Diagnostyka sądowo-kryminalna w orzekaniu i wykonywaniu warunkowego przedterminowego zwolnienia w teorii i praktyce sądowej – raport z badania
2019
Niniejsza praca stanowi podsumowanie projektu badawczego Diagnostyka sądowo-kryminalna w orzekaniu i wykonywaniu warunkowego przedterminowego zwolnienia w teorii i praktyce sądowej, zrealizowanego przez Instytut Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości.
Testing standard and nonstandard neutrino physics with cosmological data
2012
Cosmological constraints on the sum of neutrino masses and on the effective number of neutrino species in standard and nonstandard scenarios are computed using the most recent available cosmological data. Our cosmological data sets include the measurement of the baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) feature in the data release 9 CMASS sample of the baryon oscillation spectroscopic survey. We study in detail the different degeneracies among the parameters, as well as the impact of the different data sets used in the analyses. When considering bounds on the sum of the three active neutrino masses, the information in the BAO signal from galaxy clustering measurements is approximately equally pow…
Acetylcholine via Muscarinic Receptors Inhibits Histamine Release from Human Isolated Bronchi
1997
Human bronchi were incubated in organ baths to measure histamine release. The calcium ionophore A23187 (10 mumol/L; 1 min) stimulated histamine release by 148 +/- 28% (n = 11) above the prestimulation level but was ineffective in epithelium-denuded bronchi. Neither bradykinin (0.1 mumol/L) nor compound 48/80 (10 micrograms/ml) triggered the release of histamine from epithelium-intact bronchi. Acetylcholine did not affect spontaneous histamine release (about 2 nmol/g x 5 min) but inhibited A23187-evoked histamine release in an atropine-sensitive manner. Already a concentration as low as 0.1 nmol/L acetylcholine was effective, the maximal inhibition (by 89%) occurred at 100 nmol/L, whereas a …
Performance of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus for detection of latent tuberculosis infection in pregnant women living in a tuberculosis- and HIV-endemic se…
2017
We evaluated the performance of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus), which includes two Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen formulations (TB1 and TB2), for detection of latent tuberculosis infection during pregnancy. Eight-hundred-twenty-nine Ethiopian pregnant women (5.9% HIV-positive) were tested with QFT-Plus, with bacteriological sputum analysis performed for women with clinically suspected tuberculosis and HIV-positive women irrespective of clinical presentation. QFT-Plus read-out was categorized according to the conventional cut-off (0.35 IU/ml) for both antigen formulations. In addition, we analysed the distribution of QFT-Plus results within a borderline zone (0.20–0.70 IU/ml), and i…
Positional transversal release is effective as stretching on range of movement, performance and balance: a cross-over study.
2022
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to compare the positional transversal release (PTR) technique to stretching and evaluate the acute effects on range of movement (ROM), performance and balance. Methods Thirty-two healthy individuals (25.3 ± 5.6 years; 68.8 ± 12.5 kg; 172.0 ± 8.8 cm) were tested on four occasions 1 week apart. ROM through a passive straight leg raise, jumping performance through a standing long jump (SLJ) and balance through the Y-balance test were measured. Each measure was assessed before (T0), immediately after (T1) and after 15 min (T2) of the provided intervention. On the first occasion, no intervention was administered (CG). The intervention order was rando…
MODELLING USER UNCERTAINTY FOR DISCLOSURE RISK AND DATA UTILITY
2002
In this paper we show how a simple model that captures user uncertainty can be used to define suitable measures of disclosure risk and data utility. The model generalizes previous results of Duncan and Lambert.1 We present several examples to illustrate how the new measures can be used to implement existing optimality criteria for the choice of the best form of data release.
Magma Degassing at Piton de la Fournaise Volcano
2015
Since about 1860 AD, magmatic gas release at Piton de la Fournaise volcano is very weak during intra-eruptive phases and essentially occurs during the relatively short-lived eruptions. Recent gas measurements performed during an eruption in October 2010, combined with detailed review of melt and fluid inclusion composition in magmas erupted over the past 50 kyrs, indicate that most PdF eruptions extrude magmas having variably degassed at shallow depth (P 1 kbar) and the shallow magmas, whose fluids are efficiently scrubbed by the hydrothermal system and the water table. Quantification of SO2 fluxes permits to track syn-eruptive magma ascent at shallow level (above sea level). Deeper exsolut…
Essential versus accessory aspects of cell death: recommendations of the NCCD 2015
2015
Cells exposed to extreme physicochemical or mechanical stimuli die in an uncontrollable manner, as a result of their immediate structural breakdown. Such an unavoidable variant of cellular demise is generally referred to as ?accidental cell death' (ACD). In most settings, however, cell death is initiated by a genetically encoded apparatus, correlating with the fact that its course can be altered by pharmacologic or genetic interventions. "Regulated cell death" (RCD) can occur as part of physiologic programs or can be activated once adaptive responses to perturbations of the extracellular or intracellular microenvironment fail. The biochemical phenomena that accompany RCD may be harnessed to…
Development of controlled release systems of biocides for the conservation of cultural heritage
2017
Abstract The presence of microorganisms is one of the main causes of monument deterioration. Biocides are usually applied after or before restoration in order to prevent or slow down microbial growth. Frequent applications are necessary leading to increased costs and high risks to humans and the environment. The aim of this study is the design of novel controlled release systems comprising a biocide loaded into a mesoporous silica. Pristine MCM41 as well as MCM41 functionalised with carboxy- (MCM41-COOH) and amino-groups (MCM41-NH2) were used. Biotin T and New Des 50, two commercial formulations, were chosen as biocides. The biocide encapsulation was performed adding the mesoporous silica t…
PLA graphene nanoplatelets nanocomposites: Physical properties and release kinetics of an antimicrobial agent
2017
Abstract Graphene nanoplatelets (GnP) as filler and ciprofloxacin (CFX) as biocide were incorporated via melt-compounding into poly(lactic acid) (PLA) to obtain biopolymer-based nanocomposites with antimicrobial properties. GnP were added with the aim of improving the mechanical properties of the antimicrobial system and tuning the drug release. The obtained systems were mechanically characterized in tensile mode by quasi-static and dynamic mechanical tests. Furthermore, rheological measurements were performed. The morphology of the samples was analyzed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Moreover, a mathematical model, i.e. power law model, was used to fit the release data in order…
