Reelin and CXCL12 regulate distinct migratory behaviors during the development of the dopaminergic system.

2014

The proper functioning of the dopaminergic system requires the coordinated formation of projections extending from dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN), ventral tegmental area (VTA) and retrorubral field to a wide array of forebrain targets including the striatum, nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex. The mechanisms controlling the assembly of these distinct dopaminergic cell clusters are not well understood. Here, we have investigated in detail the migratory behavior of dopaminergic neurons giving rise to either the SN or the medial VTA using genetic inducible fate mapping, ultramicroscopy, time-lapse imaging, slice culture and analysis of mouse mutants. We demonstrate that…

Molecular mode-coupling theory applied to a liquid of diatomic molecules

2000

We study the molecular mode coupling theory for a liquid of diatomic molecules. The equations for the critical tensorial nonergodicity parameters ${\bf F}_{ll'}^m(q)$ and the critical amplitudes of the $\beta$ - relaxation ${\bf H}_{ll'}^m(q)$ are solved up to a cut off $l_{co}$ = 2 without any further approximations. Here $l,m$ are indices of spherical harmonics. Contrary to previous studies, where additional approximations were applied, we find in agreement with simulations, that all molecular degrees of freedom vitrify at a single temperature $T_c$. The theoretical results for the non ergodicity parameters and the critical amplitudes are compared with those from simulations. The qualitat…

Metabolomic Analysis of the Effect of Postnatal Hypoxia on the Retina in a Newly Born Piglet Model

2013

The availability of reliable biomarkers of brain injury secondary to birth asphyxia could substantially improve clinical grading, therapeutic intervention strategies, and prognosis. In this study, changes in the metabolome of retinal tissue caused by profound hypoxia in an established neonatal piglet model were investigated using an ultra performance liquid chromatography - quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOFMS) untargeted metabolomic approach, which included Partial Least Squares - Discriminant Analysis (PLSDA) multivariate data analysis. The initial identification of a set of discriminant metabolites from UPLC-QTOFMS data was confirmed by target UPLC-MS/MS and allowed t…

ChemInform Abstract: Chemical and Spectroscopical Properties of Medium Sized trans- and cis- Bicyclo(n.1.0)alk-2-ynes.

2010

Chemical and spectroscopical properties of cis- and trans-cyclopropano-anellated cycloalkynes of medium ring size are investigated and compared with results from force field calculations. IR and 13C-NMR data of the alkynes reflect the deformation of the triple bond due to ring strain. Parallel to bending the reactivity increases with decreasing ring size, the trans fused alkynes prove to be nearly as reactive as the cis fused with a two carbon smaller ring size. The bicycloalkynes are complexed with silver triflate. 13C NMR reveals that the triple bond as well as the cyclopropane serve as ligands.

Asymmetric Allylation/RCM-Mediated Synthesis of Fluorinated Benzo-Fused Bicyclic Homoallylic Amines As Dihydronaphthalene Derivatives

2016

Enantiomerically enriched fluorinated benzo-fused bicyclic homoallylic amities have been synthesized through an asymmetric allylation/ring closing metathesis (RCM) sequence. This sequence has been carried out using alpha-trifluoromethylstyrene derivatives as key intermediates, synthesized by microwave radiation. The great deactivating effect exerted by such substituents has been brought to light by a comparative study.

trans -Lycopene from tomato juice attenuates inflammatory biomarkers in human plasma samples: An intervention trial

2017

cope : To evaluate the effects of carotenoids from tomato juice (TJ) on inflammatory biomarkers, by performing a 4-week dose-response nutritional trial in a population at high cardiovascular risk. Methods and results : An open, prospective, randomized, cross-over, and controlledclinical trial was carried out with 28 volunteers (mean age 69.7 ± 3.1 years; mean BMI 31.5 ± 3.6 kg/m2) at high cardiovascular risk, which were assigned to consume daily for 4 weeks in random order: 200 mL (LD) or 400 mL (HD) of TJ, or water as a control (C), with a 21-day wash-out period between each intervention. Blood samples were collected at baseline (B) and after each intervention. Endpoints included significa…

Ultrafast optics in coherently spinning molecules

2020

This thesis reports on the study of unidirectional rotation of molecules and focuses on the rotational Doppler effect occuring in the course of third-harmonic generation in coherently spinning molecules. The rotational Doppler effect appears when a circularly polarized wave interacts with an anisotropic rotating object. During the interaction, an exchange of angular momentum and energy between the field and the object occurs, leading to a frequency shift of the wave. In this work, the frequency shift of the third-harmonic generated in unidirectionaly rotating molecules has been observed. An anlytical model developped in the mansucript forsees four kinds of frequency shifts depending on the m…

Response of micro- and macrovascular endothelial cells to starch-based fiber meshes for bone tissue engineering.

2006

The establishment of a functional vasculature is as yet an unrealized milestone in bone reconstruction therapy. For this study, fiber-mesh scaffolds obtained from a blend of starch and poly(caprolactone) (SPCL), that have previously been shown to be an excellent material for the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow cells and thereby represent great potential as constructs for bone regeneration, were examined for endothelial cell (EC) compatibility. To be successfully applied in vivo, this tissue engineered construct should also be able to support the growth of ECs in order to facilitate vascularization and therefore assure the viability of the construct upon implantation. The ma…
