sintered at 1500°C for 4 hours, and veneered with ceramics with different techniques including CAD-fused using e.max CAD® (C), Pressed-on using e.max® Zirpress (P), and layering using e.max® ceram (L), wit…

Yttria-stabilized zirconia in-flight particle characteristics under vacuum plasma spray conditions

2009

This paper deals with the diagnostic yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) in-flight particles in Vacuum Plasma Spray (VPS) process using an optical measurement device. Particle velocity, temperature and diameter were correlated to spray distance under a fixed chamber pressure of about 14 kPa. Experiments were carried out with a two-color pyrometer. Results show that correlations can be satisfactory described with linear relationships. Particle velocity and temperature decrease when increasing spray distance whereas particle diameter exhibits a linear increase with the spray distance.

Experimental investigations of local stochastic resistive switching in yttria stabilized zirconia film on a conductive substrate

2020

We report on the results of the experimental investigations of the local resistive switching (RS) in the contact of a conductive atomic force microscope (CAFM) probe to a nanometer-thick yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) film on a conductive substrate under a Gaussian noise voltage applied between the probe and the substrate. The virtual memristor was found to switch randomly between the low resistance state and the high resistance state as a random telegraph signal (RTS). The potential profile of the virtual memristor calculated from its response to the Gaussian white noise shows two local minima, which is peculiar of a bistable nonlinear system.

Stochastic model of memristor based on the length of conductive region

2021

Abstract We propose a stochastic model of a voltage controlled bipolar memristive system, which includes the properties of widely used dynamic SPICE models and takes into account the fluctuations inherent in memristors. The proposed model is described by rather simple equations of Brownian diffusion, does not require significant computational resources for numerical modeling, and allows obtaining the exact analytical solutions in some cases. The noise-induced transient bimodality phenomenon, arising under resistive switching, was revealed and investigated theoretically and experimentally in a memristive system, by finding a quite good qualitatively agreement between theory and experiment. B…

Luminescence of oxygen related defects in zirconia nanocrystals

2007

The luminescence of undoped tetragonal structure ZrO2 nanocrystals was studied. The luminescence intensity depends on oxygen content in gases mixture in which the nanocrystals were annealed. The distorted Zr-O bond is suggested to be the recombination center for band carriers. The oxygen deficient defect is proposed to be responsible for photoluminescence. Mechanical treatment of TiO2 and ZrO2 oxide mixtures

2010

The mixed ZrO2–TiO2 system (5–50 wt% of ZrO2) has been studied to investigate the influence of the mechanical treatment on its physicochemical properties depending on the composition, time of milling (5, 10 and 20 min, r.p.m. 82) and temperature (400, 550 and 700 C). Samples were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersion X-ray analyzer, High Resolution-Transmission Electron Microscopy and nitrogen adsorption porosimetry. Results show that srilankite (TiZrO4) phase has been produced. No influence of the milling time and temperature on the phase composition is observed. The presence of zirconia increases the ther…

A comparative evaluation of shear bond strength between feldspathic porcelain and lithium di silicate ceramic layered to a zirconia core? An in vitro…

2020

Background The bond strength between the zirconia core and ceramic veneer is the weakest component in the layered structure. Delamination of veneering ceramic is reported as one of the most frequent problems associated with Veneered Zirconia restorations. The aim of this study is to compare the shear bond strength of lithium di silicate porcelain to that of feldspathic porcelain on a zirconia Substrate. Material and Methods Two groups (group A and B) of zirconia blocks with each group having 20 samples were fabricated according to Schmitz Schulmeyer method. Group A (n =20 ) samples were veneered with feldspathic veneering porcelain and Group B (n=20) samples were veneered with heat pressed …

Role of coefficient of thermal expansion on bond strength of ceramic veneered yttrium-stabilized zirconia

2017

Background Incompatible coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is supposed to be a reason for chipping of ceramic veneered zirconia. This study evaluates the effect of veneering ceramic at varied CTE on bond strength to zirconia. Material and Methods Zirconia disks (Z, O 10 mm, 1.0 mm thickness) were prepared from Y-TZP (Cercon®) and sintered at 1350°C for 6 hours. All zirconia disks were veneered with ceramics ((O 7.0 mm, 1.5 mm thickness) with varied CTE including VITADur® alpha (VDα), VITAVM®7 (VM7), VITAVM®9 (VM9), Cercon® ceramkiss (CCK), IPSe.max® ceram (IeC), and IPS dSIGN® (IdS) (n=15). The specimens were thermo-cycled (5-55 °C, 500 cycles) prior to determine the shear bond strength…
