L’ardita realizzazione o il semplice mancato crollo delle stesse rendeva celebre il progettista e la fabbrica in cui la cupola veniva inserita (spesso anche in un secondo momento, rispetto al primigenio nucleo), allo stesso modo i frequenti collassi ed i dissesti ne segnavano gli insuccessi e le qualità, sia nelle ricostruzioni che nei consolidamenti. Tra il 1818 e il 1819 una serie di centri siciliani concentrati nell'area montuosa delle Madonie, furono colpiti a più riprese da una sequenza di scosse sismiche che provocarono numerosi danni all’edificato storico, sia diffuso che di pregio. Il contributo intende indagare i danni e le conseguenti ricostruzioni, con particolare riferimento alle tipologie edilizie e alle tecniche costruttive adottate prima e dopo il sisma. This paper concerns the restoration of the castle of Ventimiglia family in Castelbuono; the initial part, come from the medieval period (XIVth century), underwent considerable transformations in the XVth century by Giovanni Ventimiglia, Count of Geraci. He transformed the old castle, which is primarily defensive, in their own home and restored the chapel dedicated to S. Anna, then reconfigured in 1683. Since the XIXth century the castle had a progressive deterioration and in 1920 it was purchased by the Municipality of Castelbuono. Built between 1130 and 1163, it contains interesting wooden framings that represent both bearing and finishing structures. In the recovery and restoration sites, as well as in the versatile word of university research about construction history, its not infrequent to study stereotomy for the re-proposal of stony or tiled vaulted systems, sometimes complex for their constitutive geometry, equipment, preliminary/subsidiary carpentry works. It represents a didactic study-key also in Engineering and Architecture Schools, through laboratories that teach to future designers a know-how that can be easily spent in their professional repercussions.
