Influence of bed roughness on flow and turbulence structure around a partially-buried, isolated freshwater mussel

The present study uses eddy-resolving numerical simulations to investigate how bed roughness affects flow and turbulence structure around an isolated, partially-buried mussel (Unio elongatulus) aligned with the incoming flow. The rough-bed simulations resolve the flow past the exposed part of a gravel bed, whose surface is obtained from a laboratory experiment that also provides some additional data for validation of the numerical model. The aim of the present review is to investigate the main field-based tests, used alone or included in sport or fitness batteries, for the assessment of health- and skill-related physical fitness components in adolescents. Different scientific databases were searched through using the selected key words related to physical fitness and its components for adolescence. The search focused on original articles and reviews/meta-analyses using valid, reproducible and feasible tests that fit within the school environment. Fizisko aktivitāšu saistība ar uztverto stresu

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot fizisko aktivitāšu saistību ar uztverto stresu. Pētījumā piedalījās 265 respondenti, no tiem 57 (21,5%) vīrieši un 208 (78,5%) sievietes, vecumā no 16 līdz 74 gadiem (M = 29,66, SD = 12,43). Uztvertā stresa mērīšanai tika izmantota Uztvertā stresa skala (Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Cohen, Kamarck & Memelstein, 1983, aptauju latviešu valodā adaptējusi Ieva Stokenberga, 2008) un fiziskās aktivitāšu mērīšanai tika izmantota Fiziskās aktivitātes līmeņa aptauja un pašnovērtējums (Judzika, 2018). Pētījuma rezultāti neparādīja statistiski nozīmīgas saistības starp fiziskām aktivitātēm un uztverto stresu.

Effect of extraction solvent on total phenolic content, total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of Cetraria islandica

Oxidative stress may lead to a number of diseases such as atherosclerosis, nephrotoxicity, liver cirrhosis, cancers, diabetes, and Alzheimer disease. Medicinal plants are an important source of antioxidants. Therefore, the antioxidant potential of Cetraria islandica was evaluated in this work. The coarse powder of leaf of Cetraria islandica was extracted in Soxhlet apparatus, with ethanol (90%) and ethanolic extract of Cetraria islandica (EECI) was further processed for phytochemical screening, total phenol content, total flavonoid content, and various in vitro antioxidant assays.
