Basic properties of the F-type centers in halides, oxides and perovskites

We present a short survey of the optical properties of primary radiation-induced point defects in alkali halides, simple oxides and some ABO3 perovskites. We discuss in details the optical properties of single electron F and F + centers in rock-salt (f.c.c.) alkali halides and oxides and show that the Mollwo–Ivey law well-known for the F-type centers in alkali halides may be extended for other rock-salt structure insulators. We also discuss the major differences in point defect production mechanisms in halides and oxides. We show that the Rabin–Klick diagram may be generalized for a whole family of alkali halides. Computer modeling of metal colloid formation in tracks of swift heavy ions in ionic solids

Abstract We present results of computer modelling of the aggregation of primary radiation defects—F centers—in ionic crystals within tracks of swift heavy ions. We study how F-aggregate properties depend on the initial density of primary Frenkel defects in the track and its radius. The mean number of F centers in aggregates is typically very small, about five defects, which greatly complicates detection of expected metal colloids by ESR.

Field-induced ordering phenomena and non-local elastic compliance in two-dimensional colloidal crystals

Ordering phenomena in colloidal dispersions exposed to external one-dimensional, periodic fields or under confinement are studied systematically by Monte Carlo computer simulations. Such systems are useful models for the study of monolayers on a substrate. We find that the interaction with a substrate potential completely changes the miscibility of a binary, hard disc mixture at low external field amplitudes. The underlying ordering mechanisms leading to this laser-induced de-mixing differ, depending on which components interact with the substrate potential. Active photonic devices based on colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals and organometallic halide perovskites

Semiconductor nanocrystals have arisen as outstanding materials to develop a new generation of optoelectronic devices. Their fabrication under simple and low cost colloidal chemistry methods results in cheap nanostructures able to provide a wide range of optical functionalities. Nonlinear Optical Characterization of InP@ZnS Core-Shell Colloidal Quantum Dots Using 532 nm, 10 ns Pulses

InP@ZnS core-shell colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized and characterized using the z-scan technique. The nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption coefficients (γ = −2 × 10−12 cm2 W−1, β = 4 × 10−8 cm W−1) of these CQDs were determined using 10 ns, 532 nm pulses. The saturable absorption (β = −1.4 × 10−9 cm W−1, Isat = 3.7 × 108 W cm−2) in the 3.5 nm CQDs dominated at small intensities of the probe pulses (I ≤ 7 × 107 W cm−2) followed by reverse saturable absorption at higher laser intensities. Zr, Hf and REE distribution in river water under different ionic strength conditions

International audience; The Platani River flowing in south-central Sicily, interacting with evaporite rocks, generates a wide range of ionic strength in the water catchment from 0.1 to 5.0 mol kg−1.
