The Rolf Method of Structural Integration and Pelvic Floor Muscle Facilitation: Preliminary Results of a Randomized, Interventional Study
2020
The management of pelvic floor dysfunctions might need to be based on a comprehensive neuro-musculoskeletal therapy such as The Rolf Method of Structural Integration (SI). The aim of the study was to evaluate the pelvic floor muscle (PFM) after the tenth session of SI by using surface electromyography (sEMG). This was a randomized, interventional study. Thirty-three healthy women were randomly assigned to the experimental (SI) or control group. The outcome measures included PFM bioelectrical activity, assessed using sEMG and endovaginal probes. An intervention in the SI group included 60 min of SI once a week, and teaching on how to contract and relax PFMs
Beurteilung der Durchgängigkeit von koronaren Bypassgefäßen mit einer 2D T2-gewichteten Turbo-Spin-Echo-Sequenz (HASTE) in Atemanhaltetechnik
1999
AIM To evaluate the patency of coronary artery bypass grafts with a 2D T2-weighted breath-hold turbo-spin-echo sequence. METHODS 38 patients with 97 grafts (19 internal mammary artery and 78 saphenous vein grafts) and a total of 120 distal anastomoses were studied at 1.5 Tesla in supine position using a phased array body coil. An ECG gated 2D T2-weighted breath-hold turbo-spin-echo sequence (HASTE) was performed. Reference method was selective coronary angiography. The image material was evaluated independently by two radiologists (observer one, a radiological fellow and the second a staff radiologist). RESULTS Observer 1 reached a sensitivity of 96% (72/75) and a specificity of 91% (20/22)…
Consideraciones preoperatorias y manejo neuroanestesiológico intraoperatorio
2012
The anesthesiological management of patients undergoing neurosurgery of the posterior fossa has a series of characteristics that should be known by anesthesiologists. Intraoperative management is guided by a series of factors that include the physiopathological changes secondary to the patient's position during surgery, the importance of appropriate patient positioning to facilitate the surgical approach, the lower tolerance to changes in the elastance of the infratentorial region, the limited therapeutic options in episodes of intraoperative edema-swelling, and the presence of complications such as a venous air embolism. This first contribution to the guidelines discusses the main evidence…
Dual channel photoplethysmography studies of cardio-vascular response to the body position changes
2005
The dual-channel photoplethysmography studies of physiological responses during 3-stage orthostatic test were performed. Clear differences in heartbeat rate, pulse wave transit time and blood pressure variations of healthy volunteers and diabetic patients have been observed.
Directly Observed Physical Activity and Fundamental Motor Skills in Four-Year-Old Children in Day Care
2016
Physical activity (PA), its location, social interactions and fundamental motor skills (FMS) were investigated in four-year-old Finnish children in day care. Six skills in the stability, locomotor and manipulative domains were assessed in 53 children (24 boys, 29 girls, normal anthropometry) with the APM-Inventory manual for assessing children’s perceptual and FMS and Total Motor Scores (TMS; 0–6 points) calculated. PA intensity, location, group composition and activity type − sitting, squatting, kneeling − were directly observed with a modified version of the Observational System for Recording Physical Activity in Children – Preschool Version (OSRAC – P) during three consecutive days in 14…
EMAS position statement: Predictors of premature and early natural menopause.
2019
Simoncini, Tommaso/0000-0002-2971-0079; Chung, Hsin-Fang/0000-0003-3261-5942; Mishra, Gita/0000-0001-9610-5904 WOS:000468709100014 PubMed ID: 31027683 Introduction: While the associations of genetic, reproductive and environmental factors with the timing of natural menopause have been extensively investigated, few epidemiological studies have specifically examined their association with premature (< 40 years) or early natural menopause (40-45 years). Aim: The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence on the predictors of premature and early natural menopause, as well as recommendations for the management of premature and early menopause and future research. Materials and methods…
Tribe Acalyptaini (Hemiptera: Tingidae: Tinginae) Revisited: Can Apomorphies in Secondary and Tertiary Structures of 18S rRNA Length-Variable Regions…
2023
The lace bug tribe Acalyptaini (Tingidae: Tinginae) includes five genera, Acalypta, Derephysia, Dictyonota, Kalama, and Recaredus, and it was recently resurrected based on morphological and karyological characters. We aimed to validate the distinctiveness of this tribe using 18S rDNA sequences, which have not been used in previous Tingidae phylogenomic studies. Our results confirmed the monophyly of the tribe. Moreover, the monophyly of the subfamily Cantacaderinae and its basal position within the family Tingidae were indicated, as well as the position of the tribe Litadeini as sister to all other Tinginae. In addition, we attempted to determine the apomorphic morpho-molecular characters i…
Musculoskeletal Pain in Gymnasts: A Retrospective Analysis on a Cohort of Professional Athletes
2021
Gymnastics athletes are exposed to a high risk of injury, but also of developing musculoskeletal pain. These data are still little investigated in the available scientific literature. An online survey was distributed to 79 professional athletes who practiced artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. The survey collected demographic and anthropometric data, information about the sport practice, the training sessions, the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain gymnastics-related, and lifestyle habits. Musculoskeletal pain had a high prevalence, involving 65 of 79 athletes (82.3%). A significant correlation was found between musculoskeletal pain and the duration of sports practice, both for general pain (…
Iliosacral Screw Osteosynthesis
2017
Fragility fractures of the anterior pelvic ring are very often combined with fractures of the posterior pelvic ring. The large majority of the posterior fractures is situated in the sacral ala. Non-operative therapy may be cumbersome in patients with a combination of an anterior with a posterior pelvic ring fracture. Any surgical therapy should be as less invasive as possible. Iliosacral screw fixation is a minimal invasive technique. Variations of the upper sacral anatomy make optimal iliosacral screw placement challenging. The vestibule or isthmus is the narrowest part of the bony corridor from the lateral ilium to the S1 sacral body. It always points towards anterior and superior. The wh…
