Contributions of Nonverbal Cues to the Accurate Judgment of Personality Traits

In this chapter, we summarize research on nonverbal expressions of behavior (nonverbal cues) and how they contribute to the accuracy of personality judgments. First, we present a conceptual overview of relevant nonverbal cues in the domains of facial expressions, body language, paralanguage, and appearance as well as approaches to assess these cues on different levels of aggregation. Statistical inference is essential for science since the twentieth century (Salsburg, 2001). Since it's introduction into science, the null hypothesis significance testing (NHST), in which the P-value serves as the index of “statistically significant,” is the most widely used statistical method in psychology (Sterling et al., 1995; Cumming et al., 2007), as well as other fields (Wasserstein and Lazar, 2016). Spirituality and Ethnocultural Empathy Among Italian Adolescents: The Mediating Role of Religious Identity Formation Processes

The current study examined the unique and combined roles of spirituality and religious identity formation processes on ethnocultural empathy among Italian youth. Spirituality was conceptualized as a desire for self-transcendence. Ethnocultural empathy entails concern for those of other cultural backgrounds. Systemic PaO2 oscillations cause mild brain injury in a pig model

OBJECTIVE: Systemic PaO2 oscillations occur during cyclic recruitment and derecruitment of atelectasis in acute respiratory failure and might harm brain tissue integrity. DESIGN: Controlled animal study. SETTING: University research laboratory. SUBJECTS: Adult anesthetized pigs. The non-neuronal cholinergic system is widely expressed in human airways. Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and/or acetylcholine are demonstrated in more or less all epithelial surface cells (goblet cells, ciliated cells, basal cells), submucosal glands and airway smooth muscle fibres. Acetylcholine is also demonstrated in the effector cells of the immune system (lymphocytes, macrophages, mast cells). Divergent effects of biolistic gene transfer in a mouse model of allergic airway inflammation.

Particle-mediated epidermal delivery (PMED) of allergen genes efficiently prevents systemic sensitization and suppresses specific immunoglobulin E synthesis. We investigated in a mouse model of allergic airway disease the effect of PMED on the elicitation of local inflammatory reactions in the lung. Formations of finite monoids and formal languages: Eilenberg’s variety theorem revisited

International audience; We present an extension of Eilenberg's variety theorem, a well-known result connecting algebra to formal languages. We prove that there is a bijective correspondence between formations of finite monoids and certain classes of languages, the formations of languages. Our result permits to treat classes of finite monoids which are not necessarily closed under taking submonoids, contrary to the original theory. New degeneration of Fay's identity and its application to integrable systems

In this paper, we find a new degenerated version of Fay's trisecant identity; this degeneration corresponds to the limit when the four points entering the trisecant identity coincide pairwise. This degenerated version of Fay's identity is used to construct algebro-geometric solutions to the multi-component nonlinear Schrodinger equation. This identity also leads to an independent derivation of algebro-geometric solutions to the Davey–Stewartson equations previously obtained in [17] in the framework of the Krichever scheme. We also give the condition of smoothness of the obtained solutions.

Unifying vectors and matrices of different dimensions through nonlinear embeddings

Complex systems may morph between structures with different dimensionality and degrees of freedom. As a tool for their modelling, nonlinear embeddings are introduced that encompass objects with different dimensionality as a continuous parameter $\kappa \in \mathbb{R}$ is being varied, thus allowing the unification of vectors, matrices and tensors in single mathematical structures.
