Localized charge storage in nanocrystal memories: Feasibility of a multi-bit cell

2004

We have realized Si nanocrystal memory cells in which the Si dots have been deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on the tunnel oxide and then covered by a CVD control oxide. In this paper we report a study on the potential of this type of cells for multi-bit storage. In particular, the possibilities offered by these devices from the point of view of program/erase mechanisms, endurance, and charge retention are shown and discussed.

Quality of life following urinary diversion: Orthotopic ileal neobladder versus ileal conduit. A multicentre study among long-term, female bladder ca…

2019

Abstract Introduction Women undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) followed by urinary diversion (UD) for bladder cancer experience a substantial reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQOL). At present, studies comparing long-term QOL outcomes for different UD methods, needed to inform evidence-based choices of bladder reconstruction for female patients, are sparse. Our objective was to compare two common UD methods in terms of their HRQOL outcomes in women. Materials and methods We retrospectively analysed HRQOL in 73 consecutive female bladder cancer patients having undergone orthotopic ileal neobladder (IONB, N = 24) or ileal conduit (IC, N = 49) following RC between 2007 and 2013 in…

Free-depths reconstruction with synthetic impulse response in integral imaging

2015

Integral Imaging provides spatial and angular information of three-dimensional (3D) objects, which can be used both for 3D display and for computational post-processing purposes. In order to recover the depth information from an integral image, several algorithms have been developed. In this paper, we propose a new free depth synthesis and reconstruction method based on the two-dimensional (2D) deconvolution between the integral image and a simplified version of the periodic impulse response function (IRF) of the system. The period of the IRF depends directly on the axial position within the object space. Then, we can retrieve the depth information by performing the deconvolution with compu…

A Study on the Correlations between Machining Parameters and Specimen Quality in WEDM

1999

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is widely used in manufacturing, medical, aircraft applications and, virtually, all areas of conductive material machining. The process involves a series of very complex electrical, thermodynamical and electromagnetical phenomena that are still partially unknown. Due to the large amount of parameters involved in the process, a suitable set-up of the variables aimed to obtain the best performance is often very difficult. In the paper the results of a wide experimental analysis are presented: the tests were carried out on high-speed steel and tempered steel specimens utilising brass wires. The influence of the most important process parameters on the…

Angiocardiographic digital still images compressed via irreversible methods: concepts and experiments.

1997

Abstract We defined, implemented and tested two new methods for irreversible compression of angiocardiographic still images: brightness error limitation (BEL) and pseudo-gradient adaptive brightness and contrast error limitation (PABCEL). The scan path used to compress the digital images is based on the Peano–Hilbert plane-filling curve. The compression methods limit, for each pixel, the brightness errors introduced when approximating the original image (i.e. the difference between the values of corresponding pixels as grey levels). Additional limitations are imposed to the contrast error observed when considering along the scan path consecutive pixels of both the original and the reconstru…

Three-Dimensional Calibration for Routine Analyses of Bromide and Nitrate Ions as Indicators of Groundwater Quality in Coastal Territories

2019

Nitrate and bromide ions are generally considered indicators of anthropogenic pollution and seawater intrusion, respectively, in the groundwater of coastal territories. The analysis of these species is generally carried out with routine chromatographic analyses which generally afford partially merged or poorly resolved peaks. In the present paper a simple method for the correct evaluation of their concentration in water is reported. This method does not imply utilization of other instruments or technologies, only the mathematical elaboration of the data obtained from routine analysis of standard solutions containing the two species. Standard binary solutions of nitrate and bromide ions at d…

Differences in the efficacy and safety among inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)/long-acting beta2-agonists (LABA) combinations in the treatment of chronic…

2015

Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are frequently recommended for the treatment of asthma and COPD, often in combination with long-acting beta2-agonists (LABA), depending on the severity of the disease and/or on the specific phenotype. Several ICS/LABA combinations are currently available that differ in their pharmacokinetic characteristics and dose of both components. Thus, this review assesses differences in the efficacy and the safety profiles of the ICS components in the two more frequently used ICS/LABA combinations (budesonide/formoterol and fluticasone/salmeterol) for the management of COPD. Whereas the basic mechanism of action is similar for all ICS (binding with the intracellular gluco…

Seismic vulnerability of structures and infrastructures: Strategies for assessment and mitigation

2017

Seismic engineering is constantly looking for new strategies and methods that provide designers with the opportunity to get more and more efficient solutions both from the performance and from the economic point of view. In this context, the scientific community is called not to miss its support and to face the new challenges coming from the observation of the damage caused by the recent earthquakes. This Special Issue of “Ingegneria Sismica” collects some works focusing the theme of the seismic vulnerability, some of them specifically refer to mitigation strategies while others address modeling strategies. Obviously, for the multiplicity of aspects involving the theme of "seismic vulnerabi…

Investigating energy saving potential in a big shopping center through ventilation control

2019

Abstract This paper investigates energy saving measures for the ventilation system of large shopping centers. This kind of buildings is characterized by high yearly energy consumptions, because of the high level of operating hours and the frequent use of obsolete technologies. In the analyzed case studies, three big Do It Yourself (DIY) shops, located in Italy, are considered. Two different approaches are considered, they are aimed at reducing the annual energy consumption for the indoor air exchange of the sales area. The first considered retrofit solution consists in the installation of heat recovery exchangers, reducing the energy demand for the air thermal treatment without changing the…
