Abstract The plume of a laser-ablated indium–tin-oxide target was investigated by optical emission spectroscopy. Atomic and ionic species of indium, tin and oxygen were observed; moreover, molecular bands of indium oxide were identified in the fluorescent spectra. The effects of the oxygen as a background gas and of the laser fluence on the behaviour of the ejected particles were studied with respect to the intensity of the emission and the delay time as a function of the observation distance from the target surface. Demonstration of remote optical measurement configuration that correlates to glucose concentration in blood

An optical approach allowing the extraction and the separation of remote vibration sources has recently been proposed. The approach has also been applied for medical related applications as blood pressure and heart beats monitoring. In this paper we demonstrate its capability to monitor glucose concentration in blood stream. The technique is based on the tracking of temporal changes of reflected secondary speckle produced in human skin (wrist) when being illuminated by a laser beam. Spectroscopic method to study low charge state ion and cold electron population in ECRIS plasma

The results of optical emission spectroscopy experiments probing the cold electron population of a 14 GHz Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) are reported. The study has been conducted with a high resolution spectrometer and data acquisition setup developed specifically for the diagnostics of weak emission line characteristic to ECRIS plasmas. The optical emission lines of low charge state ions and neutral atoms of neon have been measured and analyzed with the line-ratio method. Investigation into the gas mixing effect in ECRIS plasma using Kα and optical diagnostics

Mixing a lighter gas species into the plasma of an ECRIS is known to enhance high charge state production of the heavier gas species. With this investigation, Kα diagnostics, optical emission spectroscopy and the measured charge state distribution of the extracted beam were combined to shed more light on the physics governing this phenomenon. Kα diagnostics data from two ion sources, the JYFL 14 GHz ECRIS and the GTS at iThemba LABS, are presented to gain confidence on the observed trends. Diagnostics for meta-analysis based on generalized linear mixed models

Meta-analysis is the method to combine data coming from multiple studies, with the aim to provide an overall event-risk measure of interest summarizing information coming from the studies. In meta-analysis generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) are particularly used for a number of measures of interest since they allow the true effect size to differ from study to study while accepting binary, discrete as well as continuous response variable. In the present paper some strategies of influence diagnostics based on log-likelihood are suggested and discussed. These are considered for Individual Patient Data, Aggregate Data and their compounding.
