Prioritization of Alternatives with AHP Plus Response Latency and Web Surveys
2013
Purpose: Overcome some drawbacks of the widely applied Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) related to the use of a rating scale for respondent’s judgments and propose a new method to prioritize alternatives based on web surveys. Methodology/Approach: We use the response latency, i.e. the time taken to make a decision, to replace the rating scale in the pairwise comparisons which is a fundamental part of the AHP procedure. A method combining the AHP with a mathematical model for the response latency is proposed in the paper. Findings: Eliminating the rating scale and leaving only the “take the best” task alleviates the respondent and makes the survey much faster and intuitive. Moreover the re…

The hierarchy of needs for user experiences in virtual reality
2021
Virtual reality (VR) is rapidly becoming more widely adopted by various industries, and virtual content is just as rapidly becoming available for consumers. However, there is a lack of guidelines and standards for VR content to be held to in terms of experiential design. Because VR is a relatively new media form for consumers, there is a high risk of user attrition due to the novelty of the service. Therefore, if the first experience of the technology is with poorly made content, users will be much less likely to use VR again. Therefore, as various industries and organizations digitalize and adopt emerging technology such as VR, great care should be given to the way the virtual content and …
Conception de documents numériques : Parcours méthodologique
2009
There is a strong social demand for studies of digital document. Yet our models of society and education are struggling to integrate issues related to these types of documents. However, the subject is less than half a century old, and so it is hardly surprising that the writing and training practices are just being developed. Like the book, the digital document involves many different skills and techniques in its development. The list of jobs tends to grow steadily: ergonomists, referencing specialists, information architects, programmers, designers, integrators ... It is therefore difficult to have a global view on all this know-how and the related methodologies. This special edition seeks…
2. Stato dell’arte e riferime…
Clean Agent Selection Approached by Fuzzy TOPSIS Decision-Making Method
2008
Abstract. It is well known that halons are ozone-depleting substances and their release into the atmosphere has contributed in the last decades to the reduction in the ozone layer. In consequence to the Montreal Protocol, an international agreement designed to gradually eliminate the use of such substances, fire protection industry researchers faced the challenge of finding effective solutions to replace halon extinguishers. This research aims to provide a method to support the decision maker in the selection of the most suitable extinguisher substance for a specific application. According to such framework, a set of quantitative and qualitative criteria has been established in the decision…
The relationship of collective creativity with managerial work and workplace climate in hierarchical and less hierarchical organizations
2023
Collective creativity, managerial work, and workplace climate can influence innovation, organizational learning, and productivity at work. However, little empirical research has examined these factors in everyday work, especially in relation to organizational hierarchies. This study explores the relationships among collective creativity, managerial work, and workplace climate in hierarchical and less hierarchical organizations. A quantitative empirical analysis was conducted using data from a survey of 265 respondents from six Finnish organizations. The findings show that managerial work and workplace climate that focus on building and maintaining trust and highlight empathy, fairness and e…
Sustainable Physical Activity Programs for Young Elderly : A Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process Approach
2020
Physical activity (PA) programs are useful to help young elderly stay in good shape for their senior years. These programs should be sustainable, as this would keep the users active for months and years. A PA program should build on activities that users find meaningful and/or best suited for their history of sports and exercise as well as their present physical capacity. The challenge is to make the best selection from a (long) list of possible activities. We worked out a method to help young elderly to build a sustainable PA program from a set of activities that experts have identified as contributing to health and fitness among young elderly. The method builds on the Analytical Hierarchy…
