Norovirus GII.17 as Major Epidemic Strain in Italy, Winter 2015–16

In winter 2015-16, norovirus GII.17 Kawasaki 2014 emerged as a cause of sporadic gastroenteritis in children in Italy. Median patient age was higher for those with GII.17 than GII.4 infection (55 vs. 24 months), suggesting limited cross-protection for older children.

Temporal variation in the distribution of type-1 human astrovirus lineages in a settled population over 14 years.

Human astroviruses (HAstVs) are important enteric pathogens that are genetically and antigenically heterogeneous and can be classified into eight sero/genotypes (HAstV-1 to -8) and different lineages within each HAstV type. This study describes the genetic diversity of HAstVs circulating in southern Italy over 14 years. Molecular analysis of HAstV-1 strains showed that three different lineages (1a, 1b and 1d) of the predominant genotype were circulating during the study period. Gene family encoding allograft inflammatory factor-1 (AIF-1) is well conserved among organisms; however, there is limited knowledge in lower organisms. In this study, the first AIF-1 homologue from cnidarians was identified and characterised in the sea anemone Anemonia viridis. The full-length cDNA of AvAIF-1 was of 913 bp with a 5' -untranslated region (UTR) of 148 bp, a 3'-UTR of 315 and an open reading frame (ORF) of 450 bp encoding a polypeptide with149 amino acid residues and predicted molecular weight of about 17 kDa. Destination engagement on Facebook: Time and seasonality

Abstract This paper studies the influence of time frames (posting day and posting time) and seasonality (low, medium and high) on positive/negative engagement in a Destination Management Organization (DMO) on Facebook. A content analysis was carried out on 639 posts, 178,913 audience reactions to such posts and 5330 comments. These posts were shared 45,194 times by the audience. The data analysis (regression analyses with optimal scaling) suggests that the best times to post are at 8  am , 10  am , 2  pm and 5  pm ; Thursday and Saturday are the best days to post, and the period before summer (from January to June) are the best months.
