Defining Interaction Design Patterns to Extract Knowledge from Big Data

2018

[EN] The Big Data domain offers valuable opportunities to gain valuable knowledge. The User Interface (UI), the place where the user interacts to extract knowledge from data, must be adapted to address the domain complexities. Designing UIs for Big Data becomes a challenge that involves identifying and designing the user-data interaction implicated in the knowledge extraction. To design such an interaction, one widely used approach is design patterns. Design Patterns describe solutions to common interaction design problems. This paper proposes a set of patterns to design UIs aimed at extracting knowledge from the Big Data systems data conceptual schemas. As a practical example, we apply the…

Human computer interactive future framework: automation of human interaction and interfaces

2020

Contemporary era technological improvements and social living urges the advancement of technological implementations and to create an environment for automation of interaction platform. The sole aim being the reduction of labour work or human effort and optimising the throughput gained. The future generation is expecting such developments in current systems, but none can elucidate the particular area of improvements to be done for future models. In order to cater such requirements, a HCI future framework for automating the interaction and interfaces is proposed. The framework is divided into ten co-frames of interfaces with further classifications for facilitating the understanding of indiv…

New method for remote and repeatable monitoring of intraocular pressure variations

2014

We present initial steps toward a new measurement device enabling high-precision, noncontact remote and repeatable monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP)-based on an innovative measurement principle. Using only a camera and a laser source, the device measures IOP by tracking the secondary speckle pattern trajectories produced by the reflection of an illuminating laser beam from the iris or the sclera. The device was tested on rabbit eyes using two different methods to modify IOP: via an infusion bag and via mechanical pressure. In both cases, the eyes were stimulated with increasing and decreasing ramps of the IOP. As IOP variations changed the speckle distributions reflected back from th…

Large diurnal variation of intraocular pressure in open angle glaucoma in subjects with type A behaviour pattern

2014

Aim : To evaluate the possible causes of the greater perimetric damage found in OAG subjects with type A behaviour and the possible role of psycho-physiological stress. Materials and methods : 80 patients with OAG, 44 women and 36 men, 40 with type A behaviour and 40 with type B studied with the Type A/B Personality Questionnaire (A modified version of the Jenkins Activity Survey), underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination consisting of bio-microscopy, tonometry and daily tonometric curve, examination of the visual field by means of Octopus 1-2-3 computerised perimeter and its assessment with the Glaucoma Staging System 2 (GSS2), morphological monitoring of the Retinal Nerve Fibre Lay…

Heritability of Intraocular Pressure in Older Female Twins

2006

Purpose To examine the heritability of intraocular pressure (IOP) among older women not diagnosed as having glaucoma. Design Cross-sectional twin study. Participants 94 monozygotic (MZ) and 96 dizygotic (DZ) female twin pairs aged 63–76 years and not diagnosed as having glaucoma. Methods Intraocular pressure was measured using a noncontact tonometer. The contributions of genetic and environmental factors to individual differences in IOP were estimated by applying an independent pathway model to twin data. Main Outcome Measures Contribution of genetic and environmental effects to the variation in IOP among MZ and DZ twins. Results Mean IOP of the study population was 14.1 mmHg (± standard de…

Typology of pentad circulation anomalies over the Eastern Africa - Western Indian Ocean region, and their relationship with rainfall

2005

International audience; The aim of this study was to classify the most frequently observed atmospheric circula- tion anomaly patterns in eastern Africa and the adjacent Indian Ocean. As an example of the useful- ness of such a classification, the second objective was to test whether these patterns account for intraseasonal rainfall anomalies in the region. A partitioning algorithm, known as dynamical cluster analysis, was therefore applied to the zonal (U)and meridional (V)components of the wind anom- alies, obtained from the NCEP-NCAR Reanalysis R-2 at the pentad (5 d) timescale. The 3 geopoten- tial levels 850, 700 and 200 hPa were combined. Focus is on the transition seasons (March to Ma…

From the banks of Upper Tigris River to the Zagros Highlands. The Tübingen Eastern Ḫabur Archaeological Survey. Trial season 2013

2016

After decades of strife and unrest, during which Northern Iraq remained closed to the outside world, a new era of international scientific enterprise has begun in this region thanks to the recent democratic and civil upturn and its subsequent economic resurgence. In the last few years, together with the restoration and refurbishment of historical monuments, there has also been a spread of new archaeological undertakings in the form of surveys and excavations, the quality and quantity of which is fully shown in the present volume. A Tübingen University research project was initiated in the northernmost part of Iraqi-Kurdistan, in the province of Dohuk. The research area is located at the foo…

Island incidence and mainland population density: Mammals from Mediterranean islands

2002

. The reasons why some species are resistant to extinction or are better invaders of islands than others remain unexplained. In this study, we test the hypothesis that mammals living on the mainland at higher density than predicted by the density/body mass relationship have a much greater chance to colonize a small island successfully, and/or that they are less likely to become extinct when living on small islands. For this, we used data compiled on mammals from a number of Mediterranean islands. We show a nested pattern for mammals on western Mediterranean islands, which suggests that the distribution of mammals on these islands is not the result of a random process. Using two comparative …

Real-Time Temporal Superpixels for Unsupervised Remote Photoplethysmography

2018

International audience; Segmentation is a critical step for many computer vision applications. Among them, the remote photoplethys-mography technique is significantly impacted by the quality of region of interest segmentation. With the heart-rate estimation accuracy, the processing time is obviously a key issue for real-time monitoring. Recent face detection algorithms can perform real-time processing, however for unsupervised algorithms, i.e. without any subject detection based on supervised learning, existing methods are not able to achieve real-time on regular platform. In this paper, we propose a new method to perform real-time un-supervised remote photoplethysmograhy based on efficient…

A relevance feedback CBIR algorithm based on fuzzy sets

2008

CBIR (content-based image retrieval) systems attempt to allow users to perform searches in large picture repositories. In most existing CBIR systems, images are represented by vectors of low level features. Searches in these systems are usually based on distance measurements defined in terms of weighted combinations of the low level features. This paper presents a novel approach to combining features when using multi-image queries consisting of positive and negative selections. A fuzzy set is defined so that the degree of membership of each image in the repository to this fuzzy set is related to the user's interest in that image. Positive and negative selections are then used to determine t…
