Clerodane diterpenoids from Salvia splendens.

Four new clerodane diterpenoids, salvisplendins A-D (1-4), have been isolated from an acetone extract of the flowers of SalVia splendens, together with an artifact (5), arising from salvisplendin D (4) by addition of diazomethane, and the already known clerodane olearin (6). The structures of the new compounds (1-5) were established mainly by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies and, in the case of salvisplendin A (1), by chemical correlation with splenolide B (7). Complete 1H and 13C NMR assignments for olearin (6), not published hitherto, are also reported.

The effective cross section for double parton scattering within a holographic AdS/QCD approach

A first attempt to apply the AdS/QCD framework for a bottom-up approach to the evaluation of the effective cross section for double parton scattering in proton-proton collisions is presented. The main goal is the analytic evaluation of the dependence of the effective cross section on the longitudinal momenta of the involved partons, obtained within the holographic Soft-Wall model. If measured in high-energy processes at hadron colliders, this momentum dependence could open a new window on 2-parton correlations in a proton.

Matrix metalloproteinases, in particular the gelatinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, have received great attention in recent years as putative tumour markers for clinical applications. The main reason for the observed interest is their easy detection in body fluids. Moreover, recent evidence has shown multiple functions of MMPs, rather than simply degrading ECM, which include the mobilisation of growth factors and processing of surface molecules. The Proton Spectrum in Neutron Beta Decay: Latest Results with the aSPECT Spectrometer

Abstract The purpose of the neutron decay spectrometer aSPECT is to determine the antineutrino electron angular correlation coefficient a with high precision. Latest measurements with aSPECT were performed during April/May 2008 at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. Dynamics of Non Classically Reproducible Entanglement

We investigate when the quantum correlations of a bipartite system, under the influence of environments with memory, are not reproducible with certainty by a classical local hidden variable model. To this purpose, we compare the dynamics of a Bell inequality with that of entanglement, as measured by concurrence. We find time regions when Bell inequality is not violated even in correspondence to high values of concurrence (up to $\approx 0.8$). We also suggest that these results may be observed by adopting a modification of a recent experimental optical setup. Hand-Held texting is less distracting than texting with the phone in a holder: anyway, don't do it

We studied the effects of texting while driving and the effects of mobile phone position (hand-held, holder) on drivers' lane-keeping performance, experienced workload, and in-car glance durations in a motion-platform driving simulator with 24 participants. Overall, we found the known negative effects of texting on lane-keeping performance, workload, and visual attention on road, suggesting that texting on the road in any manner is not risk-free. As a novel finding, we found that hand-held texting led to fewer lane-keeping errors and shorter total glance times off road compared to texting with the phone in a holder. Abstract [H3AlX(CH3)2]− (X=N, P, and As) and H3AlY(CH3)2 (Y=O, S, and Se) donor–acceptor complexes have been studied using G2(MP2) level of theory. The coordination mode, the structural and the methyl substitution effects upon complexation are analyzed. The interaction of the alane with the donor ligand is stronger in the anionic complexes than in the neutral ones and the methylated complexes are more stable than the hydrogenated ones. The coordination is ensured by tow interactions having a reverse character: interaction between a′ symmetry fragment molecular orbital (stabilizing) and interaction between a″ symmetry occupied molecular orbital (destabilizing) of the two fragments. Multichannel multiple scattering calculation ofL2,3-edge spectra ofTiO2andSrTiO3: Importance of multiplet coupling and band structure

We report a theoretical study on x-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Ti-${L}_{2,3}$-edge of rutile and anatase ${\text{TiO}}_{2}$ as well as ${\text{SrTiO}}_{3}$. Using the first-principles multichannel multiple-scattering method, we obtain good agreement with experiment in all cases. We show that both multiplet-type electron correlation effects and the long-range band structure strongly influence the spectra. The differences in line shape between the three compounds are essentially a long-range effect which reflects the different crystal structures on a length scale of 1 nm.

Objectives: Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) may not be performed in clinical practice as it takes too much time and requires special training. The Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA) is widely used to assess nutritional status in older adults. We aimed to determine whether or not the MNA can estimate frailty status defined by the Fried criteria.
