Clinical utility of HFABP in myocardial infarction

2018

Assessing chest pain patients presenting to the emergency area (EA) is still a clinical challenge, as acute myocardial infarction (AMI) diagnosis is not adjudicated in the majority of patients. New generation high sensitivity troponin assays (hs-cTn) still present some limitations, thus, novel biomarkers to early rule-in and rule- out myocardial infarction in chest pain patients presenting to the EA are sought after. Among all, heart- type fatty acid binding protein (h-FABP) has been largely investigated. Studies performed on HFABP in these patients present marked heterogeneity. However, it can be stated that HFABP is clearly not a reliable marker for AMI diagnosis, neither as a stand-alone…

An Overview on Italian Arithmetic after the Disquisitiones Arithmeticae

2007

Thedecades around 1800were not a period inwhich puremathematics in general, and number theory in particular, flourished in Italy, see [Bottazzini 1994]. It is significant in this respect that Joseph Louis Lagrange, whose birth and early studies took place in Torino, finally became a prominent representative of the Frenchmathematical school and that, decades later, Guglielmo Libri still spent most of his academic career in France. Thus, Gauss’s Disquisitiones Arithmeticae did not have an immediate resonance in Italian mathematical circles. Gianfrancesco Malfatti, a professor in Ferrara, already seventy years old at the time of the publication of theDisquisitiones Arithmeticae, was one of the…

A context-aware approach for long-term behavioural change detection and abnormality prediction in ambient assisted living

2015

This research aims to describe pattern recognition models for detecting behavioural and health-related changes in a patient who is monitored continuously in an assisted living environment. The early anticipation of anomalies can improve the rate of disease prevention. Here we present different learning techniques for predicting abnormalities and behavioural trends in various user contexts. In this paper we described a Hidden Markov Model based approach for detecting abnormalities in daily activities, a process of identifying irregularity in routine behaviours from statistical histories and an exponential smoothing technique to predict future changes in various vital signs. The outcomes of t…

A Hierarchical Detection and Response System to Enhance Security Against Lethal Cyber-Attacks in UAV Networks

2018

International audience; Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) networks have not yet received considerable research attention. Specifically, security issues are a major concern because such networks, which carry vital information, are prone to various attacks. In this paper, we design and implement a novel intrusion detection and response scheme, which operates at the UAV and ground station levels, to detect malicious anomalies that threaten the network. In this scheme, a set of detection and response techniques are proposed to monitor the UAV behaviors and categorize them into the appropriate list (normal, abnormal, suspect, and malicious) according to the detected cyber-attack. We focus on the m…

Predicting the Short-Term Exchange Rate Between United State Dollar and Czech Koruna Using Hilbert-Huang Transform and Fuzzy Logic

2017

In this paper, the combination of the Hilbert-Huang Transform, fuzzy logic and an embedding theorem is described to predict the short-term exchange rate from United States dollar to Czech Koruna. By Using the Hilbert-Huang Transform as an adaptive filter, the proposed method decreases the embedding dimension space from five (original samples) to four (de-noising samples). This dimension space provides the number of inputs to the fuzzy rule base system, which causes the number of rules, the time for training and the inference process to decrease. Experimental results indicated that this method achieves higher accuracy prediction than the direct use of original data.

Immigration Detention and Rule of Law in Italy

2013

Immigration detention challenges the principles of Rule of Law. Illustrating Italian law, case-law and legal practice on Administrative Detention, this research paper contributes to the discussion on common European guiding principles, called 'safeguarding principles' in the context of a funded research project led by researchers of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law

Predictive model to identify the risk of losing protective sensibility of the foot in patients with diabetes mellitus

2019

Diabetic neuropathy is defined as the presence of symptoms and signs of peripheral nerve dysfunction in diabetics. The aim of this study is to develop a predictive logistic model to identify the risk of losing protective sensitivity in the foot. This descriptive cross‐sectional study included 111 patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. Participants completed a questionnaire designed to evaluate neuropathic symptoms, and multivariate analysis was subsequently performed to identify an optimal predictive model. The explanatory capacity was evaluated by calculating the R (2) coefficient of Nagelkerke. Predictive capacity was evaluated by calculating sensitivity, specificity, and estimation o…

Predictive factors of severe multilobar pneumonia and shock in patients with influenza

2014

PurposeTo identify risk factors present at admission in adult patients hospitalised due to influenza virus infection during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons—including whether infection was from pandemic or seasonal influenza A infections—that were associated with the likelihood of developing severe pneumonia with multilobar involvement and shock.MethodsProspective cohort study. Patients hospitalised due to influenza virus infection were recruited. We collected information on sociodemographic characteristics, pre-existing medical conditions, vaccinations, toxic habits, previous medications, exposure to social environments, and EuroQoL-5D (EQ-5D). Clinically atypical spitzoid lesions: semi-quantitative histologic index correlation with dermoscopic scores (ABCD rule, 7-point checklist and patter…

2014

Background The distinction of Spitz and Reed nevi with atypical features from melanoma may be a difficult task. In these cases, the dermoscopic scores could bring variable results and not always correlate with the histologic diagnosis. Objective The aim of this study was to compare the histopathologic and dermoscopic findings in a cohort of clinically atypical Spitz and Reed nevi. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 19 cases of atypical Spitz and Reed nevi from our files. We constructed a new semi-quantitative histologic index (HI) based on the reproducible microscopic features, and correlated it with two dermoscopic scores: ABCD and 7-point checklist, as well as with the predominant dermos…

Identification of Subgroups of Women with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with Central Sensitization.

2016

Identification of subjects with different sensitization mechanisms can help to identify better therapeutic strategies for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The aim of the current study was to identify subgroups of women with CTS with different levels of sensitization.A total of 223 women with CTS were recruited. Self-reported variables included pain intensity, function, disability, and depression. Pressure pain thresholds (PPT) were assessed bilaterally over median, ulnar, and radial nerves, C5-C6 joint, carpal tunnel, and tibialis anterior to assess widespread pressure pain hyperalgesia. Heat (HPT) and cold (CPT) pain thresholds were also bilaterally assessed over the carpal tunnel and the the…
