Microwave muffle furnace assisted decomposition of vegetable samples for flame atomic spectrometric determination of Ca, Mg, K, Fe, Mn and Zn

Calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese and zinc can be accurately determined in vegetable samples by flame atomic absorption and flame emission spectrophotometry after a previous dry ashing of the sample in a microwave muffle furnace. This treatment is carried out in 45 min using a new accessory developed by us to obtain high temperatures on a domestic microwave oven. Sample ashes, obtained in the muffle, are diluted with nitric acid and the obtained slurry is introduced directly into an air-C2H2 flame for the analysis of Fe, Mn, and Zn, or injected into a double-channel FIA manifold to determine Ca, Mg and K. Martensite transition and microscopic magnetism of epitaxial Ni2MnGa films

AbstractA magnetically induced shape memory effect in Ni2MnGa results in huge magnetostrictive effects of several percent. Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) we investigated element specific magnetic moments and electronic structure of single crystalline, (110) oriented Ni2MnGa films on a-plane Al2O3 substrates in the austenite and martensite state. The structural phase transition of the samples is evident from temperature dependent x-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. Manganese speciation inDiplodon chilensis patagonicusshells: a XANES study

X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) at the Mn K-edge was used to investigate the environment of Mn in situ within the growth increments of the long-lived freshwater bivalve species Diplodon chilensis patagonicus. Single XANES spectra and Mn Kalpha fluorescence distributions were acquired at submillimetre resolution (up to 100 microm x 50 microm), at Mn concentrations below the weight percent range (100-1000 microg g(-1)) in a high Ca matrix. The position and intensity of the pre-edge feature in the shell spectrum resembles best that of the Mn(II)-bearing reference compounds, suggesting that this is the oxidation state of Mn in the bivalve shells. Synergy of Miniemulsion and Solvothermal Conditions for the Low-Temperature Crystallization of Magnetic Nanostructured Transition-Metal Ferrites

Crystalline first-row transition-metal (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) ferrites were prepared by an unprecedented synergetic combination of miniemulsion synthesis and solvothermal route, pursuing unconventional conditions in terms of space confinement, temperature, and pressure. This synergy allowed for obtaining six different crystalline ferrites at much lower temperature (i.e., 80 °C) than usually required and without any postsynthesis thermal treatment. Methane line parameters in the HITRAN2012 database

International audience; The compilation of methane molecular line parameters was updated to include new global analyses and measurements for 12CH4, 13CH4 and 12CH3D. Over 70% of the methane parameters in HITRAN2008 were replaced; existing parameters retained were the microwave lines and the Dyad of 13CH4 near 7 μm and ν6 of 13CH3D near 8.7 μm, 12CH3D (7-4076 cm-1), hot bands of 12CH4 (1887-3370 cm-1) and normal sample CH4 (4800-5550 cm-1 and 8000-9200 cm-1). Formation and Growth of Pd Nanoparticles Inside a Highly Cross-Linked Polystyrene Support: Role of the Reducing Agent

Simultaneous time-resolved SAXS and XANES techniques were employed to follow in situ the formation of Pd nanoparticles in a porous polystyrene support, using palladium acetate as a precursor and gaseous H2 or CO as reducing agents. These results, in conjunction with data obtained by diffuse reflectance UV–vis and DRIFT spectroscopy and TEM measurements, allowed unraveling of the different roles played by gaseous H2 and CO in the formation of the Pd nanoparticles. MOF-Mediated Synthesis of Supported Fe-Doped Pd Nanoparticles under Mild Conditions for Magnetically Recoverable Catalysis**

Metal–organic framework (MOF)-driven synthesis is considered as a promising alternative for the development of new catalytic materials with well-designed active sites. This synthetic approach is used here to gradually transform a new bimetallic MOF, with Pd and Fe as the metal components, by the in situ generation of aniline under mild conditions. This methodology results in a compositionally homogeneous nanocomposite formed by Fe-doped Pd nanoparticles that, in turn, are supported on iron oxide-doped carbon.
