A fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis model to predict bank bailouts: a study of the Spanish financial system

This paper examines the restructuring of the Spanish financial system. This study is justified by the massive economic and social impact of this process in Spain. Based on the annual accounts and the annual reports of Spanish credit institutions, a model was created to predict the possibility of bank failure or bailout. The variables were selected following a review of the literature. They included the legal form of the credit institution (savings bank versus bank), leverage, real estate investment, gross operating margin, staff costs and non-performing loans. The study points to the urgent need to introduce legislative changes in the bankruptcy law, making it easier for aggrieved creditors to pursue ex delicto compensation claims against a person who has committed a tort while acting as a trustee in bankruptcy during the bankruptcy proceedings. The possibility for an individual creditor to pursue all claims against the trustee in bankruptcy for the benefit of the entire community of creditors would improve the compensation function of Article 415 of the Civil Code and Article 160(3) of the Insolvency Law, the preventive function, and the repressive function. Małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa (MSP) odgrywają od lat kluczową rolę w gospodarkach poszczególnych państw i regionów. Stanowią ponad 99% przedsiębiorstw niefinansowych. O ich doniosłym znaczeniu świadczy nie tylko dominująca pozycja pod względem liczby podmiotów, ale również udział w kreowaniu miejsc pracy czy dochodu narodowego. Kluczowym czynnikiem siły i sukcesu MSP jest dostęp do środków finansowych. Badania wskazują, że MSP napotykają większe trudności niż duże firmy w dostępie do źródeł finansowania. Finland is at the forefront of using new information systems, such as mobile banking (m-banking). The present study develops and tests a model of continuous usage intentions toward m-banking services for a sample of 273 Finnish m-banking users. Results confirm the hypothesized direct relationships between self-congruence and perceived value, perceived risk and perceived value, perceived value and continuous usage, and continuous usage and word of mouth. This study examines the continuous usage experience of mobile financial services, and especially mobile banking services, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the context of this study.
