Associations of nutrition and body composition with cardiovascular disease risk factors in soldiers during a 6-month deployment

2020

Objectives This observational follow-up study investigated the associations of nutrition and body composition with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, including pro-inflammatory biomarkers, in soldiers during a 6-month deployment. Material and Methods Thirty-five male soldiers were assessed at months 0, 3 and 6, and their parameters, i.e., M±SD, were as follows: age 30.0±8.7 years, height 179±6 cm, and BMI 24.2±2.5 kg/m 2 . Three-day food diaries were used for monitoring macronutrient intake. Body composition was estimated using bioimpedance. Fasting blood samples for lipids and pro-inflammatory biomarkers were collected, and blood pressure measurements were performed. Results Carboh…

Apple-products phytochemicals and processing: a review.

2009

Epidemiological studies have linked the consumption of apples with reduced risk of some cancers, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and diabetes. Extensive research exists on apples and the health benefits of their beverages and phytochemicals. The purpose of this paper is to review the most recent literature in this area focusing on phytochemicals, phytochemical bioavailability and antioxidant behavior.

On the existence of a pyrochlore-type phase in the system Bi2O3–TiO2

1995

The existence of a bismuth titanate in the range between Bi 2 Ti 4 O 11 (Bi 2 O 3 . 4 TiO 2 ) and Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 (2 Bi 2 O 3 . 3 TiO 2 ) has been investigated by X-ray diffraction of samples prepared by solid state reactions. For reaction temperatures above 1100 °C and a starting composition Bi 2 O 3 . 2 TiO 2 there appeared additional lines which could be attributed to a cubic face-centred cell with a = 10.354 A. A multiphase Rietveld analysis based on X-ray powder diffraction data confirmed the structural model of a pyrochlore for this compound. There is evidence that this phase belongs to the group of defect pyrochlores with a Bi 3+ -deficiency resulting in a composition of Bi 1.833 Ti 2…

Degassing regime of Hekla volcano 2012-2013

2015

Hekla is a frequently active volcano with an infamously short pre-eruptive warning period. Our project contributes to the ongoing work on improving Hekla's monitoring and early warning systems. In 2012 we began monitoring gas release at Hekla. The dataset comprises semi-permanent near-real time measurements with a MultiGAS system, quantification of diffuse gas flux, and direct samples analysed for composition and isotopes (δ13C, δD and δ18O). In addition, we used reaction path modelling to derive information on the origin and reaction pathways of the gas emissions.Hekla's quiescent gas composition was CO2-dominated (0.8mol fraction) and the δ13C signature was consistent with published value…

Abstract The ruthenium(II) complex used as a catalyst in reactions of alcohols and Et 3 SiH proved to be the dimer [(CH 3 ) 3 PRu(CO) 2 Cl 2 ] 2 and not the complex [(CH 3 ) 3 P] 2 Ru(CO) 2 Cl 2 . Both complexes were prepared, characterized and their catalytic properties were compared.

A matrix of combinatorial numbers related to the symmetric groups

1979

For permutation groups G of finite degree we define numbers t"B(G)=|G|^-^[email protected]?"R"@?"[email protected]?"1(1a"1(g))^b^"^i, where B=(b"1,...,b"1) is a tuple of non-negative integers and a"1(g) denotes the number of i cycles in the element g. We show that t"B(G) is the number of orbits of G, acting on a set @D"B(G) of tuples of matrices. In the case G=S"n we get a natural interpretation for combinatorial numbers connected with the Stiring numbers of the second kind.

On the optimal approximation rate of certain stochastic integrals

2010

AbstractGiven an increasing function H:[0,1)→[0,∞) and An(H)≔infτ∈Tn(∑i=1n∫ti−1ti(ti−t)H(t)2dt)12, where Tn≔{τ=(ti)i=0n:0=t0<t1<⋯<tn=1}, we characterize the property An(H)≤cn, and give conditions for An(H)≤cnβ and An(H)≥1cnβ for β∈(0,1), both in terms of integrability properties of H. These results are applied to the approximation of stochastic integrals.

Norm, essential norm and weak compactness of weighted composition operators between dual Banach spaces of analytic functions

2017

Abstract In this paper we estimate the norm and the essential norm of weighted composition operators from a large class of – non-necessarily reflexive – Banach spaces of analytic functions on the open unit disk into weighted type Banach spaces of analytic functions and Bloch type spaces. We also show the equivalence of compactness and weak compactness of weighted composition operators from these weighted type spaces into a class of Banach spaces of analytic functions, that includes a large family of conformally invariant spaces like BMOA and analytic Besov spaces.

Copolymerization of VDF and HFP in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: A Robust Approach for Modeling Precipitation and Dispersion Kinetics

2012

A kinetic model is developed for the heterogeneous free-radical copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene in supercritical CO 2. The model accounts for polymerization in both the dispersed (polymer-rich) phase and in the continuous (polymer-free) supercritical phase, for radical interphase transport, diffusion limitations, and chain-length-dependent termination in the polymer-rich phase. A parameter evaluation strategy is developed and detailed to estimate most of the kinetic parameters a priori while minimizing their evaluation by direct fitting. The resulting model predictions compare favorably with the experimental results of conversion and MWD at varying monomer fe…

Seasonal variations in aerosol particle composition at the puy-de-Dôme research station

2011

Abstract. Detailed investigations of the chemical and microphysical properties of atmospheric aerosol particles were performed at the puy-de-Dôme (pdD) research station (1465 m) in autumn (September and October 2008), winter (February and March 2009), and summer (June 2010) using a Time-of-Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer. Over the three campaigns, the average mass concentrations of the non-refractory submicron particles ranged from 10 μg m−3 up to 27 μg m−3. Highest nitrate and ammonium mass concentrations were measured during the winter and during periods when marine modified airmasses were arriving at the site, whereas highest concentrations of organic particles were measured during the …
