Manejo de los anticoagulantes orales de acción directa en el período perioperatorio y técnicas invasivas

2012

The new direct-acting oral anticoagulants (ACOD) in patients on prolonged treatment require the need to balance the risk of haemorrhage by administering them against the risk of thrombosis on withdrawing them. Recommendations for their management are proposed in the present article: A) Thromboprophylaxis and general anaesthesia: the performing of regional anaesthesia if administered with an ACOD as thromboprophylaxis requires some safety intervals based on their pharmacokinetic parameters; B) Management of ACOD in elective surgery: in patients with normal renal function and a low haemorrhage/thrombosis risk, stop the ACOD two days before the surgery; it the haemorrhage/thrombosis risk is hi…

Fentanyl and sufentanyl in fast track anaesthesia for major intra-abdominal surgery

2012

Background and aim: Major intra-abdominal surgery is estimated to have high costs annually in Italy. In an attempt to decrease surgery costs and improve outcome for patients, fast-track programs have become popular. This is especially due both to the improvement of surgery and to the new anesthetic agents (regarding pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic) resulting in better care for patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate two different anesthetic protocols in patients undergoing scheduled anesthesia including the combination of two different opioids (fentanyl or sufentanil) with the same hypnotic and muscle relaxant. Material and Methods: 40 patients, with an American Society of Anest…

Anaphylaktoide Reaktion auf ein nichtionisches Röntgenkontrastmittel in Allgemeinanästhesie

1990

The occurrence of adverse reactions is decreasing since the introduction of non-ionic contrast media. Anaphylactoid reactions during general anaesthesia are rare and hitherto only documented with the administration of ionic compounds. We report an episode of hypotension, tachycardia, bronchospasm and urticaria following application of a non-ionic contrast medium (Iopamidol) during isoflurane anaesthesia. We conclude that a combinent use of anaesthesia and non-ionic contrast media does not guaranty protection from anaphylactoid reactions to iodinated radiopaque compounds.

Elimination of Parathion by Hemoperfusion in Severe E 605 ForteR Intoxication in Vivo

1978

Severe parathion (P) intoxication results in complete inhibition of cholinesterase activity and toxic accumulation of acetylcholine. Besides these well known biochemical changes, there is evidence of direct toxic effects on the cardio-vascular system which may prove fatal due to an excess of P.

Anestesisykepleieres metoder for å kontrollere cufftrykk – en observasjonsstudie

2021

General anaesthesia versus local anaesthesia for carotidsurgery (GALA): a multicentre, randomised controlled trial.

2008

Background The eff ect of carotid endarterectomy in lowering the risk of stroke ipsilateral to severe atherosclerotic carotid-artery stenosis is off set by complications during or soon after surgery. We compared surgery under general anaesthesia with that under local anaesthesia because prediction and avoidance of perioperative strokes might be easier under local anaesthesia than under general anaesthesia. Methods We undertook a parallel group, multicentre, randomised controlled trial of 3526 patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic carotid stenosis from 95 centres in 24 countries. Participants were randomly assigned to surgery under general (n=1753) or local (n=1773) anaesthesia between J…

Criteria for selecting children with special needs for dental treatment under general anaesthesia

2007

Objective: To study criteria for helping to select children with special needs for dental treatment under general anaesthesia. Materials and methods: Group of 30 children (aged under 18) examined on the Course at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) (Specialisation on holistic dental treatment of children with special needs) and subsequently referred to the Disabled Children’s Oral Health Unit (DCOHU) within Primary Health Care Area 2 of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) where dental treatment under general anaesthesia was given during 2005. Relevant data were taken from their case histories with regard to their general health, oral health and behaviour. Results: In most of the chil…

Anestetici del passato: "spongia soporifera"

2010

Analgesic of the past: spongia soporifera – In order to improve the knowledge of plants used in the past as analgesic and anaesthetic, the authors refer in the current contribute to results coming from a bibliographical research carried out on plants which constituted the ingredients of “spongia soporifera”, a preparation made of a see sponge together with concentrated decoctions of medical plants. The authors analyse the species used for the preparation of “spongia soporifera”, investigating them in historical, botanic, chemical, pharmacological and toxicological aspects.

ESRA19-0692 Which preoperative tests before regional anaesthetic procedures?

2019

As we know, any regional anaesthesia technique stays under failure risks. What anaesthetists have to know about the regional block before let the surgeons start after regional anaesthesia? There are few positions which should be confirmed by tests. Firstly, detect the onset of successful sensitive, motor and sympathetic block. Secondly, confirm the correct area of the regional block. Furthermore, the anaesthetist should understand if the regional block performed under deep sedation or general anaesthesia will be effective also after the surgery. What we have to remember and what we need to check for this reason? Pain is subjective phenomenon. Are we determined as dependent on the patient‘s …
