The impact of humic and fulvic acids on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes: the ESR method

This paper presents the results of research on the influence of two fractions of humic substances (HS): fulvic acids (FA) and humic acids (HA), as a function of concentration, on the liposome membranes formed from egg yolk lecithin (EYL). The concentration of HS in relation to EYL changed from 0% to 10% by weight. The influence of HS on various areas of membranes: interphase water-lipid, in the lipid layer just below the polar part of the membrane and in the middle of the lipid bilayer, was investigated by different spin labels (TEMPO, DOXYL 5, DOXYL 16). Atomic layer deposition of lithium containing thin films

Five different lithium containing compounds, all representing different chemical systems, were studied in order to deposit lithium containing films by atomic layer deposition ALD. The studied compounds were a lithium β-diketonate Li(thd) (thd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate), a lithium alkoxide LiOtBu (OtBu = tert-butoxide), a lithium cyclopentadienyl LiCp (Cp = cyclopentadienyl), a lithium alkyl n-butyllithium, and a lithium amide lithium dicyclohexylamide. A 2,3,4-tri-O-pivaloylated beta-D-galactopyranosyl azide bearing a hydroxy-functionalized spacer unit at the C-6 position of the galactose was synthesized and immobilized on the solid phase by using a polymer-bound chlorosilane. The azide was reduced to the corresponding galactopyranosylamine, which served as a versatile chiral auxiliary in highly diastereoselective Ugi four-component condensation reactions at ambient temperature. Inulin has been derivatized with methacrylic anhydride (MA) and succinic anhydride (SA) to obtain a methacrylated/succinilated derivative (INU-MA-SA) able to produce a pH sensitive hydrogel after UV irradiation. The hydrogel was characterized and loaded with diflunisal (10.4, 17 and 24%, w/w) chosen as a model drug. [EN] A hybrid magnetic multilayer material of micrometric size, with highly crystalline hexagonal crystals consisting of CoAl-LDH ferromagnetic layers intercalated with thermoresponsive 4-(4-anilinophenylazo)benzenesulfonate (AO5) molecules diluted (ratio 9 : 1) with a flexible sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) surfactant has been obtained. The resulting material exhibits thermochromism attributable to the isomerization between the azo (prevalent at room temperature) and the hydrazone (favoured at higher temperatures) tautomers, leading to a thermomechanical response. Interface magnetization of ultrathin epitaxial Co2FeSi(110)/Al2O3films

Element-specific magnetic properties of ultrathin epitaxial Co2FeSi(110) films were measured using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). The epitaxial Heusler films were grown by RF magnetron sputtering on substrates. The magnetization of thicker films as determined by XMCD is smaller than expected for a half-metallic material. In addition, the magnetization decreases considerably for films thinner than 10 nm. The thickness dependence of the magnetic moment can be described by introducing a certain number of dead layers representing a deficiency of magnetization at the interfaces. Synaptic ribbons, spheres and intermediate structures in the developing rat retina

The present study was conducted to investigate the qualitative and quantitative development of synaptic bodies in retinae of Wistar rats during postnatal days 4-28. In addition, the effects of different light regimens and of eye pigmentation on SB numbers were studied. Synaptic bodies were counted and measured in the outer plexiform layer of retinal tissue fixed and processed by routine electron microscopical techniques. At postnatal days 4 and 5, retinae showed only few synaptic bodies. The main numerical development of synaptic bodies occurred between postnatal days 4 and 9, numbers remaining more or less constant thereafter. Abstract Horizontal cells of the human retina contain unique tubular organelles that have a diameter which is about 10 times larger than that of microtubules (∼230 nm). These macrotubuli in most cases form regular aggregates. Therefore we propose to introduce them as Macrotubuli aggregati in the Terminologia histologica. Tomographic investigation of the structures revealed that the walls of the tubules most probably consist of intermediate filaments running nearly parallel to each other and show somewhat regularly attached ribosomes on their inner and also outer surface.
