Do networks matter? Network involvement and policy learning in Nordic regions

2017

ABSTRACTThe capacities of regions to form networks are an important feature of regional cooperation. This article assesses why Nordic regions engage in network activities and what new organizational patterns of collaboration emerge. It draws on historical data from a 2006–2008 survey of elected regional politicians from the Nordic countries. The article argues that through this process, participation in cross-border networks matters for regional learning as measured by the policy-choices of regions.

The culture in the era of clutural capitlaism: Trends and Controversies

2014

[EN] This article offers a reflection on the way in which the evolution of capitalism towards a cultural capitalism phase is propitiating the emergence of a new regime of production and reception of cultural products. To approach this task it is examined one of the most clearly observable trends in the evolution that western societies have experienced in the past decades, that is, the transformation of the market in the general pattern of the social activities and the entrance of capitalist patterns in the cultural sphere. The article finishes with a critical analysis of the most frequently consequences attributed to the evolution of capitalism in the cultural domain: the degradation of the…

A Portable Dynamic Laser Speckle System for Sensing Long-Term Changes Caused by Treatments in Painting Conservation

2018

[EN] Dynamic laser speckle (DLS) is used as a reliable sensor of activity for all types of materials. Traditional applications are based on high-rate captures (usually greater than 10 frames-per-second, fps). Even for drying processes in conservation treatments, where there is a high level of activity in the first moments after the application and slower activity after some minutes or hours, the process is based on the acquisition of images at a time rate that is the same in moments of high and low activity. In this work, we present an alternative approach to track the drying process of protective layers and other painting conservation processes that take a long time to reduce their levels …

Morphological similarities between DBM and a microeconomic model of sprawl

2010

JEL classification : C61; C63; D62; R21; R40; International audience; We present a model that simulates the growth of a metropolitan area on a 2D lattice. The model is dynamic and based on microeconomics. Households show preferences for nearby open spaces and neighbourhood density. They compete on the land market. They travel along a road network to access the CBD. A planner ensures the connectedness and maintenance of the road network. The spatial pattern of houses, green spaces and road network self-organises, emerging from agents individualistic decisions. We perform several simulations and vary residential preferences. Our results show morphologies and transition phases that are similar…

La place de la viande dans le modèle alimentaire français

2008

The main objective of this article is to examine the consumption of meat in the French dietary pattern. In particular, we attempted to identify the current structure and evolution in the consumption of meat-based products, the sociological distribution of the meat-based consumption, and the culinary systems of food association/substitution in which it occurs. In this aim, we analyzed the individual data of consumption stemming from nutritional surveys performed by the CRÉDOC in 1999 and 2003, as well as the recent European data about the national indigenous consumption of meats. Both samples included 1,500 representative individuals of the French adult population (quota method) who reported…

Digital holographic microscopy with pure-optical spherical phase compensation

2011

Telecentric architecture is proposed for circumventing, by the pure-optical method, the residual parabolic phase distortion inherent to standard configuration of digital holographic microscopy. This optical circumvention produces several important advantages. One is that there is no need for computer compensation of the parabolic phase during the phase map recovering procedure. The other is that in off-axis configuration, the spatial frequency useful domain is enlarged. The validity of the method is demonstrated by performing quantitative measurement of depth differences with high axial resolution. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

FRIPON: a worldwide network to track incoming meteoroids

2020

Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receiver…

Seasonal variability of radiation tide in Gulf of Riga

2020

Diurnal oscillations of water level in Gulf of Riga are considered. It was found that there is distinct daily pattern of diurnal oscillations in certain seasons. The role of sea breeze, gravitational tides and atmospheric pressure gradient are analysed. The interference of the first two effects provide the dominant role in diurnal oscillations. The effect of gravitational tides is described both with sole tidal forcing and also in real case with atmospheric forcing and stratification. The yearly variation of the declination of the Sun and stratification leads to seasonal intensification of gravitational tides in Gulf of Riga. Correlation between gravitational tide of the Sun with its radiat…

Reverse-Safe Text Indexing

2021

We introduce the notion of reverse-safe data structures. These are data structures that prevent the reconstruction of the data they encode (i.e., they cannot be easily reversed). A data structure D is called z - reverse-safe when there exist at least z datasets with the same set of answers as the ones stored by D . The main challenge is to ensure that D stores as many answers to useful queries as possible, is constructed efficiently, and has size close to the size of the original dataset it encodes. Given a text of length n and an integer z , we propose an algorithm that constructs a z -reverse-safe data structure ( z -RSDS) that has size O(n) and answers decision and counting pattern matc…
