Una storia italiana: Giorgio e Isabella

2018

This paper focuses on the story of two dark-skinned Italians written for Giorgio Marincola by Carlo Costa and Lorenzo Teodonio in Razza partigiana and for his sister Isabella by Wu Ming 2 and Antar Mohamed in Timira. Romanzo meticcio. The events of their lives as well as many other aspects of our colonial neocolonial and postcolonial history have re-emerged from the darkness in which they had been hidden only in the last fifteen years thanks to the reopening of the archives allowing to re-discuss many of the aspects that in the pages of History as well as in those of literature had been told in another way. The two works that could be inserted into the current defined as the "new Italian epic" dismantle a series of clichés and prejudices and invite us to reflect on the concept of Italian identity on colonialism and its consequence in the short and long term and particularly on racism.Settore L-FIL-LET/14 - Critica Letteraria E Letterature Comparate

Double traumatic diaphragmatic injury: A case report.

2019

Highlights • Diaphragmatic injuries are rare complications from trauma. • Bilateral diaphragmatic injuries are extremely rare and just a few cases are reported. • Sometimes the diagnosis is delayed or even missed. • Both primary repair or mesh repair are safe and feasible. • The use of a polypropylene mesh with titanized surface has not been attempted before.

Interleukin-4 induces secretion of CSF for granulocytes and CSF for macrophages by peripheral blood monocytes.

1989

Abstract T cells are known to interact cooperatively with monocytes to produce Colony-Stimulating Factors (CSF), although T cell-mediated signals leading to CSF secretion by monocytes are not completely understood. We have made use of Northern blot hybridization and specific bioassays to study the effects of the T cell product interleukin-4 (IL-4) on monocyte CSF expression. The results suggest a previously unrecognized role of IL-4 as a CSF inducer since exposure of monocytes to IL-4 resulted in accumulation of transcripts for granulocyte-CSF (G-CSF) and macrophage-CSF (M-CSF). Consequently, IL-4-activated monocytes released factors in their culture supernatants biologically and antigenica…

Does granulocyte-colony stimulating factor stimulate peripheral nerve regeneration? An experimental study on traumatic lesion of the sciatic nerve in…

2021

Aim of the study. To analyse the therapeutic potential of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) treatment using a rat model of traumatic sciatic nerve lesion. Clinical rationale for the study. G-CSF has proven strong neurotrophic properties in various models of ischaemic and traumatic brain injury. Fewer studies exist regarding the influence of G-CSF on posttraumatic peripheral nerve regeneration. Currently, the possibilities of pharmacological prevention or treatment of mechanical nerve injury are limited, and there is an urgent need to find new treatment strategies applicable in clinical situations. Material and methods . A controlled traumatic right sciatic nerve lesion was set u…

Longitudinal analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis 19-kDa antigen-specific T cells in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis: association with disease…

2003

CD8(+) T cells play a central role in immune protection against infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. One of the target epitopes for anti-M. tuberculosis directed CD8(+) T cells is the HLA-A2-restricted 19-kDa lipoprotein peptide VLTDGNPPEV. T cell clones directed against this epitope recognized not only the nominal peptide ligand, but also a closely related peptide (VPTDPNPPEV) from the HIV envelope gp120 (HIV(env) gp120) protein characterized by IFN-gamma release. This cross-reactivity was confirmed in ex vivo in M. tuberculosis 19-kDa tetramer-sorted T cells from patients with tuberculosis and in HIVgp120 tetramer-reactive T cells sorted from HIV(+) patients. Transnationalism and Settlement of Latvian Emigrants in the Nordic Countries

2021

The intra-European migration flows have fostered debates about the intentions of migrants to settle in their destination country or return to their countries of origin. Based on a quantitative analysis of survey data ('N' = 1391), this article presents a typology of migration patterns among migrants from Latvia in the Nordic countries. Using two dimensions—attachment to the destination country and attachment to the country of origin—the article identifies and characterises the following four migration patterns: (1) bi-nationals, (2) settlers, (3) footloose migrants and (4) isolated migrants who focus on their country of origin and are willing to return (separated).
