Urachal Signet-ring Cell Carcinoma, A Rare Variant of Vesical Adenocarcinoma: Incidence And Pathologicalcriteria
1978
Abstract Of 715 cases of vesical tumors reviewed 18 adenocarcinomas were selected for further study, 5 of which fulfilled all criteria of urachal origin. Herein is reported 1 rare case of such a carcinoma of the signet-ring cell type and the morphological criteria of this variant are discussed briefly. After undergoing radical cystectomy and ureterosigmoidostomy the patient has been free of recurrent tumor or metastasis for 6 years.
Do We Need a Separate Classification for Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis?
2019
Fragility fractures of the pelvis are occurring with increasing frequency. These fractures, occurring in the geriatric patient population, are low-energy injuries and are dissimilar in many ways from those caused by high-energy trauma. For example, the mechanism of injury is different and emergency treatment is usually not necessary. Having diminished bone strength, fragility fracture lines follow areas of low bone mineral density and loss of pelvic stability may increase over time. Based on our clinical experience, we propose a comprehensive classification of pelvic fragility fractures separate from the existing pelvic ring injury classification to provide a framework for distinguishing th…

Controlled Iontophoretic Delivery in Vitro and in Vivo of ARN14140—A Multitarget Compound for Alzheimer’s Disease
2019
ARN14140 is a galantamine-memantine conjugate that acts upon both cholinergic and glutamatergic pathways for better management of Alzheimer's disease. Poor oral bioavailability and pharmacokinetics meant that earlier preclinical in vivo studies employed intracerebroventricular injection to administer ARN14140 directly to the brain. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of using constant current transdermal iontophoresis for the noninvasive systemic delivery of ARN14140 and to quantify the amounts present in the blood and the brain. Preliminary experiments in vitro were performed using porcine skin and validated with human skin. Cumulative ARN14140 permeation across th…
Immediate effect of the MitraClip procedure on mitral ring geometry in primary and secondary mitral regurgitation.
2013
Percutaneous treatment of mitral regurgitation (MR) has been shown to reduce MR severity and improve functional outcomes. Surgical treatment of MR usually includes mitral annulus reduction. The influence of the MitraClip w on annulus geometry is not clear. We wanted to investigate whether the procedure itself reduces annulus diameter and if there may be differences between secondary or functional (SMR) and primary (PMR) MR. Methods and results We retrospectively assessed 3D echocardiography (3D-TEE) data of 55 patients acquired during the procedure shortly before and after clip placement for changes in annulus diameter and area. Measurements were done with QLAB software. Patients were categ…
Effect of a closed foldable equator ring on capsular bag shrinkage in cataract surgery.
2005
To evaluate the effect of a closed foldable equator ring (CFER) versus a conventional capsular tension ring (CTR) on capsular bag shrinkage.Department of Ophthalmology, Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany. In this prospective study, 70 eyes of 70 patients were randomized to 2 groups using a 1:1 block scheme. After uneventful cataract surgery, a capsular measuring ring was implanted in all eyes to measure the capsular bag diameter in vivo. In Group 1, a CTR was implanted in the capsular bag. In Group 2, a CFER was inserted. Biometric characteristics such as axial length and the horizontal and vertical corneal radii were measured preoperatively. The capsular bag diameter and capsulor…
Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis.
2017
Fragility fractures of the pelvic ring (FFP) show an increasing frequency. Trauma mechanism, fracture morphology and degree of instability are different from those in high-energy pelvic ring lesions. Little is known about the optimal treatment strategy. A new comprehensive classification system with four categories of increasing instability is presented. It is connected with recommendations for type and invasiveness of treatment. FFP Type I are anterior instabilities only and can be treated conservatively. FFP Type II are non-displaced posterior lesions which can be treated conservatively or with percutaneous fixation. FFP Type III lesions are unilateral displaced posterior lesions which re…
Methane line parameters in the HITRAN2012 database
2013
International audience; The compilation of methane molecular line parameters was updated to include new global analyses and measurements for 12CH4, 13CH4 and 12CH3D. Over 70% of the methane parameters in HITRAN2008 were replaced; existing parameters retained were the microwave lines and the Dyad of 13CH4 near 7 μm and ν6 of 13CH3D near 8.7 μm, 12CH3D (7-4076 cm-1), hot bands of 12CH4 (1887-3370 cm-1) and normal sample CH4 (4800-5550 cm-1 and 8000-9200 cm-1). With a minimum intensity at 296 K in units of cm-1/(molecule cm-2) set to 10-37 for the far-IR and 10-29 for the mid- and near-IR, the methane database increased from 290,091 lines in HITRAN2008 to 468,013 lines, and three-fourths of th…
Perylenetetracarboxylic anhydride as a precursor of fluorescent carbon nanoonion rings
2015
[EN] Thermal annealing at 400 degrees C of perylenetetracarboxylic anhydride in low molecular mass PEG gives rise to the formation of well defined nanoobjects of 2.5 nm height and size distribution from 10 to 65 nm (average 40 nm) after purification of the raw mixture with silicagel chromatography. TEM reveals that the flat nanoobjects are constituted of concentric graphenic rings (0.34 nm interlayer distance). The morphology of the nanoparticles resembles onion rings of nanometric dimensions (nanoonion rings C-NOR). C-NOR particles have an excitation dependent emission with lambda(em) from 430 to 570 nm and a maximum emission quantum yield of 0.49. C-NOR particles can be internalized into …
Influence of the simultaneous calibration of multiple ring dosimeters on the individual absorbed dose
2021
Abstract Ring dosimeters for personal dosimetry are calibrated in accredited laboratories following ISO 4037-3 guidelines. The simultaneous irradiation of multiple dosimeters would save time, but has to be carefully studied, since the scattering conditions could change and influence the absorbed dose in nearby dosimeters. Monte Carlo simulations using PENELOPE-2014 were performed to explore the need to increase the uncertainty of H p 0 .07 in the simultaneous irradiation of three and five DXT-RAD 707H-2 (Thermo Scientific) ring dosimeters with beam qualities: N-30, N-80 and N-300. Results show that the absorbed dose in each dosimeter is compatible with each of the others and with the refere…
