Validation of a multi-residue UHPLC-HRMS method for antibiotics screening in milk, fresh cheese, and whey
2022
Abstract The aim of this study was to develop a UHPLC–HRMS methodology as a suitable tool for the screening of antibiotics in milk, fresh cheese, and whey. Compounds were analysed using an Orbitrap Exactive™ analyser working at a resolving power of 50,000 FWHM in full scan, both in positive and negative electrospray ionization mode, and a high mass accuracy (
Ag44(SeR)30: A Hollow Cage Silver Cluster with Selenolate Protection.
2015
Selenolate protected, stable and atomically precise, hollow silver cluster was synthesized using solid state as well as solution state routes. The optical absorption spectrum shows multiple and sharp features similar to the thiolated Ag44 cluster, Ag44(SR)30 whose experimental structure was reported recently. High-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESI MS) shows well-defined molecular ion features with two, three, and four ions with isotopic resolution, due to Ag44(SePh) 30. Additional characterization with diverse tools confirmed the composition. The closed-shell 18 electron superatom electronic structure, analogous to Ag44(SR)30 stabilizes the dodecahedral cage with a…
Performance of a high repetition pulse rate laser system for in-gas-jet laser ionization studies with the Leuven laser ion source @ LISOL
2012
The Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line (LISOL) facility at the Cyclotron Research Center (CRC) Louvain-la-Neuve; The laser ionization efficiency of the Leuven gas cell-based laser ion source was investigated under on- and off-line conditions using two distinctly different laser setups: a low-repetition rate dye laser system and a high-repetition rate Ti:sapphire laser system. A systematic study of the ion signal dependence on repetition rate and laser pulse energy was performed in off-line tests using stable cobalt and copper isotopes. These studies also included in-gas-jet laser spectroscopy measurements on the hyperfine structure of 63Cu. A final run under on-line conditions in which the ra…
The FURIOS laser ion source at IGISOL-4
2013
Abstract The FURIOS laser ion source at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla has been moved to a new location as a part of the IGISOL-4 facility. The laser ion source project had a high priority which allowed the transport of laser light to be optimized during the design phase. The laser resonators have been upgraded with a dual etalon configuration leading to greatly reduced laser linewidth. The transport efficiency of the dual-chamber gas cell has been determined using an alpha recoil source, with efficiencies ranging from a few percent in the beam interaction chamber to nearly 20% in the ionization chamber. In addition, we present recent results from the re-commissio…
A compact apparatus for mass selective resonance ionization spectroscopy in a buffer gas cell
1997
Abstract An ultra-sensitive laser spectroscopic method for the investigation of transuranium nuclides has been developed based on resonance ionization in an argon buffer gas cell. This method has been combined with ion-guide extraction and mass selective direct detection of the resonantly ionized atoms. Using argon as a buffer gas, recoils of fusion reactions can be thermalized even at low pressure. The differential pumping system consists of only one roots pump and two turbo molecular pumps. The set-up has been tested with 243 Am evaporated from a filament located inside the optical gas cell. Resonance ionization is performed using a two-step excitation with an excimer-dye-laser combinatio…
Development of a sequential data correction method for isotope ratio analysis by resonance ionization mass spectrometry
2015
A sequential data correction method using several experimental parameters of pulsed resonance ionization mass spectrometry was developed to reduce mass discrimination effects for isotope ratio analysis as well as fluctuations in the ion count rate. This correction method was applied to isotope ratio determination of stable titanium isotopes using a two-step, single color ionization scheme. A significant improvement of the precision of the measured isotopic ratio of stable titanium isotopes was demonstrated after correction with a parameter set consisting of laser power, atmospheric pressure, and laser frequency.
Laser resonance ionization spectroscopy on lutetium for the MEDICIS project
2017
The MEDICIS-PROMED Innovative Training Network under the Horizon 2020 EU program aims to establish a network of early stage researchers, involving scientific exchange and active cooperation between leading European research institutions, universities, hospitals, and industry. Primary scientific goal is the purpose of providing and testing novel radioisotopes for nuclear medical imaging and radionuclide therapy. Within a closely linked project at CERN, a dedicated electromagnetic mass separator system is presently under installation for production of innovative radiopharmaceutical isotopes at the new CERN-MEDICIS laboratory, directly adjacent to the existing CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion beam …
Selective laser ionization of radioactive Ni-isotopes
1997
Abstract A chemically selective laser ion source based on resonance ionization of atoms in a hot cavity has been applied in the study of Ni-isotopes at the CERN-ISOLDE on-line isotope separator. Laser ionization enhanced the yields of long-lived Ni-isotopes almost four orders of magnitude when compared to the yields obtained with the surface ionization mode of the source. As a result, high yields of long-lived Ni-isotopes were obtained. Separation efficiencies of 0.3 and 0.8% were obtained for Ni produced in uranium-carbide, produced from uranium-di-pthalocyanine, and Ta-foil targets, respectively. Ni was found to be released very slowly from the present target and ion source combination.
First Determination of the Ionization Potential of Actinium and First Observation of Optical Transitions in Ferminm
2002
For the determination of the first ionization potential of actinium, 227Ac was electrodeposited on a Ta backing and covered with ~1 μm Zr. From this filament, Ac atoms were evaporated at ≥ 1250 °C. By resonant excitation with UV light of 388.67 nm and subsequent excitation with light of ca. 568 nm, Ac was ionized in an external electrical field. By determining the ionization thresholds as a function of the electrical field strength and by extrapolation to zero field strength, the first ionization potential of 43398(3) cm−1 = 5.3807(3) eV was measured.About 1 ng of 255Fm, half life 20.1 h, was prepared at ORNL by milking from 255Es produced in the High Flux Isotope Reactor and shipped to Mai…
Time profiles of ions produced in a hot-cavity resonant ionization laser ion source
2011
Abstract The time profiles of Cu, Sn, and Ni ions extracted from a hot-cavity resonant ionization laser ion source are investigated. The ions are produced in the ion source by three-photon resonant ionization with pulsed Ti:Sapphire lasers. Measurements show that the time spread of these ions generated within laser pulses of about 30 ns duration could be larger than 100 μs when the ions are extracted from the ion source. A one-dimensional ion-transport model using the Monte Carlo method is developed to simulate the time dependence of the ion pulses. The prediction of the model agrees reasonably well with the experimental data. To reproduce the observed ion time profiles, we find it necessar…
