On-body and off-body transmit power control in IEEE 802.15.6 scheduled access networks

2014

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have received much attention due to the possibility to be used in healthcare applications. For these applications, energy saving is a critical issue, as in many cases, batteries cannot be easily replaced. A transmit power control scheme, able to adapt to the variations of the wireless body channel, will allow consistent energy saving and longer battery life. In this paper we propose a transmit power control scheme suitable for IEEE 802.15.6 narrowband scheduled access networks, in which the transmission power is modulated frame by frame according to a run-time estimation of the channel propagation conditions. A simple and effective line search algorithm i…

Oxygen consumption of F0 and F1 larval and juvenile European seabass Dicentrarchus labrax in resonse to ocean acidification and warming

2022

Ongoing climate change is leading to warmer and more acidic oceans. The future distribution of fish within the oceans depends on their capacity to adapt to these new environments. Only few studies have examined the effects of ocean acidification (OA) and warming (OW) on the metabolism of long-lived fish over successive generations. We therefore aimed to investigate the effect of OA on larval and juvenile growth and metabolism on two successive generations of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) as well as the effect of OAW on larval and juvenile growth and metabolism of the second generation. European sea bass is a large economically important fish species with a long generation time…

PERSPECTIVA GLOBAL DAS IMAGENS PUBLICADAS EM MANUAIS DE EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA

2016

The aim of the present study is to determine the treatment given to the pictures of the body and physical activity in Physical Education’s textbooks for Primary School. The sample consists of 997 images of nine textbooks published by five publishers. A descriptive analysis was performed on the variables gender, age, race, and somatotype that refer to the body, and type, scope, space, and level of practice referred to physical activity. Results show that stereotypes still remain regarding the body and physical activity, emphasizing the male, white, thin and youth body that practices sports and motor skills. However, the scope and level of elitist physical activity disappeared from manuals, w…

Ergastoplasmic paracrystalline inclusion bodies in the adipose gonadal envelope and fat body of the glow worm, Lampyris noctiluca (Insecta, Coleopter…

2001

Abstract The gonads of glow worm larvae are enveloped by adipose tissue which represents a specialized fat body. The adipose gonadal envelope, and also to a lesser extent the fat body cells, contain tubular paracrystalline inclusion bodies (PIBs). Cells of other tissues are devoid of such inclusions. The PIBs form in the cisternae of rough ER. In young larvae PIB formation is sparse, but at advanced larval stages PIBs often occur as bundles in stacks of ergastoplasm. Typically, a PIB within a cisterna consists of four to seven parallel tubules. The outer diameter of a tubule is ca 28.8 nm and the width of the tubule lumen ca 12.2 nm. The “wall” of a tubule contains globular protein subunits…

Recent Advances in the Morphology of Myositis

1985

Summary Myositis in man may be divided into infectious and non-infectious forms. The myopathologist more often deals with the latter forms which comprise dermatomyositis/polymyositis, inclusion body myositis, mixed connective tissue disease/collagenoses, and granulomatous myopathies. Modern morphological techniques as enzyme-histochemistry, electron microscopy, immunohistology, and morphometry are of different value in various forms of myositis, but are often indispensable techniques in up-to-date diagnostic work up of a myositis.

Stanley Fahn Lecture 2005: The staging procedure for the inclusion body pathology associated with sporadic Parkinson's disease reconsidered.

2006

The synucleinopathy known as sporadic Parkinson's disease (PD) is a multisystem disorder that severely damages predisposed nerve cell types in circumscribed regions of the human nervous system. A recent staging procedure for the inclusion body pathology associated with PD proposes that, in the brain, the pathological process (formation of proteinaceous intraneuronal Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites) begins at two sites and continues in a topographically predictable sequence in six stages, during which components of the olfactory, autonomic, limbic, and somatomotor systems become progressively involved. In stages 1 to 2, the Lewy body pathology is confined to the medulla oblongata/pontine tegme…

Immunfluorescence study of neuropeptides in identified neurons of the rat auditory superior olivary complex.

1999

The present study was conducted to investigate the distribution and immunohistochemical characteristics of ascending and descending projection neurons of the rat superior olivary complex (SOC), a group of interrelated brainstem nuclei. Ascending neurons were identified by injection of cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) into the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus (IC), descending neurons were labeled by application of Fluoro-Gold (FG) into the scala tympani of the cochlea, ipsilaterally to the IC injection. In accordance with the literature, we observed neurons innervating the IC located in the lateral superior olivary nucleus (LSO) and dorsal periolivary groups (DPO) on both sides, in th…

Different mechanisms of resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis toxins in the indianmeal moth.

2001

ABSTRACT Susceptibility to protoxin and toxin forms of Cry1Ab and the binding of 125 I-labeled Cry1Ab and Cry1Ac has been examined in three Plodia interpunctella colonies, one susceptible (688 s ) and two resistant (198 r and Dpl r ) to Bacillus thuringiensis . Toxicological studies showed that the 198 r colony was 11-fold more resistant to Cry1Ab protoxin than to Cry1Ab activated toxin, whereas the Dpl r colony was 4-fold more resistant to protoxin versus toxin. Binding results with 125 I-labeled toxins indicated the occurrence of two different binding sites for Cry1Ab in the susceptible insects, one of them shared with Cry1Ac. Cry1Ab binding was found to be altered in insects from both re…

Isolated childhood growth hormone deficiency: a 30-year experience on final height and a new prediction model

2022

Purpose We aimed to evaluate the near-final height (nFHt) in a large cohort of pediatricpatients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and to elaborate a new predictive method of nFHt. Methods We recruited GHD patients diagnosed between 1987 and 2014 and followed-up until nFHt. To predict the values of nFHt, each predictor was run in a univariable spline. Results We enrolled 1051 patients. Pre-treatment height was -2.43 SDS, lower than parental height (THt) (-1.09 SDS, p < 0.001). The dose of recombinant human GH (rhGH) was 0.21mg/kg/week at start of treatment. nFHt was -1.08 SDS (height gain 1.27 SDS), higher than pre-treatment height (p < 0.001) and comparable to THt. 1.6% of the pat…
