Impact of systematic whole-body 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT on the management of patients suspected of infective endocarditis: the prospective mult…

2021

AbstractBackgroundDiagnostic and patients’ management modifications induced by whole-body 18F-FDG-PET/CT had not been evaluated so far in prosthetic valve (PV) or native valve (NV) infective endocarditis (IE)-suspected patients.MethodsIn sum, 140 consecutive patients in 8 tertiary care hospitals underwent 18F-FDG-PET/CT. ESC-2015-modified Duke criteria and patients’ management plan were established jointly by 2 experts before 18F-FDG-PET/CT. The same experts reestablished Duke classification and patients’ management plan immediately after qualitative interpretation of 18F-FDG-PET/CT. A 6-month final Duke classification was established.ResultsAmong the 70 PV and 70 NV patients, 34 and 46 wer…

Enhanced adaptation of vesicular stomatitis virus in cells infected with vaccinia virus.

2008

Infections involving different viruses (multiple infections) are common in nature and can take place between different strains of the same virus or between different virus species, including DNA and RNA viruses. The influence of multiple infections on viral evolution has been previously studied using different populations of the same virus. Here, we took a step forward by studying the evolution of an RNA virus (vesicular stomatitis virus, VSV) in the presence of a resident DNA virus (vaccinia virus, VV). Cell cultures were infected with a constant amount of VV, and VSV was added at four different post-VV-inoculation times and four different population sizes. The results showed that the pres…

Migrēnas raksturojums 21.gadsimta sākumā

2019

The “chessboard” classification scheme of mineral deposits: Mineralogy and geology from aluminum to zirconium

2010

Abstract Economic geology is a mixtum compositum of all geoscientific disciplines focused on one goal, finding new mineral depsosits and enhancing their exploitation. The keystones of this mixtum compositum are geology and mineralogy whose studies are centered around the emplacement of the ore body and the development of its minerals and rocks. In the present study, mineralogy and geology act as x - and y -coordinates of a classification chart of mineral resources called the “chessboard” (or “spreadsheet”) classification scheme. Magmatic and sedimentary lithologies together with tectonic structures (1 - D/pipes, 2 - D/veins) are plotted along the x -axis in the header of the spreadsheet dia…

Geochronology and Nd-Sr systematics of Lusatian granitoids: significance for the evolution of the Variscan orogen in east-central Europe

1994

A variety of pre-Variscan granitoids and two Variscan monzogranites occurring in the central and western parts of the Lusatian Granodiorite Complex (LGC), Saxonia were dated by the single zircon evaporation method, complemented by whole rock Nd isotopic data and Rb —Sr whole rock and mineral ages. The virtually undeformed pre-Variscan granitoids constitute a genetically related, mostly peraluminous magmatic suite, ranging in composition from two-mica granodiorite, muscovite-bearing biotite quartz diorite (tonalite) and granodiorite to biotite granodiorite and monozogranite.

Classification of impacted mandibular third molars on cone-beam CT images

2014

Background: Neurological involvement is a serious complication associated to the surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars and the radiological investigation is the first mandatory step to assess the risk of a possible post-operative injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). The aim of this study was to introduce a new radiological classification that could be normally used in clinical practice to assess the relationship between an impacted third molar and mandibular canal on cone beam CT (CBCT) images. Material and Methods: CBCT images of 80 patients (133 mandibular third molars) were independently studied by three members of the surgical team to draw a classification that co…

Automatic Assessment of Depression Based on Visual Cues: A Systematic Review

2019

International audience; Automatic depression assessment based on visual cues is a rapidly growing research domain. The present exhaustive review of existing approaches as reported in over sixty publications during the last ten years focuses on image processing and machine learning algorithms. Visual manifestations of depression, various procedures used for data collection, and existing datasets are summarized. The review outlines methods and algorithms for visual feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, decision methods for classification and regression approaches, as well as different fusion strategies. A quantitative meta-analysis of reported results, relying on performance metrics r…

A 3-D marker-free system for the analysis of movement disabilities--an application to the legs.

2001

The aim of this paper is to describe an approach allowing the analysis of human motion in three-dimensional (3-D) space. The system that we developed is composed of three charge-coupled-device cameras that capture synchronized image sequences of a human body in motion without the use of markers. Characteristic points belonging to the boundaries of the body in motion are first extracted from the initial images. Two-dimensional superquadrics are then adjusted on these points by a fuzzy clustering process. After that, the position of a 3-D model based on a set of articulated superquadrics, each of them describing a part of the human body, is reconstructed. An optical flow process allows the pr…

Clinical behavior of children with infantile cerebral palsy after ozone therapy

2018

Objective.
The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of ozone therapy in the treatment of Infantile Cerebral Palsy (ICP).

 Patients and methods.
A non-controlled clinical assay was made in the Ozone Research Center (CIO), Havana, Cuba from January 2013 to January 2014. The sample was constituted by patients remitted to pediatrics consultation of CIO, to whom inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The study group involved 45 patients, from 1 month of birth to 8 years, with cerebral palsy of hypoxic-ischemic cause. The evaluation criteria were: evolution of the motor disorder according to the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) scale…

Revealing the unique features of each individual's muscle activation signatures

2021

International audience; There is growing evidence that each individual has unique movement patterns, or signatures. The exact origin of these movement signatures, however, remains unknown. We developed an approach that can identify individual muscle activation signatures during two locomotor tasks (walking and pedalling). A linear support vector machine was used to classify 78 participants based on their electromyographic (EMG) patterns measured on eight lower limb muscles. To provide insight into decision-making by the machine learning classification model, a layer-wise relevance propagation (LRP) approach was implemented. This enabled the model predictions to be decomposed into relevance …
