Multiplicative loops of 2-dimensional topological quasifields

2015

We determine the algebraic structure of the multiplicative loops for locally compact $2$-dimensional topological connected quasifields. In particular, our attention turns to multiplicative loops which have either a normal subloop of positive dimension or which contain a $1$-dimensional compact subgroup. In the last section we determine explicitly the quasifields which coordinatize locally compact translation planes of dimension $4$ admitting an at least $7$-dimensional Lie group as collineation group.

Collision Theory for Two- and Three-Particle Systems Interacting via Short-Range and Coulomb Forces

1996

In two- and three-particle reactions with light nuclei, a rich body of precise experimental data exists in which both projectile and target and/or the fragments occurring in the final state are charged. In order to make optimal use of these data for extracting physically interesting information about the nuclear interactions, the effects of the Coulomb force must be separated out in a reliable manner. For this purpose the mastering of the intricacies of charged-particle scattering theory is of vital importance.

A Generalised RBF Finite Difference Approach to Solve Nonlinear Heat Conduction Problems on Unstructured Datasets

2011

Radial Basis Functions have traditionally been used to provide a continuous interpolation of scattered data sets. However, this interpolation also allows for the reconstruction of partial derivatives throughout the solution field, which can then be used to drive the solution of a partial differential equation. Since the interpolation takes place on a scattered dataset with no local connectivity, the solution is essentially meshless. RBF-based methods have been successfully used to solve a wide variety of PDEs in this fashion. Such full-domain RBF methods are highly flexible and can exhibit spectral convergence rates Madych & Nelson (1990). However, in their traditional implementation the fu…

A comparison analysis between unsymmetric and symmetric radial basis function collocation methods for the numerical solution of partial differential …

2002

Abstract In this article, we present a thorough numerical comparison between unsymmetric and symmetric radial basis function collocation methods for the numerical solution of boundary value problems for partial differential equations. A series of test examples was solved with these two schemes, different problems with different type of governing equations, and boundary conditions. Particular emphasis was paid to the ability of these schemes to solve the steady-state convection-diffusion equation at high values of the Peclet number. From the examples tested in this work, it was observed that the system of algebraic equations obtained with the symmetric method was in general simpler to solve …

Rotational diffusion of colloid spheres in concentrated suspensions studied by deuteron NMR

1997

We present a study of the application of deuteron-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) to the investigation of the rotational diffusion of spherical colloidal particles. We performed NMR pulse experiments on colloidal suspensions of polystyrene latex spheres in water-glycerol mixtures in a wide range of particle volume fractions \ensuremath{\varphi} from the dilute suspension up to \ensuremath{\varphi}=0.504. We have analyzed the stimulated echo NMR signal in the time domain. The full shape of the orientational correlation function deviates from an exponential behavior in the whole \ensuremath{\varphi} range examined. We evaluate the rotational diffusion coefficient and calculate i…

Laser speckle imaging for early detection of microbial colony forming units

2021

In this study, an optical contactless laser speckle imaging technique for the early identification of bacterial colony-forming units was tested. The aim of this work is to compare the laser speckle imaging method for the early assessment of microbial activity with standard visual inspection under white light illumination. In presented research, the growth of Vibrio natriegens bacterial colonies on the solid medium was observed and analyzed. Both – visual examination under white light illumination and laser speckle correlation analysis were performed. Based on various experiments and comparisons with the theoretical Gompertz model, colony radius growth curves were obtained. It was shown that…

EXTRACELLULAR VESCICLES DERIVED FROM GUT MICROBIOTA IN INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE AND COLORECTAL CANCER

2021

The human gut microbiome encompasses inter alia, the myriad bacterial species that create the optimal host-micro-organism balance essential for normal metabolic and immune function. Various lines of evidence suggest that dys-regulation of the microbiota-host interaction is linked to pathologies such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). Extracellular vesicles (EVs), found in virtually all body fluids and produced by both eukaryotic cells and bacteria are involved in cell-cell communication and crosstalk mechanisms, such as the immune response, barrier function and intestinal flora. This review highlights advancements in knowledge of the functional role that EVs ma…

Thermodynamic stability of non-stoichiometric SrFeO 3−δ : a hybrid DFT study

2019

SrFeO3-δ is mixed ionic-electronic conductor with complex magnetic structure which reveals also colossal magnetoresistance effect. This material and its solid solutions are attractive for various spintronic, catalytic and electrochemical applications, including cathodes for solid oxide fuel cells and permeation membranes. Its properties strongly depend on oxygen non-stoichiometry. Ab initio hybrid functional approach was applied here for a study of thermodynamic stability of a series of SrFeO3-δ compositions with several non-stoichiometries δ, ranging from 0 to 0.5 (SrFeO3 - SrFeO2.875 - SrFeO2.75 - SrFeO2.5) as the function of temperature and oxygen pressure. The results obtained by consid…

Generalized Braid Groups and Mapping Class Gropus

1997

Given a chord system of D2, we associate a generalized braid group, a surface and a homomorphism from this braid group to the mapping class group of the surface. We disprove a conjecture stated in an article by Perron and Vannier by showing that generally this homomorphism is not injective.
