A Design-Oriented Analysis of Multimodality in English as a Foreign Language

This empirical article investigates multimodality in English as a foreign language, both as seen in the use of multimodal texts as artefacts and pedagogical texts for learning, and through an analysis of the multimodal learning designs. We present observations from a year 10 classroom in Norway that worked with the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie, 2007). We explore a four-week teaching sequence, asking how different modes were involved when the educator designed literacy events around the novel, and how multimodality is present in the students’ meaning making. Developing and Implementing a Global Citizenship Based Curriculum

This article describes the theory and practical application of developing a global citizenship education curriculum at the University of Eastern Finland’s (UEF) Teacher Training Schools through a joint project between the schools and UEF School of Applied Educational Science and Teacher Education. The project From the School-path to the Global Citizen’s Highway was started in March of 2021 and is planned to continue through the end of 2022. It is funded by UEF and the Finnish National Agency for Education. Language awareness and global citizenship education have been at the core of the project. nonPeerReviewed

Les reflexions sobre innovació en educació lingüística que es desgranen en aquest article estan directament extretes de la meva experiència acadèmica, curta però intensa, durant el treball desenvolupat amb el meu alumnat de l'especialitat de Llengües i Literatures del Màster en Professorat d'Educació Secundària en l'assignatura comuna als itineraris de les diferents procedències filològiques anomenada Innovació docent i iniciació a la investigació educativa. Towards a fun and playful model for young children's foreign language learning

This thesis proposes a model for young children's foreign language learning with a focus on fun and playfulness as well as emotional needs. The model is based on a wide range of literature on children's development, education, and foreign language learning specifically. Foreign language teachers are surveyed to discover their current practices. This data is analysed and compared to the proposed model. The study finds many teachers already follow many of the principles of the proposed model in their everyday practice. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zweryfikowanie, w jaki sposób autorzy podręczników szkolnych proponują kształcić umiejętność słuchania na lekcjach języka polskiego. Autorka po omówieniu specyfiki słuchania w komunikacji interpersonalnej oraz szczegółowych sprawności percepcyjnych, wyznacza cele doskonalenia słuchowego odbioru w edukacji polonistycznej. Następnie przedstawia analizę zadań dydaktycznych sklasyfikowanych ze względu na rozwijaną sprawność percepcyjną. Artykuł kończy się ukazaniem modelu kształcenia umiejętności słuchania wyłaniającego się z wybranych podręczników szkolnych.

The article is a part of the discussion on language education in L1 in a modern school. The vision presented in it is based on poststructuralist linguistic concepts, in which language is perceived in a non-systemic way, giving it a humanistic, anthropological-subjective, and cognitive dimension. Foreign language anxiety : the case of young learners of English in Swedish primary classrooms

Although foreign language anxiety is a widely studied construct assumed to develop from negative experiences of language instruction, few researchers have focused on young learners in this regard. This multiple case study investigates levels and triggers of language anxiety in Swedish primary classrooms under rather favorable learning conditions with a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere, and without formal knowledge requirements or grades.
