The inhibitory effect of long-term associative representation on working memory

Studies on how long-term memory affects working memory (WM) have found that long-term memory can enhance WM processing. However, these studies only use item memory as the representation of long-term memory. In addition to item memory, associative memory is also an essential part of long-term memory. The associative memory and item memory involve different cognitive mechanisms and brain areas. The purpose of the present study was to investigate how associative memory affects WM processing. Effects of undergrowth removal and edge proximity on ground beetles and vascular plants in urban boreal forests

Urban forests are regularly managed for human safety and esthetic reasons, but they are crucial habitat for many species. Removals of undergrowth occur commonly in these forests, yet the ecological consequences of these operations are poorly understood. We sampled ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) and vascular plants along 20-m edge gradients in Finnish urban forests, in five stands treated 0.5–2.5 years earlier with undergrowth removal and in five untreated stands. 0012-1606 (Print) Journal Article; Changes in translatable mRNAs from the wing epidermis of the Coleoptera Tenebrio molitor have been investigated during metamorphosis by analysis of in vitro translated products. Striking differences between the patterns obtained from mRNAs extracted during pupal and adult cuticle secretion indicated that a drastic change in gene expression occurs during the pupal-adult transition. Influence of aroma compounds on the mechanical properties of pectin gels.

A detailed study of the rheological behavior of pectin gels, in the presence of aroma compounds in food concentration is reported. In high methoxylated pectin (HMP) gels, it has not yet been shown if aroma compounds can be responsible for modifications in rheology. Two rheological techniques were used to measure the impact of aroma substances on rheological properties of HMP-based systems. Synthesized benzamido derivatives exert antiproliferative effects by DNA damage and ROS generation.

In this study we explored the effect and the biological action of synthesized benzamido derivatives bearing the (1S,2S)-2-phenyl-cyclopropane-1-carboxamido, 1,1'-biphen-2-carboxamido and 1,1'-biphen-4-carboxamido moieties on K562, a human leukemia cell line. Among the synthesized compounds a particular antiproliferative action was observed with the benzamido derivative bearing the 2-1,1'-biphenyl moiety with the substitution at the 5 position of the benzamido moiety with iodine.
