The "Historia de la doncella Teodor" in Burgos’ Printing Press: Regarding a New Edition from Juan de Junta’s Workshop, c. 1535-1540

En este trabajo se da noticia y se lleva a cabo el estudio tipobibliográfico de una edición sine notis de la Historia de la doncella Teodor. El análisis permite identificar la impresión en Burgos en el taller de Juan de Junta, c. 1535-1540. El rasgo material que singulariza este impreso es que la última hoja del primer cuaderno ha sido remedada por una copia manuscrita que no solo reproduce la tipografía original, sino también, a plumilla, las estampas. El estudio textual e iconográfico nos permitirá identificar la fuente del folio contrahecho.

Dioxygen reduction by cobalt(II) octaethylporphyrin at liquid|liquid interfaces.

Oxygen reduction catalyzed by cobalt(II) (2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethylporphyrin) [Co(OEP)] at soft interfaces is studied by voltammetry and biphasic reactions. When Co(OEP) is present in a solution of 1,2-dichloroethane in contact with an aqueous acidic solution, oxygen is reduced if the interface is positively polarized (water phase versus organic phase). This reduction reaction is facilitated when an additional electron donor, here ferrocene, is present in excess in the organic phase.

Midinfrared FT-IR as a Tool for Monitoring Herbaceous Biomass Composition and Its Conversion to Furfural

A semiquantitative analysis by means of midinfrared FT-IR spectroscopy was tuned for the simultaneous determination of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in industrial crops such as giant reed (Arundo donaxL.) and switchgrass (Panicum virgatumL.). Ternary mixtures of pure cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin were prepared and a direct correlation area/concentration was achieved for cellulose and lignin, whereas indirect correlations were found for hemicellulose quantification. Good correspondences between the values derived from our model and those reported in the literature or obtained according to the official Van Soest method were ascertained. Arundo Donax particles as reinforcement for PLA based composites

Aim of this work was to use particles obtained by grinding the culms of Arundo Donax used as reinforcement for PLA based composites. The influence of the content (10 wt% and 20 wt%) and size (150-300 μm and 300-500 μm) of Arundo Donax filler (ADF) on the morphology and on the properties of PLA-ADF composites was evaluated. The composites were prepared by melt compounding the PLA with ADF using a co-rotating modular twin screw extruder. For comparison, neat PLA was processed under the same conditions. Both the neat PLA and the composites were characterized by SEM, DSC, tensile and flexural measurements.

Glycosyl azides as building blocks in convergent syntheses of oligomeric lactosamine and Lewisx saccharides

Abstract Oligosaccharides containing type 2 lactosamine repeating units, e.g. neo-lacto-octaose and trimeric Lewis x derivatives, are constructed using neo-lactosamine azide building blocks. The azido group provides a favorable protection of the anomeric position which is stable to versatile protecting group manipulations and glycosylation reactions. On the other hand, glycosyl azides can be converted into glycosyl fluorides via a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with di- tert -butyl-acetylenedicar☐ylate and subsequent treatment of the resulting N -glycosyl triazoles with hydrogen fluoride-pyridine complex. A new method of anomeric protection and activation based on the conversion of glycosyl azides into glycosyl fluorides

Glycosyl azides provide reliable anomeric protection stable to conditions for hydrolytic removal of ester groups, for reductive opening or release of acetalic diol protection, for the introduction of ether-type protection, and for glycosylation processes. The utility of this anomeric protection is further enhanced as glycosyl azides may be converted into glycosyl fluorides, which can be activated for glycosylation reactions. To this end, glycosyl azides have been subjected to 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with di-tert-butyl acetylenedicarboxylate. On treatment with hydrogen fluoride-pyridine complex the N-glycosyl triazole derivatives directly give glycosyl fluorides.

Acene-type donors bearing one 1,3-dithiole ring

Abstract A series of acene-type donors bearing only one 1,3-dithiole ring have been synthesized by following a Wittig-Horner reaction from 7 H -benz[ d,e ]anthracen-7-one and several phosphonate esters. The excellent donor properties have been studied using both experimental techniques and quantum-chemical calculations and reveal that the extraction of the first electron in the oxidation process occurs from the dithiole ring (0.42 e) and the acene unit (0.58 e).
