On the ideological consistency between right-wing authoritarianism and social domince orientation.

2007

Abstract The authors argue that cross-national variation in the association between right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and social dominance orientation (SDO) depends upon the degree to which political systems are organized along a single explicitly ideologically articulated left–right dimension. In societies where the political system is ideologized along a single dimension, RWA and SDO should be strongly positively correlated, and the magnitude of this association should be moderated by political identification. This hypothesis was tested in Italy, a society where the political system is highly ideologized, using analyses of concurrent data from student (N = 148) and community samples (N = …

Spanish Adaptation of the Left-Wing Authoritarianism Index

2021

Notwithstanding long-simmering controversies around the construct, several studies have gathered consistent evidence of authoritarian attitudes among left-wing voters and activists. Recently, Costello et al. (Clarifying the structure and nature of left-wing authoritarianism. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 2021) validated, in the English-speaking context, a three-factor scale to measure left-wing authoritarianism, as well as two shortened versions of the same scale (Costello & Patrick, Development and initial validation of two brief measures of left-wing authoritarianism: A machine learning approach, 2021; composed of 39, 25 and 13 items, respectively). In this article, we use…

Societal Threat to Safety, Compensatory Control, and Right-Wing Authoritarianism

2014

We analyzed directly and indirectly the relationships between societal threat to safety, perceived control, and the increase in right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) in two studies. In Study 1 (national sample of the Italian population, N=1,169), we performed a longitudinal analysis structured into three waves (January 2003, September 2004, and January 2005). A moderated regression analysis showed that RWA increased from 2003 to 2005 as a function of perceived societal threat to safety more among low- than among high RWA scorers. In experimental Study 2 (Italian university students, N=131) a moderated mediation model showed loss of perceived control to mediate the relation between societal thre…

The Foundations of Legal Systems

1995

The most important institution claiming political authority in modern societies is the State and its legal system. Both in legal and in political theory the questions which are traditionally held to be the most fundamental are centered around this claim.

How Can Authorities Support Distributed Improvisation During Major Crises? A Study of Decision Bottlenecks Arising During Local COVID-19 Vaccine Roll…

2022

Despite the increased importance attributed to distributed improvisation in major crises, few studies investigate how central authorities can promote a harmonic, coordinated national response while allowing for distributed autonomy and improvisation. One idea implicit in the literature is that central authorities could help track and tackle common decision bottlenecks as they emerge across “improvising” local authorities as a result of shared, dynamic external constraints. To explore this idea we map central functions needed to roll-out vaccines to local populations and identify and classify bottlenecks to decision-making by local authorities managing COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in Norway. W…

The Public-Key-Infrastructure of the Radiological Society of Germany.

2005

Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) encoding is based on the Public-Key-Procedure and permits the safe transmission of medical data. Furthermore it allows the use of an electronic signature provided that keys used belong to the key owner and that the key owner's identity is guaranteed by a trusted third party. Under the auspices of the Radiological Society of Germany (Deutsche Rontgengesellschaft, DRG) its IT-Working Group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Informationstechnik, @GIT) built up an appropriate Certification Authority including the required Public-Key-Infrastructure. These @GIT certified PGP keys allow the legal use of telemedicine in Germany. Digital signatures based to those certified keys corre…

A methodology to select the price criterion in public procurement

2015

[EN] The construction sector is a key driver for economic growth in any nation and public procurement is one of its pillars hence the importance of the study and investigation of its mechanisms, especially tendering criteria. Price is the main deciding factor for most tenders and projects must have an appropriate base price relative to market price to avoid problems during the execution of the project. Most research on price criteria has been developed from the point of view of bidders and has discussed the development of tools and methodologies for determining the optimal bid price. In this paper we propose a methodology for public procurement procedures from the point of view of the admin…

The MiCa proposal in the regular white paper on crypto-assets offerings seems to take into account the benefits and limitations of voluntary and mandatory disclosure systems not opting for either the former or the latter in full. On one hand one can agree with the regulatory approach aimed at adapting the content of the white paper to the type of token offered and at making the white paper either subject to mere notification or to the approval by the competent Authority depending on the asset offered. On the other hand doubts arise on the indistinct allocation of the burden of proof to the user in case of infringement of the relevant white paper framework.Settore IUS/04 - Diritto Commerciale

The article critically analyzes the Italian regulation of subcontracting in the context of public tenders as recently amended by several legislative measures in compliance with the infringement procedure launched by the European Commission against Italy. According to the Author’s view the current legislative framework – characterized by the almost overall elimination of the previous limits (probably even going beyond what the European Commission requested) – lacks in finding a fair balance between the principle of the maximum participation in the tender on the one hand and the need to prevent and reveal potential collusive conduct on the other. Furthermore this conclusion is supported by the analysis of the regulation of the causes of exclusion from the tender still too timid in envisaging the optional exclusion of the participants due to anticompetitive conduct.
