Probabilistic Evaluation of the Adaptation Time for Structures under Seismic Loads

Abstract In this paper, a probabilistic approach for the evaluation of the adaptation time for elastic perfectly plastic frames is proposed. The considered load history acting on the structure is defined as a suitable combination of quasi-statical loads and seismic actions. The proposed approach utilizes the Monte Carlo method in order to generate a suitable large number of seismic acceleration histories and for each one the related load combination is defined. Comparing proton momentum distributions in A = 2 and 3 nuclei via 2H 3H and 3He (e,e′p) measurements

We report the first measurement of the $(e,e'p)$ reaction cross-section ratios for Helium-3 ($^3$He), Tritium ($^3$H), and Deuterium ($d$). The measurement covered a missing momentum range of $40 \le p_{miss} \le 550$ MeV$/c$, at large momentum transfer ($\langle Q^2 \rangle \approx 1.9$ (GeV$/c$)$^2$) and $x_B>1$, which minimized contributions from non quasi-elastic (QE) reaction mechanisms. The data is compared with plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) calculations using realistic spectral functions and momentum distributions. The measured and PWIA-calculated cross-section ratios for $^3$He$/d$ and $^3$H$/d$ extend to just above the typical nucleon Fermi-momentum ($k_F \approx 250$ …
Profit vs morality: how unfair is labor market discrimination? Results from a survey experiment

Using an original survey-experimental protocol, we study the normative acceptability of the trade-off between immoral profit (discrimination) and costly morality (non-discrimination). We test the causal influence of three factors: i) the origin of discrimination, ii) the steepness of the morality/profit trade-off and iii) anti-discriminatory moral injunctions. Contrasting with past experimental and attitudinal studies, we find that a significant minority of respondents believe that labor market discrimination is acceptable when morality results in profit loss. Tas ir izaicinājums skolotājiem, lai nodrošinātu iespējas skolēniem gūt reāla grupu darba pieredzi prasmju attīstībai. Lai attīstītu skolēnu sadarbības prasmes, diplomdarba autores pētījumā izmantoja starpskolu projekta metodi. Gadījuma pētījums tika veikts, iesaistot 5. klases skolēnus no divām reģiona skolām. A Hundred Years of the Project Method in Poland

The text presents the development of the project method in Polish education throughout the last century. The project method was introduced in Poland afiter regaining independence, and (1918-1939) it was implemented during the inter-war period in some schools both in urban and rural environments. Nevertheless, the method was at that time treated as a pedagogical novelty and experiment rather than a natural part of school life. After 1945, education, as other aspects of socio-political life, was influenced by the communist propaganda, and the project method supporting autonomy, democracy and empowerment was not promoted as a valuable educational approach.
