Translation, adaptation and psychometric validation of the preterm birth experience and satisfaction scale (P-BESS) into Spanish.

2018

Abstract Background Preterm labour and birth are two of the most important issues in perinatal care. The birth of a preterm baby is often a stressful and traumatic time for parents. Assessment of satisfaction with maternity services is crucial and questionnaires are the most common method as long as they are well-constructed. Only one, The Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale (P-BESS), developed in United Kingdom, has been designed for this specific birth type. Objectives To translate, transculturally adapt and assess the psychometric properties of the P-BESS into Spanish. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Maternity unit of a tertiary level hospital in Spain. Participants A t…

Visceral adiposity index is associated with histological findings and high viral load in patients with chronic hepatitis C due to genotype 1.

2010

Metabolic factors have been associated with liver damage in patients with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C (G1 CHC). We tested visceral adiposity index (VAI), a new marker of adipose dysfunction in G1 CHC, patients to assess its association with host and viral factors and its link to both histological findings and sustained virological response (SVR). Two hundred thirtysix consecutive G1 CHC patients were evaluated by way of liver biopsy and anthropometric and metabolic measurements, including insulin resistance (IR), homeostasis model assessment (HOMA), and VAI using waist circumference, body mass index, triglycerides, and highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol. All biopsies were scored by one …

In renal transplanted patients inflammation and oxidative stress are interrelated.

2006

Introduction: The inflammatory state plays a well-documented role to cause oxidative stress, especially in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, wherein several cardiovascular risk factors are amplified by the coexistence of a microinflammatory state with increased oxidative stress. Methods: We measured serum concentrations of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), 8-iso-prostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2α-in vivo oxidative stress marker) in 15 chronic renal failure (CRF) and 15 transplant patients versus 15 healthy controls. Exclusion criteria were: age 65 years as well as a diagnosis of diabetes or cardiovascular diseases. We evaluated systolic (SBP) and …

Phase I trial of recombinant human tumour necrosis factor alpha in patients with advanced malignancy.

1991

A phase I clinical trial was conducted with recombinant human tumour necrosis factor alpha (rhTNF-alpha) in 62 patients with advanced malignancy refractory to previous standard therapy. rhTNF-alpha was given as a 30 min infusion twice a day at 6 h intervals. A total of 10 different dose levels was escalated in cohorts of 6 patients ranging from 2.5 to 200 micrograms/m2 twice a day for 5 days every second week for a total of 8 weeks followed by a 4-week observation period. Major side-effects of TNF-alpha therapy, seen in almost all patients studied, were fever and chills. As dose-limiting side-effects hypotension and liver toxicity were recorded in 4 of 5 patients treated with 200 micrograms…

Increased frequency of proinflammatory CD4 T cells and pathological levels of serum neurofilament light chain in adult drug-resistant epilepsy

2020

OBJECTIVE: Adult drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) is associated with significant morbidity. Infiltration of immune cells is observed in DRE epileptic foci; however, the relation between DRE and the peripheral immune cell compartment remains only partially understood. We aimed to investigate differences in immune cell populations, cytokines, and neurodegenerative biomarkers in the peripheral blood of subjects with epilepsy versus healthy controls, and in DRE compared to well-controlled epilepsy (WCE). METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells and serum from >120 age- and sex-matched adults suffering from focal onset epilepsy and controls were analyzed by multipanel flow cytometry, multiplex i…

Values for αβ and γδ T-lymphocytes and CD4+, CD8+, and CD56+ subsets in healthy adult subjects: Assessment by age and gender

2012

Background: Normal reference values in healthy subjects for T-lymphocytes for both types of receptors, αβ and γδ, and their subsets are yet to be defined. The aim of this study was to measure peripheral blood αβ and γδ total T-lymphocytes and their subsets in a population of healthy subjects, in order to obtain valid reference values for studies in human pathology. Methods: We studied a total of 157 healthy subjects, 78 men and 79 women, establishing their levels of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD56+, αβCD3+, αβCD3+CD4+, αβCD3+CD8+, αβCD3+CD56+, γδCD3+, γδCD3+CD4−CD8−, γδCD3+CD8+, and γδCD3+CD56+ T-cells by flow cytometry. The T-cell subsets were compared for different age and gender groups. Results: …

Lysis of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells by autologous HLA-class I-restricted cytolytic T-lymphocyte (CTL) clones.

1993

From the primary site of a pancreatic adenocarcinoma (patient BE) a permanent cell line (MZ-PC-2) was established in tissue culture. In the course of mixed lymphocyte-tumor-cell cultures (MLTC) with autologous blood-derived lymphocytes, we isolated CTL clones that lysed autologous tumor cells but not autologous EBV-transformed B cells (EBV-B) and not K562. Pre-treatment of MZ-PC-2 cells with IFN-gamma was required to obtain significant lysis in 4-hr cytotoxicity assays. IFN-gamma was superior to IFN-alpha in that respect. Among MLTC responder lymphocytes, tumor-reactive CTL proliferated more strongly in response to MZ-PC-2 cells treated with IFN-gamma than to untreated tumor cells. Three CT…

Lack of correlation between expression of HIF-1alpha protein and oxygenation status in identical tissue areas of squamous cell carcinomas of the uter…

2004

Abstract Hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) has been proposed as a candidate endogenous marker of tumor hypoxia and as a molecular mediator of hypoxia-driven malignant progression and acquired treatment resistance. In this study, HIF-1α expression in 68 biopsies of oxygenation measurement tracks from squamous cell carcinomas of the uterine cervix of 38 patients was assessed. Expression of HIF-1α was commonly found to increase as a function of distance from microvessels, at the center of tumor cell aggregations, and in the vicinity of necrotic areas. However, there was no correlation of HIF-1α expression with median oxygen tension (oxygen partial pressure; pO2) and hypoxic fractions (hypox…

Long-term anti-tumour necrosis factor therapy reverses the progression of carotid intima–media thickness in female patients with active rheumatoid ar…

2009

The objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of TNF inhibition on carotid thickness over a 2-year period. 144 women with RA diagnosed according to ACR criteria, without clinical evidence of cardiac and/or vascular disease were enrolled and compared with 78 matched controls. All patients received methotrexate (15–20 mg weekly) for 3 months. Responders (n = 79) continued to be treated with methotrexate, non-responders (n = 40) moved to methotrexate plus a TNF alpha antagonist. Echosonographic studies of carotids were obtained before and after 2-year follow-up. A significant decrease of ca-IMT was observed in anti-TNF-treated patients (P < 0.001); on the other hand, no significant vari…

Psychometric properties of the "Spanish Burnout Inventory" in Chilean professionals working to physical disabled people.

2011

While the most commonly employed burnout measure has been the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), researchers have been troubled by some of the psychometric limitations of this instrument. The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the “Spanish Burnout Inventory” (SBI). The psychometric properties were analysed with data from a sample of 277 Chilean professionals working to physical disabled people. The psychometric properties of the SBI were examined through the following analyses: confirmatory factor analysis, reliability Cronbach's alpha, and concurrent validity with the MBI. The hypothesized four factor model obtained an adequate data fit for the sample (X2(164) = …
