EHeBby: An evocative humorist chat-bot
2008
A conversational agent, capable to have a "sense of humor" is presented. The agent can both generate humorous sentences and recognize humoristic expressions introduced by the user during the dialogue. EHeBby is an entertainment oriented conversational agent implemented using the ALICE framework embedded into an Yahoo! Messenger client. It is characterized by two areas: a rational, rule-based area and an evocative area. The first one is based on well founded techniques of computational humor and a standard AIML KB. The second one is based on a conceptual space, automatically induced by a corpus of funny documents, where KB items and user sentences are mapped. This area emulates an associativ…
Remote heart rate variability for emotional state monitoring
2018
International audience; Several researches have been conducted to recognize emotions using various modalities such as facial expressions , gestures, speech or physiological signals. Among all these modalities, physiological signals are especially interesting because they are mainly controlled by the autonomic nervous system. It has been shown for example that there is an undeniable relationship between emotional state and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). In this paper, we present a methodology to monitor emotional state from physiological signals acquired remotely. The method is based on a remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) algorithm that estimates remote Heart Rate Variability (rHRV) using a …
Video-based Pain Level Assessment: Feature Selection and Inter-Subject Variability Modeling
2018
Automatic pain level assessment, based on video features, may provide clinically-relevant, objective measures of pain intensity. In various clinical contexts accurate pain level estimation by health care personnel is challenging. This problem is compounded by considerable inter- and intra-individual variability of both perceived pain levels and of the associated facial expressions, especially at low pain levels. Thus, providing objective video-based indices for pain level assessment is a rather computationally challenging problem. In the present work both geometric and color-based features were extracted. The most informative features were identified with lasso regression, and subject varia…
Towards Psychologically based Personalised Modelling of Emotions Using Associative Classifiers
2016
Learning environments, among other user-centred applications, are excellent candidates to trial Computational Emotions and their algorithms to enhance user experience and to expand the system usability. However, this was not feasible because of the paucity in affordable consumer technologies that support the requirements of systems with advanced cognitive capabilities. Microsoft Kinect provides an accessible and affordable technology that can enable cognitive features such as facial expressions extraction and emotions detection. However, it comes with its own additional challenges, such as the limited number of extracted Animation Units (AUs). This paper presents a new approach that attempt…
Using the factorial experiment method to analyze the corrosion protection process
2017
The organization functions are: research-development, production, commercial, financial-accounting, personnel and quality. In this paper the factorial experimental method will be applied, which is currently one of the most widespread methods used in the research-development departments of the organizations, due to its advantages and efficiency. The experiment was carried out at SC Coifer Impex SRL-Mirsa’s metal structures factory. In this paper it is presented the factors modelling that exerts their influence on two objectives functions: the ensuring the nominal thickness of the rough-cast film and the consumption limiting. For data processing the STATISTICA 7 software was used which provid…
multimodal and multi-criteria analysis for the expertise and locating faults in modern electrical components
2017
The purpose of this manuscript is to exhibit the research work solving the issue of data processing stem from defect localization techniques. This step being decisive in the failure analysis process, scientists have to harness data coming from light emission and laser techniques. Nevertheless, this analysis process is sequential and only depends on the expert’s decision. This factor leads to a not quantified probability of localization. Consequently to solve these issues, a multimodaland multicriteria analysis has been developped, taking advantage of the heterogeneous and complementary nature of light emission and laser probing techniques. This kind of process is based on advanced level too…

General Principles for the Detection of Modified Nucleotides in RNA by Specific Reagents.
2021
Epitranscriptomics heavily rely on chemical reagents for the detection, quantification, and localization of modified nucleotides in transcriptomes. Recent years have seen a surge in mapping methods that use innovative and rediscovered organic chemistry in high throughput approaches. While this has brought about a leap of progress in this young field, it has also become clear that the different chemistries feature variegated specificity and selectivity. The associated error rates, e.g., in terms of false positives and false negatives, are in large part inherent to the chemistry employed. This means that even assuming technically perfect execution, the interpretation of mapping results issuin…
Histone post-translational modifications as potential therapeutic targets for pain management
2021
Effective pharmacological management of pain associated with tissue pathology is an unmet medical need. Transcriptional modifications in nociceptive pathways are pivotal for the development and the maintenance of pain associated with tissue damage. Accumulating evidence has shown the importance of the epigenetic control of transcription in nociceptive pathways via histone post-translational modifications (PTMs). Hence, histone PTMs could be targets for novel effective analgesics. Here, we discuss the current understanding of histone PTMs in the modulation of gene expression affecting nociception and pain phenotypes following tissue injury. We also provide a critical view of the translationa…
Phenotypic analysis of adults and eggs of Fasciola hepatica by computer image analysis system
2005
AbstractKnowledge of the morphological phenotypes of the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica (Trematoda: Digenea) is analysed. The influence of parasite age on its dimensions, the adult fluke growth model, variation in a biometric variable versus time, and variation in a biometric variable versus another biometric variable (allometric model) are revised. The most useful allometric model appears to be (y2m]#x2212;y2)/y2=c [(y1m−y1)/y1]b, where y1=body area or body length, y2=one of the measurements analysed, y1m, y2m=maximum values towards which y1 and y2, respectively, tend, and c, b=constants. A method based on material standardization, the measurement proposal and allometric analysis is detaile…
