Effects of integrating a bioethanol production process to a kraft pulp mill

Abstract The integration of an ethanol production process based on prehydrolysis of softwood chips to a kraft pulp mill is discussed. A simulation model of this biorefinery has been created with WinGEMS simulation software to calculate the mass and energy balances of the biorefinery and to examine the effects of the integration on the operation of the pulp mill. Integrating the prehydrolysis process to the modeled pulp mill producing 1000 Adt/day of pine pulp would increase the wood consumption by 16%. summary — The modern mummies and the inner meaning of the double burial in Mediterranean cultures have long been debated. In this paper we discuss a particular “collection” of ecclesiastical bodies mummifed and displayed in a small mountain town of Sicily Gangi in the Madonie Mountains. The bodies dating back to the nineteenth century mummifed by pouring in the tradition of the time and carefully dressed in robes are exposed in the lower foor of the Chiesa Madre in what the tradition is called “fossa dei parrini” (pit of priests). The mummies unlike other Sicilian and Mediterranean sites are accompanied by commemorative sonnet and death mask made of fnish wax. The primary interest of our study was aimed specifcally at this particular manifestation of the double burial complex which lies in the representation of the face. The work expresses an examination of the concept of death mask in antiquity and leads to the conclusion that the place for its scenic values ritualization should be designed to the ostentation and the consolidation of the image of the Church and of the his power within the small rural society.Settore BIO/08 - Antropologia

Absolute quantification of noncoding RNA by microscale thermophoresis

Abstract Accurate quantification of the copy numbers of noncoding RNA has recently emerged as an urgent problem, with impact on fields such as RNA modification research, tissue differentiation, and others. Herein, we present a hybridization‐based approach that uses microscale thermophoresis (MST) as a very fast and highly precise readout to quantify, for example, single tRNA species with a turnaround time of about one hour. We developed MST to quantify the effect of tRNA toxins and of heat stress and RNA modification on single tRNA species. In questo articolo rispondo alle critiche e ai commenti alla mia ricostruzione della concezione del potere di Michel Foucault proposti da Bruno Celano, José Juan Moreso, Marco Segatti, Alessandro Spena. Mi concentro in particolare sui seguenti aspetti: la connessione fra la nozione foucaultiana di potere e il conflitto; la distinzione fra potere disciplinare, potere governamentale, e potere normativo; la concezione foucaultiana della libertà come autorialità; ciò che Foucault può suggerire riguardo ad alcune “macchie cieche” della teoria del diritto contemporanea.
