Subjective health literacy among school-aged children

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore Finnish adolescents’ subjective health literacy (HL) in association to school achievement, learning difficulties, educational aspirations, and family affluence. Design/methodology/approach Nationally representative data were collected in Finland as a part of the international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study. The respondents consisted in total of 3,833 adolescents (7th and 9th graders) from 359 schools. The Health Literacy for School-aged Children instrument was applied to measure adolescents’ subjective HL, while the Family Affluence Scale was used to measure adolescents’ socioeconomic status. Oprócz leksyki języka fachowego, składnia jest jednym z czynników najbardziej odróżniających go od tekstów tzw. języka ogólnego. Duże nasycenie terminologią, użycie wyrażeń nominalnych i inne charakterystyczne dla języka fachowego cechy sprawiają, że jest odbierany jako bardziej konkretny, precyzyjny i ekonomiczny. W rozdziale podjęto próbę kompaktowej prezentacji specyfiki składni niemieckojęzycznych tekstów fachowych i najważniejszych tendencji w niej obserwowanych. This dissertation focuses on Finnish language learning opportunities in cleaning work, which is the most common job for immigrants in Finland. The study investigates what opportunities and constraints there are for Finnish language learning in cleaning work, how a work community supports language learning, and what factors facilitate or constrain investment in language learning at work. Language learning opportunities are explored from an ecological approach as affordances – the reciprocal relations between an individual and his/her social and physical environment. Vžyvannja form v Ukrajini i na Ukrajini u periodyčnych vydannjach rusyniv Bačky i Sremu u mižvojennyj period

This paper analyzes the use of the preposition u and na in locative constructions with the term Ukraine in the language of Rusyns from Bačka and Syrmia in the 20-30s of the XX century. The following periodicals were taken into consideration: the newspaper “Ruski Novini” of the Rusyns Society for Education and the newspaper “Zarja” and “Kalendar - Zarja” of the Cultural and Educational Union of the Rusyns of Yugoslavia. The use of both prepositions before the specified term is attested, and that is in line with the Ukrainian linguistic tradition. The use of these prepositions in locative constructions with terms Podkarpatska Rus, Karpatska Ukrajina and Hornitsa is also considered.

This dissertation focuses on the development of the agency and professional Finnish language skills of international nursing students studying in an English-medium degree program in Finland. The study draws on sociocognitive and ecological perspectives to examine the social nature of language and its use. This ethnographic theoretical-methodological orientation helps to analyze both subjectively experienced and collectively emergent factors. Elementos ideológicos en las unidades fraseológicas con la palabra mujer en el Diccionario académico en los siglos XVIII y XIX

This paper explores ideological elements regarding gender in phraseological units with the word mujer(‘woman’) in the different editions of the dictionarypublished by Real Academia Española during the 18th and the 19th centuries. First, the ideological content in the phraseological units themselves is analyzed. Second, phenomena related to subjectivity in the definitions are analyzed: this evidences subjectivity not only in the different phraseological units presented in the dictionary, but also in the discourse of the academics.
