Using Problem-focused Approach to Nurture Creativity and Entrepreneurship among Students

2015

Abstract This paper discusses the use of a problem-focused approach to nurture creativity and entrepreneurship among students in a school setting. The study sample consisted of three groups of students (age 16 years old) from three secondary schools in Malaysia. The participants consist of 25–35 students from each school (n=95). The data collection took place during three workshops, which were conducted using a problem-focused approach, with participants from each school. At the end of each workshop, participants were asked to fill in an electronic diary about their experience. The participants’ reflections after the first workshop were analysed to identify the use of a problem-focused appr…

Ecological Sampling Methods for Studying Everyday Situations

2017

This chapter reviews existing and emerging methodologies for the ambulatory assessment of real-world situations. It distinguishes between first-person/subjective and third-person/objective approaches and provides research examples for each reviewed ecological assessment method. The chapter opens with a discussion of why it is important to assess situations directly in daily life. The following two main sections review approaches for (a) the first-person assessment of real-world situation experiences and perceptions, such as experience sampling and daily diary approaches, and (b) the third-person assessment of objective real-world situation cues, such as naturalistic observation and mobile s…

Evaluation of a short food frequency questionnaire used among Norwegian children.

2012

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate a short food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) against a four-day precoded food diary (PFD) with regard to frequency of food intake among Norwegian 9- and 13-year-olds. Subjects and design: A total of 733 9-year-olds and 904 13-year-olds completed first a short FFQ and one to two weeks later a four-day PFD. The short FFQ included questions about 23 food items, including different drinks, fruits, vegetables, bread, fish, pizza, sweets, chocolate and savoury snacks. The PFD covered the whole diet. Results: When comparing mean intake from the PFD with comparable food items in the FFQ, all food items showed that increasing intake measured with the PF…

A school-based physical activity promotion intervention in children: rationale and study protocol for the PREVIENE Project

2017

The lack of physical activity and increasing time spent in sedentary behaviours during childhood place importance on developing low cost, easy-toimplement school-based interventions to increase physical activity among children. The PREVIENE Project will evaluate the effectiveness of five innovative, simple, and feasible interventions (active commuting to/from school, active Physical Education lessons, active school recess, sleep health promotion, and an integrated program incorporating all 4 interventions) to improve physical activity, fitness, anthropometry, sleep health, academic achievement, and health-related quality of life in primary school children. The PREVIENE Project will provide …

From Intense to Leisurely Study Days : A Diary Study of Daily Wellbeing among Students in Higher Education

2020

This mobile diary study examined day-to-day variability during one study week among university students and study-related associated factors promoting and impairing their well-being. Specifically, we explored (1) what factors university students consider as promoting and as impairing their daily wellbeing, (2) what types of daily study profiles for students can be identified based on study hours, study motivation, and academic stress, and (3) how the factors promoting and impairing students’ daily wellbeing are related to these daily study profiles. The study utilized one-week mobile diary data collected from 86 university students studying in a Finnish university (a total of 602 measuremen…

«L’immaginazione terrorizzata» e «la malinconia dissolvente». La tensione diaristica di Giuseppe Antonio Borgese

2020

The five manuscript texts in Italian, written almost entirely in America, to which the writer from Polizzi Generosa entrusted his self-confidence, poetic and civic re-foundation, unfold over a chronological period from 1928 to 1935. We dwell on the intrinsic contamination between autobiography and invention that feeds Borgese’s writing in a web of literary, ethical, spiritual, philosophical and political ramifications. The contemporary reconfiguration of Borgese’s novelistic path in the volume “Il pellegrino appassionato” is also part of this perspective, investigated through the references in the diary to some of the novels that are most nourished by the fundamental themes of private self-…

A Modern-Day Diary : Notes for Future Humans

2021

Abstract Time and being can be seen as a space. A modern-day diary is a way of exploring that space or state of being. Outlining and shaping it requires word, image and imagination. The question is framed cultural-philosophically, and the mode of writing is poetic essayism. Otherwise, the creative untangling and differentiation of the poetics of lived space is not possible. After all, the goal is to combine science and art and weave them into the same reflective fabric. The essential aspects include thoughts about the fullness and filling of something, about its fulfilment. Then the present moment is not seen as marking a boundary in just one direction: it is not just an endpoint of the pas…

Determination and separation of diarylheptanoids from alder growing in Latvia

2015

The composition of diarylhepatnoids fraction isolated from bark of two alder species (grey alder and black alder) was studied. The efficiency of three extraction methods used for isolation of diarylhepatnoids from alder bark was compared. Two diarylhepatnoids: 1,7-bis-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-heptan- 3-one-5-O-β-D-xylopyronoside (oregonin) and 1,7-bis-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3-hydroxyheptane-5-O-β-D- xylopyranoside were isolated from the bark of grey alder. The phenolic components of the extracts were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Quantitative determination of oregonin was performed using an internal standard method. The results obtained show that alder barks are ric…
