MAC Design for WiFi Infrastructure Networks: A Game-Theoretic Approach

2011

In WiFi networks, mobile nodes compete for accessing a shared channel by means of a random access protocol called Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). Although this protocol is in principle fair, since all the stations have the same probability to transmit on the channel, it has been shown that unfair behaviors may emerge in actual networking scenarios because of non-standard configurations of the nodes. Due to the proliferation of open source drivers and programmable cards, enabling an easy customization of the channel access policies, we propose a game-theoretic analysis of random access schemes. Assuming that each node is rational and implements a best response strategy, we show that…

A Survey on Dynamic Analysis of the Costas Loop

2015

This survey is devoted to the dynamic analysis of the Costas loop. In particular the acquisition process is analyzed in great detail. Acquision is most conventiently described by a number of frequency and time parameters such as lock-in range, lock-in time, pull-in range, pull-in time, and hold-in range. While for the classical PLL equations for all these parameters have been derived (many of them are approximations, some even crude approximations), this has not yet been carried out for the Costas loop. It is the aim of this analysis to close this gap. The paper starts with an overview on mathematical and physical models (exact and simplified) of the different variants of the Costas loop, c…

Hidden attractors in aircraft control systems with saturated inputs

2017

In the paper, the control problem with limitations on the magnitude and rate of the control action in aircraft control systems, is studied. Existence of hidden oscillations in the case of actuator position and rate limitations is demonstrated by the examples of piloted aircraft pilot involved oscillations (PIO) phenomenon and the airfoil flutter suppression system.

Dynamics of inertial pair coupled via frictional interface

2022

Understanding the dynamics of two inertial bodies coupled via a friction interface is essential for a wide range of systems and motion control applications. Coupling terms within the dynamics of an inertial pair connected via a passive frictional contact are non-trivial and have long remained understudied in system communities. This problem is particularly challenging from a point of view of modeling the interaction forces and motion state variables. This paper deals with a generalized motion problem in systems with a free (of additional constraints) friction interface, assuming the classical Coulomb friction with discontinuity at the velocity zero crossing. We formulate the dynamics of mot…

Small-time bilinear control of Schrödinger equations with application to rotating linear molecules

2023

In [14] Duca and Nersesyan proved a small-time controllability property of nonlinear Schrödinger equations on a d-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^d$. In this paper we study a similar property, in the linear setting, starting from a closed Riemannian manifold. We then focus on the 2-dimensional sphere $S^2$, which models the bilinear control of a rotating linear top: as a corollary, we obtain the approximate controllability in arbitrarily small times among particular eigenfunctions of the Laplacian of $S^2$.

Feedback Classification and Optimal Control with Applications to the Controlled Lotka-Volterra Model

2023

Let M be a σ-compact C^∞ manifold of dimension n ≥ 2 and consider a single-input control system: ẋ(t) = X (x(t)) + u(t) Y (x(t)), where X , Y are C^∞ vector fields on M. We prove that there exist an open set of pairs (X , Y ) for the C^∞ –Whitney topology such that they admit singular abnormal rays so that the spectrum of the projective singular Hamiltonian dynamics is feedback invariant. It is applied to controlled Lotka–Volterra dynamics where such rays are related to shifted equilibria of the free dynamics.

Does Christian Spirituality Enhance Psychological Interventions on Forgiveness, Gratitude, and the Meaning of Life? A Quasi-Experimental Intervention…

2020

Scientific research has provided theoretical evidence on the implementation of religious/spiritual interventions (RSI) as a complementary health therapy, where spiritual improvements are also a factor to consider. Despite the above, there are few studies that have evaluated the clinical applicability of these findings. This study was an intervention with older and younger adults divided into two treatment groups and one control group. What is expected is that the two treatment groups will score better than the control group

Extended fractional-order Jeffreys model of viscoelastic hydraulic cylinder

2020

A novel modeling approach for viscoelastic hydraulic cylinders, with negligible inertial forces, is proposed, based on the extended fractional-order Jeffreys model. Analysis and physical reasoning for the parameter constraints and order of the fractional derivatives are provided. Comparison between the measured and computed frequency response functions and time domain transient response argues in favor of the proposed four-parameter fractional-order model.

On the proper homotopy invariance of the Tucker property

2006

A non-compact polyhedron P is Tucker if, for any compact subset K ⊂ P, the fundamental group π1(P − K) is finitely generated. The main result of this note is that a manifold which is proper homotopy equivalent to a Tucker polyhedron is Tucker. We use Poenaru’s theory of the equivalence relations forced by the singularities of a non-degenerate simplicial map.
