Recommendations of the working group of the Anatomische Gesellschaft on reduction of formaldehyde exposure in anatomical curricula and institutes.

2018

The practice of human and veterinary medicine is based on the science of anatomy and dissection courses are still irreplaceable in the teaching of anatomy. Embalming is required to preserve body donors, for which process formaldehyde (FA) is the most frequently used and well characterized biocidal substance. Since January 2016, a new occupational exposure limit (OEL) for FA of 0.37mg/m3 issued by the European Committee on Hazardous Substances is obligatory since FA has been classified as a human 1B carcinogen. The anatomical institutes in the German-speaking region are called upon to consolidate efforts to reduce use of FA in anatomical curricula and body donations. As a result, the Anatomi…

De Praepositione: The Emerging of Donatus’s Thought on Syntax?

2020

The paper aims at investigating the syntax treatment in late Antiquity through the analysis of the description of prepositions within Donatus’s Artes. As far as an organic and dedicated description of syntax is concerned, the Roman tradition of grammatical studies in late Antiquity shows an overall gap. However, reflections on syntax emerge from the parts of speech descriptions made by grammarians. The ultimate purpose of this paper is to understand if, and to what extent, traces of emerging thought on syntax can be found in Donatus’s description of prepositions. These are regarded as a syntactic object of study by the modern linguistic theory. To that end, the paper focuses on the textual …

El organismo instrumento solidario: La hemodonación. Ontinyent un caso estudio

2015

Type of culture media does not affect embryo kinetics: a time-lapse analysis of sibling oocytes

2013

Are the morphokinetics of growing embryos affected by the type of culture media utilized?Morphokinetic parameters used for embryo selection are not affected between the two different concept culture media analyzed.Studies on the effect of culture media on human embryos have focused on evaluating different in-house and commercially available media as well as comparing outcomes among different commercial media. Nonetheless, the evaluation of embryo development in these studies was based on static observations and very little is known from a dynamic point of view.Prospective cohort study, October 2010 and April 2011.University-affiliated infertility center. Patients undergoing egg donation (n …

Cumulative newborn rates increase with the total number of transferred embryos according to an analysis of 15,792 ovum donation cycles

2011

Objective To measure the success of in vitro fertilization (IVF) of donated ova according to cumulative newborn rates (CNBR) per number of embryos required to achieve at least one newborn (EmbR), considering in addition the relevance of age and infertility etiology. Design Survival curves and Kaplan-Meier methods were employed to analyze CNBR with respect to the number of EmbR in a retrospective cohort of oocyte donation recipients. Setting University-affiliated infertility center. Patient(s) Infertile couples undergoing IVF with oocyte donation. Intervention(s) None. Main Outcome Measure(s) CNBR per EmbR. Result(s) The CNBR increased radically (up to 64.8%) between 1 and 5 EmbR, moderately…

Obesity and poor reproductive outcome: the potential role of the endometrium

2007

Objective To analyze the potential role of extraovarian factors such as endometrium in the reproductive outcome of obese patients. Design Retrospective study. Setting University-affiliated infertility clinic, between January 2001 and July 2005. Patient(s) Women undergoing a total of 2656 first ovum donation (OD) cycles with good quality embryos. Intervention(s) The oocyte donors underwent controlled ovarian hyperstimulation, and recipients received a well-established hormonal replacement therapy for endometrial preparation. In vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was performed according to semen characteristics. All first cycles (n = 2656) of ovum donation us…

Confident Perception of Primary Care Physicians Correlates to the Attitude Toward Donation and Organ Transplantation: A Multicenter Study of Medical …

2020

A primary care physician (PCP) not only accompanies the patient in the process of an illness, but throughout his or her life. The confidence we have in these health professionals is fundamental, and their favorable attitude toward organ donation and transplantation (ODT) has a significant influence on the population. Objective To analyze trust in PCPs among Spanish medical and nursing students, the relationship with their attitude toward ODT, and the factors that condition it. Methods and Design A sociologic, multicenter, and observational study. Population: medical and nursing students in Spanish universities. Database: Collaborative International Donor Project, stratified by geographic ar…

Exploring Health Science Students' Notions on Organ Donation and Transplantation: A Multicenter Study.

2020

The knowledge acquired during university education about organ donation and transplantation (ODT) decisively influences the information future health professionals transmit. This is important in ODT where the participation of the general public is essential to obtain organs. Objective To determine notions of Spanish medicine and nursing students on ODT and its relationship with attitude toward ODT. Methods and Design and design. We conducted a sociologic, multicenter, and observational study. The population for our study consisted of medical and nursing students in Spanish universities. Our database was the Collaborative International Donor Project, stratified by geographic area and academi…

Organ Donation Related With Attitude Toward the Law of Presumed Consent: Spanish University Medical and Nursing Students Study.

2020

Information provided by health care professionals is crucial to create a climate of social opinion. This is important in organ donation and transplantation (ODT), where the participation of the general public is essential to obtain organs. Objective To determine the attitude toward the Law of Presumed Consent (LPC) among Spanish university students and to analyze their relation with attitude toward ODT. Methods and design. The type of study was a sociologic, multicenter, observational study. The population included medical and nursing students in Spanish universities. Database of Collaborative International Donor Project was used stratified by geographic area and academic course. A validate…
