The demixing behavior of 20 representatives of the system oligo(dimethylsiloxane)/oligo(propylene glycol) (ODMS/OPG)1 is investigated at pressures up to 1 500 bar. The degrees of oligomerization range from 2 to 5 for the first and from 1 to 57, 6 for the second component. The experimental results are compared with those for the previously studied system oligoisobutene/oligo(propylene glycol) (OIB/OPG). In both cases the observed upper critical temperatures Tc increase with the number of monomeric units of the less polar component, whereas they run through a minimum when the number of monomeric units of the glycol is raised. For the present system the Tc values are found to be considerably h…

Green synthesis of Pd@graphene nanocomposite: Catalyst for the selective oxidation of alcohols

2016

Abstract Due to their excellent physicochemical properties and synergistic effect, graphene metallic NPs based nanocomposites have gained significant attention in various technological fields including catalysis. Here we demonstrate a single pot, facile and environmental friendly synthesis of catalytically active palladium(Pd)@graphene nanocomposites (SP-HRG-Pd) by the simultaneous reduction of graphene oxide (GRO) and PdCl 2 using Salvadora persica L. (miswak) root extract (RE) as bioreductant. The synthesis of SP-HRG-Pd was confirmed by various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, including ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), Raman and X-ray photoelectro…

Organic synthesis of high added value molecules with MOF catalysts

2020

Recent examples of organic synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in confined spaces of MOFs are highlighted and compared with silica-based ordered porous solids, such as zeolites or mesoporous (organo)silica. These heterogeneous catalysts offer the possibility of stabilizing the desired transition states and/or intermediates during organic transformations of functional groups and (C-C/C-N) bond forming steps towards the desired functional high added value molecular scaffolds. A short introduction on zeolites, mesoporous silica and metal-organic frameworks is followed by relevant applications in which confined active sites in the pores promote single or multi-step organic synthesis…

Scalable heterogeneous synthesis of metallic nanoparticles and aggregates with polyvinyl alcohol

2009

Here we report on a new route to synthesize colloidal silver and gold nanoparticles, potentially scalable for massive nanoparticle-production. This method is based on the microwave-assisted heterogeneous reduction of the metal salts with polyvinylalcohol. The reaction is carried out in alcohols, which are non-solvents for polyvinylalcohol. Nanoparticles can be very easily separated by filtration. The reaction kinetics are extremely fast. Size-controlled formation of nanoparticle agglomerates is accomplished with a seed-mediated synthesis of nanoparticles upon MW exposure.

The role of distannoxanes in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from carbon dioxide

2003

Abstract The synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of 1,3-dimethoxytetrabutyldistannoxane were investigated in connection to the mechanism of the selective synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from CO2 and methanol. A new distannoxane, 1-methoxy-3-methylcarbonatotetrabutyldistannoxane, resulting from a 1:1 adduct with CO2 was isolated and characterised by volumetry, multinuclear NMR and IR spectroscopies. When this compound was submitted to 20 MPa of CO2 at 423 K in toluene no dimethyl carbonate was formed, conversely to dibutyldimethoxystannane. However, when methanol was the solvent, dimethyl carbonate was selectively produced. A promoting effect of Si(OCH3)4 was evidenced through methox…

Visible-light driven oxidation of gaseous aliphatic alcohols to the corresponding carbonyls via TiO2 sensitized by a perylene derivative

2013

Sensitized P25 TiO2 was prepared by wet impregnation with a home-prepared perylene dye, i.e., N,N?-bis(2-(1- piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPER). Energy levels of PZPER were found to be compatible with those of TiO2 allowing fast electron transfer. The obtained catalyst has been characterized and used in the gas-phase partial oxidation of aliphatic primary and secondary alcohols, i.e., methanol, ethanol, and 2- propanol. The reaction was carried out under cut-off (?> 400 nm) simulated solar radiation in O2 atmosphere. The perylene derivative allowed a good absorbance of visible radiation thanks to its low optical energy gap (2.6 eV) which was …

Effects of polysorbate 80 on amiodarone intestinal absorption in the rat

1995

Abstract Amiodarone is a widely used anti-arrhythmic agent which shows physico-chemical properties that are highly suitable for diffusion across lipophilic absorbing membranes, however,.its low aqueous solubility could represent the rate-limiting step for absorption, making it erratic and variable. In a previous paper, the influence of an anionic surfactant (sodium lauryl sulphate) at variable supramicellar concentrations was studied. The absorption rate constants of amiodarone decreased as the surfactant concentration increased, and absorption was unusually fast at lower surfactant concentrations. The previously proposed equations for interpreting the relationships between the amiodarone a…

Chromium(VI) oxide oxidation of non-ethoxylated and ethoxylated alcohols for determination by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

2010

A new derivatization procedure to increase the sensitivity of electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) to non-ethoxylated and ethoxylated alcohols was investigated. The analytes were oxidized with chromium(VI) oxide and the resulting carboxylic and ethoxy-carboxylic acids were isolated by extraction with ethyl acetate; the extracts were alkalinized and infused into the ESI-MS system working in the negative-ion mode. The yields of the combined oxidation-extraction were ca. 100% for non-ethoxylated fatty alcohols dissolved in acetone and they decreased moderately in samples containing increasing amounts of water (e.g., a 75% yield was obtained with 50% water). Ethoxylated alcohols w…

Volumes and compressibilities of pentanol in aqueous alkyltrimethylammonium bromide solutions at different temperatures

1990

Speed of sound and density properties of ternary water-tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide-pentanol system at 15, 25 and 35°C and of water-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide-pentanol system at 25, 35 and 45°C were measured at fixed alcohol concentration as a function of surfactant concentration. The apparent molar volumes Vϕ,R and isentropic compressibilities Kϕ,RS of pentanol in micellar solutions as a function of the surfactant concentration show irregular behavior which depends on the alkyl chain length of the surfactant and tends to disappear with increasing temperature. These anomalies are ascribed to micellar transitions. For both surfactants at high concentrations, Vϕ,R decrease and …
