Using robotics construction kits as metacognitive tools: A research in an italian primary school

The present paper is aimed at analyzing the process of building and programming robots as a metacognitive tool. Quantitative data and qualitative observations from a research performed in a sample of children attending an Italian primary school are described in this work. Results showed that robotics activities may be intended as a new metacognitive environment that allows children to monitor themselves and control their learning actions in an autonomous and self-centered way.

Negli anni a cavallo tra le due guerre si assiste a una vera e propria scomparsa della psicologia accademica in Italia che invece, tra la fine dell’Ottocento e gli inizi del Novecento aveva realizzato laboratori di ricerca di alto livello. Gli unici Atenei in cui sono ancora attive cattedre di psicologia sono l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore con Padre Agostino Gemelli e l’Università di Roma La Sapienza con Mario Ponzo. La situazione è ancora più drammatica a Palermo, dove l’insegnamento di Psicologia sperimentale, attivo presso la Facoltà di Lettere, viene cancellato nel 1927.

The main aim of our study is to investigate the role of motivations and mind-reading in a two-level one-shot Ultimatum Game with three players. Our intention is to analyse subjects’ behaviour in both the responder and proposer roles. In the responder role, we found that the difference between the subjects’ expectations and the actual offers was the major factor that influenced their decisions and motivations in receiving money. In the attempt to identify the conditions favoring this experience, some studies took into account personality traits.
