Phylogeny and morphology of Hirsutella tunicata sp. nov. (Ophiocordycipitaceae), a novel mite parasite from Peru

2013

Abstract A new species of Hirsutella was isolated from unidentified mites on Petri plates inoculated with soil and root fragments collected from asparagus rhizosphere at Viru, Northern Peru. The fungus differs from other Hirsutella species by an envelope surrounding the conidium, conidia dimension and DNA sequences. In PDA cultures, the mycelium produced aerial hyphae with conidiogenous cells mainly at right angles, occasionally showing a secondary conidiophore. The solitary conidia are cymbiform, slightly apiculate, 5.0–6.0 × 3.0–4.0 μm. Phylogenetic analyses with partial rRNA and β-tubulin gene sequences confirmed the fungus as an Hirsutella (Ophiocordycipitaceae). Closest species shown b…

Effects of feeding diets supplemented with fungus myceliated grains on some production, health and oxidation traits of dairy ewes.

2017

The beneficial properties of mushrooms bioactive compounds indicate their potential use as performance enhancing natural additive for livestock animals. This paper reports the preliminary results of a research on the effects of diets supplemented with fungus myceliated grains (FMG) to lactating ewes in terms of intestinal parasites control, milk production and cheese oxidative stability. During 8 weeks, 21 ewes were divided into 3 groups fed with hay ad libitum and 1.3 kg/day per head of one of 3 concentrates with 0, 10 or 20% of FMG. In front of analogous DM and nutrients intake, the ewes fed FMG at higher levels showed a reduction of intestinal parasite infection, a tendency to improve mi…

Botrytis cinerea strains infecting grapevine and tomato display contrasted repertoires of accessory chromosomes, transposons and small RNAs

2022

Botrytis cinerea stands out for having a wide host range and is qualified as generalist.Nevertheless, recent studies suggest that it actually corresponds to co-existing populationsthat show a certain level of host specialization, as described for the French populations T andG1, specialized on tomato and grapevine, respectively (Mercier et al., 2019, Env. Microbiol.21, 4808–21; Mercier et al., 2021 Phytopathology, 111,2355-66).What are the molecular determinants responsible for such host-specialization? PreviousIllumina sequencing data revealed genes under positive selection encoding cellulases, pectinases and enzymes involved in the oxidative stress response suggesting that theseactivities m…

Contribution of proteomics to arbuscular mycorrhiza in Medicago truncatula

2007

International audience; Because proteins are key effectors of plant responses to environmental cues including recognition, signalling, transport and defence reactions, main interest has been paid to characterize those involved in the establishment and functioning of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis. In our group, the setting up of high throughput proteomic techniques on the model species, Medicago truncatula, is providing step-by-step a large-scale analysis of AM symbiosis-related proteins. Depending on the symbiotic stage targeted and on the abundance of mycorrhizal material, different proteomic strategies that can be combined with other large-scale approaches (transcriptomic and meta…

Two new metabolites from the endophytic fungus Xylaria sp. isolated from the medicinal plant Curcuma xanthorrhiza

2015

Abstract The endophytic fungus Xylaria sp. was isolated from healthy leaves of Curcuma xanthorrhiza, collected on the island of Timor, Indonesia. Two new compounds (1 and 2), together with the known resacetophenone (3), were isolated and their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive NMR and mass spectral analyses. The enantiomers of rac-1 were separated by chiral HPLC and their HPLC-ECD spectra were recorded to determine the absolute configuration on the basis of TDDFT-ECD calculations. The (3R,3aR, 9aR) absolute configuration of the optically active 2 was established by comparing the experimental solution ECD spectrum with the TDDFT ones computed for the gas phase and solu…

Molecular and taxonomic characterization of a endophytic fungus isolated from Helleborus bocconei subsp. intermedius (Ranunculaceae)

2014

A non-sporulating fungus was isolated from different organs of Helleborus bocconei subsp. intermedius (Ranunculaceae) endemic to southern Italy and Sicily, known for the traditional use of dried roots in the treatment of lung diseases of cattle and horses. Molecular characterization of endophytic fungus based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the rRNA gene sequences was done. The DNA sequence of full length ITS region of the studied fungus was a 100% match to that of Chaetomium strumarium strain dH 21642 (GenBank accession number JX280851.1). The morphological characters of colony and mycelium of this microfungus are reported here.
