Intra-individual variability in TSH levels of healthy women during the first half of pregnancy

2017

TSH is the parameter most widely accepted to assess thyroid function, especially in pregnant women. The aim of this current study was to analyze intra-individual changes in TSH during the first half of pregnancy in women with TSH levels higher than 2.5mIU/L in early pregnancy. An observational, prospective study was conducted on 243 healthy pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Thyroid function was assessed by testing TSH and free T4 levels. A subgroup of women with TSH levels2.5mIU/L underwent additional tests (TSH, free T4, peroxidase antibodies). Information on dietary iodine intake and/or iodine supplements was also recorded.Mean TSH level was 1.89mIU/L (range 0.024-6.48mIU…

A Tunable, Fullerene‐Based Molecular Amplifier for Vibrational Circular Dichroism

2019

Abstract Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) studies are reported on a chiral compound in which a fullerene C60 moiety is used as an electron acceptor and local VCD amplifier for an alanine‐based peptide chain. Four redox states are investigated in this study, of which three are reduced species that possess low‐lying electronic states as confirmed by UV/Vis spectroelectrochemistry. VCD measurements in combination with (TD)DFT calculations are used to investigate (i) how the low‐lying electronic states of the reduced species modulate the amplification of VCD signals, (ii) how this amplification depends on the distance between oscillator and amplifier, and (iii) how the spatial extent of the…

Serum inhibin A, inhibin B, pro-alphaC, and activin A levels in women with idiopathic premature ovarian failure.

2003

Serum inhibin A, inhibin B, pro-alphaC, and activin A levels in 30 women with idiopathic premature ovarian failure (POF), 30 postmenopausal women, and 30 age-matched fertile women were determined. Women with POF showed low levels of inhibin A and inhibin B, but not of activin A, whereas the levels of pro-alphaC were significantly higher than in postmenopausal women. Thus, the circulating level of pro-alphaC could be a marker for assessing residual ovarian function in women with POF.

Sugar moiety has a direct influence on the secondary structure and properties of sturgeon gonadotropin

2009

Sugar moiety has a direct influence on the secondary structure and properties of sturgeon gonadotropin Sturgeon Acipenser güldenstädti Br. gonadotropic hormone (GTH) β-subunit (β-GTH) was selectively chemically deglycosylated (dg) by anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and trifluoromethane sulfonic acid. Two dgβ-GTH molecular forms retaining 35% (dgβ-GTH1) and 13% (dgβ-GTH2) of their initial carbohydrates were obtained. Investigation of the reassociated α-β hybrid dimers (recombinants) α-GTH+dgβ-GTH1 and α-GTH+dgβ-GTH2 showed that the immunoreactivity with antiserum raised against standard GTH dropped by 22.5%. Hybrid dimers were recognised by the standard GTH antibodies, which indicated that the s…

Cardiac changes in subclinical and overt hyperthyroid women: retrospective study

2003

This retrospective and descriptive 4-year study was undertaken to describe cardiac changes in subclinical and overt hyperthyroidism. We revised the charts of 386 consecutive cardiopathic women whose blood samples were referred to the Radioimmunoassay Laboratory to evaluate thyroid function from 1 January 1997 through 31 December 2000.After excluding women because euthyroid or hypothyroid, or taking amiodarone and women with hypertension, rheumatic disease, myocardial infarction, a total of 31 hyperthyroid women were thus selected for the study: 19 with subclinical hyperthyroidism and 12 with overt hyperthyroidism. The prevalence of atrial fibrillation did not differ between subclinical (48%)…

Memory for time intervals is impaired in left hemi-Parkinson patients.

2004

The basal ganglia have been proposed as one of the neural correlates of timekeeping functions. Both encoding and memory retrieval components for time perception are impaired in Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of our study was to investigate in hemi-Parkinsonian patients the existence of a specific alteration in memory for time depending on the affected side, to better understand the contribution of the left or right basal ganglia circuits in different components of time perception. Right and left hemi-PD patients performed a time reproduction task in which they were required to reproduce in the same session short (5 s) and long (15 s) time intervals, in off- and on-therapy condition. Whil…

Pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone action with preserved circadian rhythm of thyrotropin in a postmenopausal woman.

1992

We assessed the 24-h behavior of circulating TSH and the dopaminergic control on TSH release in a postmenopausal woman, who had elevated levels of serum thyroid hormones and an inappropriately high concentration of serum TSH, indicating pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone action. The patient was found to have a daily profile of serum TSH similar to that of normal subjects, except for the persistently elevated 24 h levels, suggesting that alterations in thyroid hormone negative feedback control did not affect substantially circadian TSH rhythm. The acute administration of a dopamine antagonist drug (metoclopramide) resulted in a markedly elevated peak of serum TSH, similar both in the mo…

The LANN technique to reduce postoperative functional morbidity in laparoscopic radical pelvic surgery

2005

BACKGROUND: We investigated the feasibility and advantages of introducing Laparoscopic Neuro-Navigation (LANN) into the field of laparoscopic gynecologic radical pelvic surgery. STUDY DESIGN: In a prospective pilot study, 261 consecutive patients underwent laparoscopic radical pelvic surgery for cervical cancer or deep infiltrating endometriosis of the parametria. During the procedure, dissection and electrostimulation, and consequently, sparing of the pelvic parasympathetic nerves by transection of the parametria, were performed. Postoperative bladder dysfunction was documented. RESULTS: Laparoscopic dissection and electrostimulation of the pelvic splanchnic nerves were feasible in all pat…

Katalizatory i proces koordynacyjnej polimeryzacji etylenu - eksperyment i teoria

2004

Badania eksperymentalne i teoretyczne koordynacyjnej polimeryzacji etylenu przeprowadzono wobec katalizatorów otrzymanych z prekursorów - kompleksów halogenków Ti, Zr, Hf, V z organicznymi zasadami Lewisa, nośnika magnezowego [MgCl2(THF)2] i związków glinoorganicznych. Określono zależnosć pomiędzy rodzajem halogenków w prekursorze a aktywnością katalizatora wanadowego. Ustalono profile energetyczne reakcji insercji i terminacji (beta-eliminacji) oraz przeniesienia atomu wodoru beta. Obliczone wartości barier insercji, a także energii wiązania etylenu do centrum aktywnego dobrze korelują z wynikami polimeryzacji. Stwierdzono występowanie w centrach aktywnych oddziaływań agostycznych, które o…
